This lean business culture we are in is the worst thing to ever happen to the consumer - mainly for that aspect of it where businesses think it’s ok and are even encouraged to put products on to the market as quick as possible, and then “let the consumer drive the innovation.” But that’s not happening, is it? Why is it that Best Buy will have twenty or thirty different kinds of ear buds and every last one of them will be crap? Why is almost EVERYTHING we buy today flawed in design, or just built very crappily? Why are there companies who’s customer service lines will put you on hold for two hours? Because the consumer is NOT “driving innovation” as expected by the lean model. They are either ACCEPTING the mind-blowing amount of crap that companies sell us, or not getting through to the companies because they don’t wanna be on hold, or they are complaining to the company’s customer service reps who politeky pass you off, “we’ll certainly pass your concerns on” but they aren’t passed to anyone, and the companies just keep putting out more crap. I suppose that’s where the money is now. You can put products on the market faster and more cheaply, so that consumers time is wasted on a daily basis dealing with the first test run of product til they are pulling their hair out, and then you also make money selling them crap 2.0 and crap 2.1 as well. I suppose its a Godsend for the businesses, so that’s why they are trying to pass this off as being good for the consumer with all the yap yap like Washington State Government’s channel who don’t even let you comment on their videos, so they can praise the lean business model for something it clearly isn’t Naem,y, being good for the consumer. It is HELL for the consumer. Everyday I’m dealin* with someone’s crap whether its an ear bud design by some company at best buy that doesn’t even put their company name on the ear phones, where the hooks that go over your ears are just loosely attached so you lose them or ridiculously overpriced Apple Beats wireless headphones where the rubber on the ear hooks peel off and you get poked by the wire. Or maybe its something like youtube or facebook, who are constantly changing and tweaking their sites without user consent. I come from an age where you could come from a hard day’s work, and if you wanted to watch TV, you didn’t have to worry about the cable company coming into your house while you are gone and changing all the buttons on your remote so you have to figure out to use it every time you got used to the last unwarranted “update.” Businesses should get it right the first time, or not that be in that business. But when it comes to design, there are just standards anymore. Slop it together and throw it out to the consumer as fast as possible to make a quick profit, and “let the consumer drive innovation”, who apparently doesn’t even seem to care how badly we are getting screwed. I hate everything lean business has done to quality standards.
"lean thinking is fundamentally good, common sense." never have I taken any courses on LSS, but apply these principles nearly every day. makes me wonder how many companies are pushing for LSS belts for employees when common sense and a minimal amount of statistical analysis is required...
I work for a company that supposedly holds a AS9100, I was completely ignorant of this, so delved in, I took a ISO 9001 course, read books, then realized that this QMS, counted on knowing/using other tools, so now I am looking into LSS. So far I have come to the conclusion you have, it's just "plain good common sense" but I also, know why the company I work for is failing in many areas, they only did enough to pass the Audit, but really don't apply the QMS, in a way that will benefit the company and give a high quality service, this is why I wanted to learn, to see if I can "fix" this situation, It might all be futile, but at least I am learning this, and be prepared down the line. anyway I still have a way to go, but have started creating simple swim-line flowcharts, for a couple processes.
Lean six sigma is a concept from toyota & Motorola. Lean from toyota and six sigma from motorola. You can read that article in teknik-industri-rachman.blogspot.com/2020/10/pengertian-lean-six-sigma-penggabungan.html?m=1
Is anyone here can make me understand about number of near fatal plane crahses, why 99% good (3.8 sigma) is 6 per day and 99.9997% Good (6 sigma) is 1 per year ?
That's a great question! Sometimes, common sense isn't commonly understood. It's always helpful to hear someone else explain a concept using their own words - that way, we get to understand how others think, which helps make us better collaborators and better problem solvers. 🚀
It's funny how some people are complaining for the quality of a free but valuable content.
