I have this set up and use it to travel with to my vacation place. Other than the fact that the tension isn't like my millennium frame, I really love this. I am happy with mine and the fact that you can take the scrolls off and roll them up so you can put another project on is a big plus and cost saver
Joanne B Yes I think I'd like to get a Millennium sometime in the future too although this working really well for me at the moment. All in good time :) Thanks for watching!
Great video and perfect timing for me. I purchased a stand with a frame that was on clearance at Michaels. There were no instructions included and I couldn't figure out how to put the fabric on. Now I know. Thanks!
Great video, thank you. I just bought the AD table stand with the no basting rods. I'm new to the scroll world (I'm a long time hand holding one handed stitcher). I had to do some research about what it meant to do the basting vs no basting. The AD stand is great - did some trial and error on the best project scroll position. My biggest challenge is transitioning to a two handed method (lol).
Oh Claire, I just re-watched your Tool Time Tag video and you said in it that you much prefer using the lap stand on the sofa rather than at a table so i found the answer to the question in my earlier comment. Sorry to have bothered you about a question you've already answered! You are such a lovely person to help me (and others). 🌷🌷
Not a silly question!! I really wish that I had been able to ask these questions when I was looking for my lap stand. I researched as much as I could but in the end I had to take a punt. I love having a community of stitchers who are willing to answer our questions! That's partly why I make videos, I want to contribute to the ocean of knowledge and share it so it can enhance everyone's stitching experience! Being part of flosstube and the FB cross stitch community has only made my hobby more enjoyable :)
I really like this system. I might try to convert my split rails to a no baste system. I can't seem to get even tension (especially in the middle). I really like drum-like tension on all my projects - I take music breaks when stitching - lol just kidding! I saw that your stitching had a bit of give when you were talking about tension, so I guess I'm asking if you can get it any tighter than you showed? Thanks for sharing!
Hi Jennifer - the tension you've seen is the tightest I can achieve on my scroll frame. If you like really tight tension you might like to consider the Millennium frame? I haven't got one but both Teresa the little stitcher and Carolyn Mazzeo have them and say the tension is fantastic.
Great video Claire! I wish I'd known about that no-basting system back before I had my Millennium. I really disliked stitching the fabric onto those bars! Love your lap stand too 😉💗
Thanks Carolyn :) Although I wish I'd done more planning before filming this video. I slapped it together in a couple of minutes making it up on the fly. A lovely lady on CS&D called Tara was asking me some questions about my frame specifically because she is about to start stitching Macintosh Mill. I started to type her an answer but thought a video would be easier. Now I keep thinking about the many other things I should have shown and spoken about regarding this stand. Oh well it will have to do for now. I hope some people find it helpful anyway. As always my dear, happy stitching :)
Pyrex Stitches Haha I do that with every video - always forget something!!! I've already recommended this to one lady, so expect some questions. Why weren't we friends years ago? You could have made me life so much easier :) x
I would like to replace the fabric strip with the no-baste strip. I have purchased the strips for both the stand and fabric. Could you tell me what glue you use to mount the strip? Thank you for sharing this informative video. I love my lap stand and look forward to making it into the no-baste version.
Hi, I recently acquired a lap stand like this. The two little blocks, the spacers, are missing. I was wondering if you could give me the dimensions so I can get some made. They look to be about 2"?
Great info, thanks. Question....where do you get the silver magnets you are using for your needle minders? What are they called? All I can find are larger/thicker black ones. Also the name of the Amish pattern please? I love it. Thanks again.
Hi there, the extenders are a standard length that come with the frame. Some do have holes at intervals so you can bring the scroll bars closer together though.
Claire, thanks again for pulling this video together to answer all my crazy questions. It really did help me better understand using scroll rods and specifically this stand. Do you use this stand mainly sitting on a couch/chair with it over your legs, or do you mainly use it on a table? Or equally?
Even though I know you found the answer I will respond anyway :) I only ever stitched at the table once - and that was the day of my tool time tag! I now only stitch on the sofa. I find it very comfortable. If you look at my Teresa Tag video I show my main stitchy spot on the sofa with my light as well. Hope this helps Tara. I'm so excited for you to start your project soon!! You have to keep me updated on your progress :) happy stitching xxx
Hi Marie!! Sorry I missed responding to your message earlier!! Yes I do allow for the no basting tape when measuring. I am generous when I measure usually allowing 3 or 4 inches on larger projects, I find this helps me with my framing as well. I hate not having a generous amount of fabric personally
Thanks Claire. Would you consider doing a video (if your set up allows it) of you stitching using the lap stand. If you can't, that's fine. :) I have had this stand on my wish list for quite a while and I've been so indecisive about it.
I have always used a hoop and now I am searching for a floor stand. I have watched your video on the American Dream lap stand. I have two questions: One, does American Dream have a floor stand? I don't see an option for a floor stand but have seen one when I googled a floor stand. Two, in your experience do you which stand and frame set is better, the American Dream no basting frame and floor stand vs Needle Needs Millennium Frame and floor stand? I am hoping to buy a stand/frame system that I like on the first try. I don't want to waste money on subpar frames and stands. If anyone has any opinion please help with my decision. Thank you.
Hi there - to my knowledge America Dream doesn't have a floor stand and I haven't had any experience with floor stands myself at all. I have used scroll frames for years and they are my preferred. I discovered the no bast system when I purchased this frame and I love it. As far as Millennium frames are concerned I've personally never used them. I know many stitchers who do own them and absolutely love them but they are a bigger financial investment. There is also the Quantum frame which is a similar system, has a faster delivery time and isn't as expensive. A friend of mine has one of those with a floor stand and swears by it. I also know many stitchers who have the Lowery stand and I've heard lots of good things about those too. It's a big decision and there is a lot to think about. I know this is currently my preferred system and I hope you find one that works for you :)
When you are stitching on this frame, how are you starting and ending your stitches...are you rotating the frame or doing the loop for the starter stitch and the pin stitch to end your thread? I'm rotating the frame to do both and it's driving me nuts! Also, my frame keeps slipping, and I'm constantly having to re-tighten it. Any suggestions to keep this from slipping? Thanks
Hi Terry - I usually flip the frame (more like spin than flip) and finish at the back. I use loop start when I'm using 2 strands and I sometimes finish with a pin stitch. As for tightening, yes it died slip a little and I don't really have a solution for that I'm afraid. Still love how compact this system is and price wise it's great value. Still my only frame and I love it
I just received my American Dreams scroll frame and this video has helped so much. Thank you!

