What to pack for Valley Of Flowers trek - 101 with Wanderers

- In this video we share the list of essentials that you need to carry for the Valley Of Flowers trek.
This trek, a part of the Nanda Devi Biosphere, is a trip of a lifetime to the "world heritage site" making a mention in books and in the hearts.
The Valley of flowers trek is definitely a place from where it isn't easy to come back. In fact, it is just not possible. This hidden jewel is a truly unique habitat, home to many endemic varieties of alpine flowers and plants. This valley is at an altitude of 3250 m and above.

Here's a detailed list of things that you need to carry for this trek:
1Nos: Backpack (50-55 Ltr) with sturdy and supporting frame.
1Nos: Waterproof sack cover (mandatory)
1 Pair: Trekking shoes (waterproof/resistant and high ankle)
2 Pairs: Trekking pants (quick dry)
2 Pairs: Waterproof trekking pants
1 Set: Wind stoppers
1 Set: Upper and lower thermals (base layers not too heavy)
2 Pairs: T-shirts quick dry half sleeves
1 Set: Water proof upper & lowers/ ponchos (mandatory)
3 Pairs: T-shirts (quick dry full sleeves)
2 Pairs: Fleece upper (basic)
1 Nos: Full sleeve thick jacket, water proof/wind proof
4-6 Nos: Undergarments
3 Pairs: Cotton towel full length socks
1 Pair: Woollen socks for keeping your feet warm at the camps for night
1 Pair: Flip flops/ sandals with a good grip (suggested)
1 Pair: Woolen hand gloves + synthetic gloves (waterproof gloves)
1 Nos: Sun cap
1 Nos: Woolen cap/balaclava
2 Nos: 1L trekking bottle (one thermostat Milton bottle)
1Nos: Sunglasses - (curved ones will cover your eyes well). Avoid blue
colored sunglasses as they don’t block UV rays that well.
1 Nos: Woolen scarf/mufflers
1Nos: Trekking pole
1Nos: Light towel, quick dry ones
1Nos: Lip balm, Vaseline petroleum jelly, cold cream, Sunscreen lotion (SPF 40+)
1 Nos: LED torch, hand torch or head torch with extra pair of Duracells batteries
1Nos: Anti-fungal powder
Personal toilet kit (minimal) and toilet paper
Medicines:
Croacin advance - 05 tablets
Disprin - 10 tablets
Avil - 04 tablets
Crepe bandage - 03 to 05 meters
Diamox - 05 tablets
Band aids - 10 strips
Combiflam - 05 tablets
Gauze cloth - 01 medium role
Leukoplast - 01 small roll
Dexamathazone - 02 strips (0.5mg) (20tabs)
Cotton - 01 small roll
Nifidepine - 01 strip (10 mg)
Electral - 05 (1 liter sachets)
Volini/ Moov spray - 01 small
Betadine ointment - 01 tube
Digene - 10 tablets

Jeans (which are essentially cotton) are a strict no-no on mountains. They're heavy when dry and they're much heavier when wet. They also do not dry quickly. Cotton also has no heat retention property, they essentially cool you. Instead get synthetic, lightweight, quick dry pants. Decathlon has a reasonably priced selection.
You are correct. Hence we suggest that the trekkers could wear denims (if they really want to) till the start of the trek, which basically means till they reach Joshimath in this case. Journey till Joshimath via rishikesh is more or less via public transport and denims would be the best. At joishimat, you can keep your extra luggage in the hotel (including the denims) and change into your trekking pants and start the trek.

Sir you're doing a great job here. The list is much appreciated. Could you please help me with why the sandals are an essential?
Sandals are important for two reasons - 1) Once you are back at the base, you need to take of the shoes and let the feet free. It relaxes them.
2) U should also carry them along on the trek, sometimes you will encounter streams that you need to cross. Thats the time you want to take off the shoes and wear sandals.

Hello - for rishikesh i am sure you will find a lot of budget hotel on OYO. At Govindghat you can stay at Hotel Badrish. In Ghangaria, you can stay at Hotel Dev Lok \ Hotel Kuber. Also you could stay GMVNL guesthouse at Ghangaria (www.gmvnl.in/) or stay at the Gurudwara too.
Also, Food all through out the route is basic and veg only. So you wont have any issues.

Why two pairs of shoes?
One for wearing at the base camp / one for trekking. Trekking shoes tend to tire out the feet hence a 2nd pair is good to have.
