      Very cute bunny. I use latex paint all the time. I do large projects for nonprofits so budget is important. I collect oops paint. I look for basic colors: whites, sky blue, grass green, etc for murals. But ado look for rich primary colors for mixing. I am making jungle scenery right now so I ended up mixing over 20 shades of green in various pint size containers for lots of foliage colors.
      I also collect oops paint in their top of the line paints which I use for adhering layers of styrofoam for my sculptures.
      Sample size jars can be mixed to any color desired.

      It sounds like you're quite an expert with latex paint! I've heard it can be difficult to get the right colors because every color is made of a combination of pigments, unlike acrylics when you can just buy 'cadmium' or 'ultramarine blue.' Do you have any suggestions for finding shades that are closest to primary colors, if one only had a few colors to work with?

    • @tlccreates
      @tlccreates 2 роки тому

      @@UltimatePaperMache there is a UA-camr MuralJoe, I think, who does wonderful murals with latex paint. He has a video about the primary colors of paint he gets to mix his colors. I haven’t needed to be that exacting so my general mixes have worked out. Most of my paints have been picked up as either oops paint or from yard sales. I am generally mixing similar colors so that I get a larger batch, or blues and yellows to get multiple shades of green. When I need to be exact I get the color made up in sample size or larger (for when a place has set defined color palette for the building)
      I’ve been working on the hippo. Printed the pattern at 2x size and made a lower jaw and a back for him. He needs to look like he is standing in a river. Install is in June, hope to get photos of him and all the other animals.

    • @UltimatePaperMache
      @UltimatePaperMache  2 роки тому

      @@alanm3438 A fish sounds like a great idea. I didn't know there was a program involved in the low-poly metal animals. I didn't actually watch the videos, I just looked at what they made. I assumed they bought papercraft patterns, maybe from etsy.com, and printed them bigger. For some reason it didn't occur to me that they were designing the sculptures themselves. As for programs, the free Blender program is good at making low-poly animals (but it's hard for me to learn) and the files are unfolded to make printable patterns by Pepakura. I bought it years ago to make my wall elephant pattern, so maybe it's more expensive now. Everything seems to be going up... :(

    • @alanm3438
      @alanm3438 2 роки тому

      @@UltimatePaperMache
      I was just in etsy looking at the programs. Those are a little more affordable. There are the paper PDF files that I could buy. Those are cheap. What could do is buy one of those, redraw the parts in CAD and then resize them to the size that I want. There are a lot of parts and it would take a lot of time. Since I do not have a job, I do have time. I did a poly paper once, the bear. It was interesting to make and then I covered it with your paper clay. Thanks for your kind heart and for thinking of me. The snow is just about gone here.

    I’d truly enjoy a latex paint mix video-great idea (TBH learning so much more from videos now than any college art class). I have noticed latex house paint has a more even, smooth coverage. This could be a great way to use up old paint in the basement. The paint stores sell return colors cheap too. You asked about video length-I’ll tune into both the short quick projects and the more involved.

    Jonni, the bunny is so cute and sure seemed simple to make. I aim to give your paper cache projects a try one day. Just need to make the time. I agree, pink would be nice for the inside of the ears.
    On the latex paint. One of my favorite artists on the Daily Paintworks site is Teddi Parker. Her work is wonderfully fun, fresh and colorful. Most of her work is done using acrylic latex exterior house paint she gets at the hardware store. She has small sample batches made up in a typical range of hues using colors she chooses from the swatches they have. She augments with artists acrylics if she needs a "color boost". If you see her work it more than justifies using house paint for art.
    Another of my favorite artists is Jessie! I love her work so much. In fact she is my very favorite artist at this time. So I sure would love to see her do a color mixing video. In fact she has a color workshop coming up this summer that I would have loved to take but I'll be finalizing the sale of my house and moving to a new place at just the same time. So if she's able to do a video here on your channel that would be a treasure.
    Thanks for all you do Jonni to help us have fun and be creative!

      @UltimatePaperMache  2 роки тому

      Thanks, Terry - I'll go check out that artist. Someone asked me if the house paint would last as well as artists' acrylics, and I think you just answered that question! Jessie has said she'll try to put something together for us. And I'm sure she'll have more workshops if she can find students - she loves to teach. Good luck with your move! 😊

      I used it in my bathroom, and it was very good. I think I've also used their primer on a paper mache sculpture, but I can't remember which one. I like using latex primer instead of gesso, because it's so much less expensive and seems to work just as well.

      Yes, Dan is right, as always. But I think Jessie might start by showing us an easier way to make some nice browns for fur, with a more in-depth explanation of using just the primary colors in a separate video on he channel.

    Madame, Im not sure if that is called latex color but most of my portraits are painted with wall paint. Comes on cans of 5litres and costs around 7 to 12 euro (depending on the color because some have to be made by command.
    Again, dont know if thats what you are speaking about, as the cans, though, say acrylic paint none the less ...

    • @UltimatePaperMache
      @UltimatePaperMache  2 роки тому

      Yes, I think that's what I was talking about, Pedro. We call it "latex paint,' but I don't think there's any latex in it. I don't know if it's exactly the same as your acrylic paint, though. And I don't know if they make pure primary colors to use for mixing. Do you mix special colors from a limited palette, or do you get the store to mix them for you?

    • @officiallymrp
      @officiallymrp 2 роки тому

      @@UltimatePaperMache they are actually called "vinyl matte" and I dare say its all purpose paint. Often shops have a variety of color palette and when you choose they should know what to add in order to have the color you've selected (its a machine that makes them, of course). When the can reaches one's hand is sealed so you cant actually see the result. I've had a few experiences where actually I have to rework the tone ... Once I asked for blue and got a sort of purple ..... But the caucasian skin tone is fantastic though ! Eh eh eh

    I wonder if a armasure of tin foil would work, and use paper create in stead of oaoer mache?? what do you think thank you!!

    • @UltimatePaperMache
      @UltimatePaperMache  Рік тому

      It might work, but I haven't tried that. The foil armature might actually keep the air dry clay from cracking, but you'd need to experiment to find out.

    I would love to know how to mix latex paint colors.
    I always check the “wrong color” shelf at Lowes for latex paints that have been mixed but weren’t exactly what someone wanted. The paints may be a gallon or quart, but always marked way down.

    Greetings Joanie! Can magnesium Carbonate be used in place of Calcium carbonate?

    • @UltimatePaperMache
      @UltimatePaperMache  2 роки тому

      I'm not quite sure what you mean - I didn't use any calcium carbonate for the bunny. There is calcium carbonate in the drywall joint compound that's used for the paper mache clay recipe, but I've never used magnesium carbonate in anything so I can't tell you if it would work or not. Do some experiments if you have some on hand, and let us know how they turn out.
