Hi brian, i think azure sql db is positioned as oltp database. Certain settings which are handy for bulk load like autogrow are set to 2mb and this is cost performance in dwh solutions. As i agree with other reactions, MS is leaving a big gap for competitors. You did not mention synapse , but this is sometimes a step too far for companies.
Yeah, Synapse is new name for Azure SQL DW and is not a SQL Server migration option. It is MPP, Massive Parallel, Processing for Big Data. It is not designed for lots of concurrent users or for application OLTP. Thanks.
This honestly makes me feel like Microsoft doesn't care about BI anymore. Simply comparing Data Factory with SSIS or SSAS/SSRS with Power BI... These comparisons feel like comparing toys with actual tools. Kinda sad :/
Did not mean to give that impression. Microsoft is very strong on Power BI and has a platform around it to scale. It' just not tied to SQL Server. Azure Analysis Services is a good BI scalable service. This video was focused on how difficult would it be to migrate on premise SQL Server to Azure. A BI workload might have to be redesigned to fit the Azure world.
