John Wesley's 2007 Singlecut Trem with Prototype Piezo Pickup |

- While visiting the PRS factory in Maryland, John Wesley sat down to tell the story of his 2007 PRS Singlecut Trem. After joining progressive rock band Porcupine Tree, John needed a guitar that could cover a wide variety of tones and withstand the rigors of touring. When John contacted PRS in search of a piezo-equipped guitar, he wound up with potentially the first solid-body PRS to feature a piezo integrated tremolo system. Listen as John recounts how he came to own this guitar and shows how it helps shape his tone.

John Wesley's contribution to PT's live sound is legendary!
totally agree
This would be quite the production model. A PRS Red single cut w/ trem and piezo is an incredible combo.
PRS P22 is pretty close
This story hit me right in the feels. That PRS would step up to help John with a few guitars when he was at a low ebb then later double-down on that trust by setting him up with a prototype piezo bridge in a guitar built to his specs shows the character of the company, its people and the man that founded it.
I just love how the guitar has aged - true, legitimate roadworn - and how it's taken a lickin' and kept on tickin'
It's why I love my 2021 Zach Myers, why I have my eyes on a hollowbody 2 - except a solid body, single-cut with piezo might just edge out the hollowbody.
I think this is the first proper aged PRS I've seen so far. Looking forward to see more early 2000s PRSs coming up which are really beat up.
I have one. A 20th Anniversary Singlecut from 2005 that has been toured, gigged....very played. I banged the back the neck, which chipped the paint, so I peeled the rest off. Lots of little dings as well. Recently had new frets put on.
They don’t age like this normally, he had satin lacquer applied for his finish but regular production finishes were acrylic urethane and don’t age gracefully at all, they chip off. If there is one thing I hate about my PRS guitars, it’s the finish but I believe they use nitro lawyer currently which is definitely an improvement
@@vox1962 They definitely used to chip, I can attest to that!
Porcupine tree is love
I absolutely love hearing stories from musicians about their guitars.
Big fan of PRS and Porcupine Tree.
I love these videos where the artists talk about their PRS’. Cheers.
You, Paul and everyone else, that plays and builds these instruments inspired me to pick up guitar. Thank you.
I met him at Musicians Institute years ago when I was taking summer classes as a high schooler. He was a really cool guy.
I think he had that specific guitar at the time.
John is one of my favorite artists. I've been fortunate enough to see him live many times and his tone is always spot-on.
Thanks to PRS for supporting artists before they become known by the masses.
John's solo albums are wonderful.
Love it! PT are one of my favorite bands, and PRS are one of my favorite brands 😍 I have a P245 Wood Library SC and can confirm that the piezo/mag combination is truly phenomenal.
I'd love a PRS SC with piezo and a 26-27" scale with pattern thin neck. A piezo/mag blend on a baritone would be incredible!
Love hearing from Wes. Awesome.
Congratulations Paul you and your team answered the call every time all every time I am so amazed at you and all the people that work with you and for you who inform you God-bless each and every one of you I love my PRS SE24
Would love for PRS to bring back that 2000s black Cherry red finish on their new models
I saw John with PT during The Incident tour in Quebec City and his tone was absolutely killer. There is a perfection to PRS Guitars that free up an aspect of the creative process that make them indispensable in my workflow.
John Wesley is an amazing performer.
I feel the light finish, the colour and those crazy flames definitely help it sounding awesome 😂😍😍
PT's "My ashes" live featuring John Wesley ❤
A petition to have prs make a mainline model of a singlecut guitar with a piezo and a whammy bar on the body.
Personally I would love 2x volume x2 tone with coil splits and out of phase with 24 frets instead of 22.
Most versatile guitar PRS would have on the market.
Love seeing the real wear. This #1 may be even more played-in than Tremonti’s “Dime”. 🤘🏼
This was an awesome interview! It’s so interesting to see how the guitar has worn in over time and how well it has held up. Also Porcupine Tree slaps 🎸🔥
Beautiful. I've been wishing for something like that! And I have been playing a PRS for a few years now. 😊✨🕺 Congrats, Wes!
Its aged so well!
Nice to see two videos on John. Great player.
love that guitar it sounds unreal, love the trem system with the piezo. and those pups sound sweet as ..
Five Watt World just released a video of the history of PRS bolt on neck guitars, and now this.
It's a good day for PRS fanatics.
1. So good to see PRS without neck binding..
2. We should see guitars like that in the core line up.
1. What are you talking about? Most PRSs don't have neck binding.
2. Agree that it is a cool guitar.
😎👍💗🇺🇸🎸 LONG LIVE PRS!!!
Relic free since 1985!
Hey John, I hope your touring with Porcupine Tree in 2022!
Prs shoegazing @5:25 amazing
5:08 absolutely LOVE that sound
A wonderful story. Thanks for posting!
Wow! Thanks for sharing!
ok this just sold me on singlecut
Got a 245 SC of 2001 and it's a superb guitar ...I always dreamt about having it with a trem and this one with trem and a piezo would be a magic combo considering that I had to buy also a P22 for the piezo :-)
Hi Wes!!
Love this video series!
Incredible!!!
Damn I love how beat up it is. Imagine PRS doing Heavy Relics….
This is pretty cool… But I believe the first solid body Piezo equipped PRS would be Alex Lifeson’s red CE that appeared sometime around 1996. I think even Paul has said so.
PT is a great band
Shiver's a really good album.
I often think about a signature model, if I ever had one. It'd definitely have a piezo
I've been asking for a Tremonti with a piezo since *forever!*
can we please see this model in the core line soon?
awesome!
Great story I had to sell my electric guitar to pay bills also so I feel his pain also and I'm still trying find away to get another electric guitar I miss playing so much.
Porcupine Tree!
Im a methodist and now I want a John Wesley guitar to play at church 😅
Oh yeah
Dream guitar! But I live in Brazil. :( Great story.
what's the closest production model with piezo to what he's got? The acoustic sound is great!
you can find some custom 22 piezo models up on reverb
S2 John Wesley model ?? please ?!?!
pee-eh-zo!
And where my PRS,,i love this guitar.i love all about PRS products, but i dont have one.sad
P245 would come close
I own both a P22 and an Alex Lifeson Piezo/Axcess Gibson.
Sorry PRS…I’ll always be a PRS guy, but Gibson did it right.
That 5th knob and switch looks amateurish.
PRS could easily do a Lifeson Singlecut piezo style, but instead they keep releasing yet another Custom 24
…leaving money on the table