I had no idea you could use different brand scroll rods with this frame. Thanks for the video!
Thank you for the great video of the baste system. I wondered how it worked.

Thank you for this. You just saved me some money, I'm converting my basting rod to no basting
I am just now watching this. Embroidery. com now has this system.
정말 대단하세요~~

부럽네요~~^^
Thanks. I am definitely trying this.
crossmystitch susan My pleasure, thanks for watching :)
I have this stand and I hate it but I must say that this no sew idea is awesome!
oh my gosh i just got mine today way to wide for lap now what lol i could use it on table but i wanted it for my lap love the no baste

Really helpful video! I will have to try some of that no basting system :) thanks!!!
I'm glad you found it helpful, thanks for watching :)

Oh the tape is already stitchy so you won’t need any glue etc! Just peel off the plastic backing and off you go!

Oh the back is just as beautiful
Thank you for sharing!
Sorry to bother you, but what size extenders do you use for your 20 inch & 24 inch frames?
Hi there, the extenders are a standard length that come with the frame. Some do have holes at intervals so you can bring the scroll bars closer together though.
Hi maam, can we use beaded design cloth on this frame. Wont it damage while scrolling
Just put some felt in between as you roll it up and don’t do it too tight. I’ve found it works well
Great to see - thanks very much 💜
My pleasure, thank you for watching :)
Where do you get your patterns from?
Claire, thanks again for pulling this video together to answer all my crazy questions. It really did help me better understand using scroll rods and specifically this stand. Do you use this stand mainly sitting on a couch/chair with it over your legs, or do you mainly use it on a table? Or equally?

Claire, do you just add a couple of extra centimetres to allow for the basting when measuring your fabric for a project?
Hi Marie!! Sorry I missed responding to your message earlier!! Yes I do allow for the no basting tape when measuring. This excellent information thank you. But my question is, where do you get the long rods that go on the scroll?
They come with it! Brilliant!

Hi Bing! Sorry for the delay in replying! Yes you can definitely use this frame on a table and hade your hands free :)
I've seen a couple people mention the tension on this frame. I'm considering purchasing this stand but how bad is the tension, really?
