I can't believe Maya owns an animal sanctuary and has never heard of microchipping your pet. In Illinois it costs about $10 for your vet to chip them and $25 to register the animal to your name. You should all be doing this because the pounds and shelters immediately scan for chips when they are found so they can be returned to their owner!!
I doubt she doesn’t know about microchipping lol. I didn’t even consider what they were describing to be microchipping until reading your comment. at least where I live, you’re legally required to register your pet with the county, and that is what is used to determine ownership. microchips aren’t able to definitively prove ownership.
She probably didn’t realize they were talking about microchipping. If the story said that they would probably both realize it pretty quick.
yeah and i doubt they are often worried about losing animals with the type of secure enclosures they have. at worst it would probably be an intruder which she has cameras everywhere so idk. they also have some animals that used to be pets so she probably knows that (shes also had pets her whole life?)
She's definitely confused or has lived in Texas too long (kidding, even in Texas you have to license your pets). I think if the story just said she "licensed" the dog under her name instead of "put", there may have been less confusion.
I don’t get why everyone thinks this is in relation to microchipping. I guarantee you Maya has her animals microchipped lol. The wording here 100% tracks with the girlfriend having gotten the dog registered in her name as the owner on the AKC papers that would’ve been transferred to her from the breeder. I’ve never heard anyone use that type of phrasing in relation to microchipping or licensing.

My cat Dunkin I got from my ex GF. Her mom couldn't keep the cat where she lived, so the cat came to live with us. We broke up like 2 weeks later, and since she was moving back with her mom where the cat wasn't allowed I got to keep him. For a cat I didnt' want in the first place i would literally murder for him he's been my sweet boy for 10 years now
I did the same with my cat marmalade, the ex wanted to keep him but the cat picked me x
On the cheating and finding out in person vs on text. Sometimes the person shoots the messenger. This happened to me with a close friend.
She was dating a guy, who one day was smoking weed with my older brother and some mutuals. This guy clearly didn't know my brother was good mates with her brothers either. He made jokes the whole time about how much he was cheating on her. Obviously my brother told me, because he didn't want to end this guy's life by telling her older brothers.
I told her, it ended out friendship. She didn't believe me.
Sadly she went on to have a kid with this guy, and only found out how much he was cheating when a friend admitted she had slept with him, and he also knocked up another girl.
Some people need to see it to believe it.

I "hey girlied" my fathers fiance (they were together for 7 years) when I found out he had a sidechick (he married the sidechick 2 years after)
That was 10 years ago. Lost contact with her when she moved a year later and only met her again a few weeks ago. She told me again and again how thankful she was that I told her, cause she got cancer shortly after moving and she firmly believes that she wouldn't have made it when the news came out at that point.

3:25 I don't know how it works in the US, but in the UK you legally have to get your dog/cat registered with one of the government approved pet database companies e.g. PetScanner
they hold keepership records for when someone looks up the microchip number.
it's only a keepership record not an ownership record and database companies do not get involved in ownership disputes so that person could probably still fight for ownership of the dog despite the database registration

as a vet tech, PLEASE get your pets microchipped. it’s an easy and relatively cheap procedure that ensures your dog/cat can be identified if it runs away or gets lost. shelters and vets can both scan the chips.

I was dating this girl, we were together for a few years but drifting apart (got together at 18, went to different colleges). She ends up cheating on me with this guy and then dumping me for him (this was like 12 or 13 years ago). I found out from an old friend of hers a few months ago that she's still with that guy.
