I spent a lot of father-son time in the cockpit with my dad back in the 70's and have never lost my love for aviation because of him. I've wanted to duplicate the NY to Paris flight but don't see myself going back to flight School because of time and working. I was very sad to bury my dad, my hero on New Year's Eve but I can rejoice that I had him with me for 55 years.
Wow. Absolutely wonderful. I truly appreciate the dedication of the airline pilots. I think it is wonderful how he was able to share his passion with his sons. Great video.
This is such a great video. Happy retirement sir!! I see that your seeds fell and grew, God is/was so apparent in the gentlemans' life. One of our God's amazing truths'is know matter what the news brings there are still plenty of people who care enough about his fellow man to touch those around him. How wonderful! rw
Ayyyyyy..,.,,how emotional....I started crying when one of the sons was emotional showing how proud he is of his beloved father...I lost my dad 1 year ago....God bless the family....
All pilots are Guardian Angels when you think about it. Just think of the responsibility they take on to keep safe Hundreds of human beings daily by keeping a 100 ton piece of metal in the sky without crashing. Also Angels are The Mechanics who fix the plane to the last detail. God Bless You All
Dawn FKA hamilton-doerfler He is a human who has been trained to do his job what he loves best .Hes not a guardian angel .Pilots r not guardian angels .They r human beings like u and me who r trained to pilot planes which practically fly themselves.🙄
My dad was a mechanic and worked on P-51 Mustangs during WWII. He got me interested in aviation at the age of 6 with my first model airplane. He bought a Cherokee Arrow in 1973 and I got my private license in 1975. I only flew full scale for a few years, but I’ve been flying RC models for 60 years.
I do not suggest I know how any of these guys feel, but the film shows a happy man with a happy family. Not everyone loves the job they have....these guys certainly do. Thanks for sharing your family story with us.
I loved the story about the WWII vetran and how the visit with the pilot affected his whole family. We never know what a few kind moments we give to someone will affect their lives. I have found Southwest employees seem to go the extra mile. Thank you for that.
I was the same way with my father..................in the Trucking Business. Been in Semi's since 1963. I was 5 yrs. old. Retired from Trucking in 2011.
Congratulations Capt. Carder! You've done your bit for your country!! May yo go on to have a fun filled retirement w/ your family. May your sons & nephew go on to be the best they can be. You have had a most admirable career. Enjoy yourself now, you've earned it !!!!
Congratsulations Captain Carder!! What an amazing success story. This is one of the things I’ve enjoyed in my short time in the aviation industry. From pilots to the folks building the actual airplanes this is the only industry I’ve been in where you can see such incredible stories of entire families working together for decades and absolutely loving their jobs!
To Captai Carden, Hearing the tributes & heartfelt testimonies of ppl brought tears. U obviously touched many lives & will b sorely missed. So gd ur sons will carry on the tourch. Congrats, enjoy a well-deserved retirement.😊
Love your video!! I did a similar video a couple of months ago on my channel. It was a lot of fun being able to show everyone the cool career my dad had as an airline pilot! Congratulations on Retirement!!
Thank you Captain for all your service for all those years and your family following in your footsteps how awesome! Who knows maybe one of your son's one day we'll be flying me around brilliant!!
To see God's creation: I have ever flown as a passenger only once (I chose the smallest airliner I could, directly into Monterey, CA--United Express). I LOVED it and spent almost the entire flight looking down through my left window. When I didn't it was only due to cloud cover. The turbulence was GREAT. Loved every bump and twist and shudder. It was ALIVE. I had another flight--a glider ride--and oddly enough on the very day my father soloed. And a third with my nephew sitting in my lap (small back seat-Schweitzer 232 I think) which was just cool. Bumpy as all get out...but just great. Our young pilot asked us if we wanted to go "roller-coaster." We both did and it ROCKED. Gees both up and down and my nephew's face was red, but chuffed. And then the view out and down on the University of Colorado band practicing at Folsom Field, Boulder CO. I looked straight down and could, literally, see the sunlight shining off all the brass instruments from maybe 2000' AGL...and could even make out the shape of the tubas. Something I will never forget. At 61, with really poor vision and a destroyed left leg (missing my left achilles--the muscles are still there, by they are withered because they aren't attached to anything at the bottom end), I doubt I would ever have the privilege to be a pilot of a powered aircraft, although it might be possible with a glider--I might pass the flight physical for that. Which might be enough. Sell the two sports cars and fly for a year or two or three. Until I get too old for that. That might be enough to fill the memories.
I couldn't stay speechless... Remarkable Captain Carder i am impressed with you, your beautiful sons, and your awesom working attitude towards the amazing things God created. And you enjoyed, and seen flying up above, with your beautiful sons, and now continuing passing on, the torch to their children! Congratulations...please relax and enjoy your retirement. God bless you all.
Wonder Breed But it’s worth it. I wouldn’t trade the job for anything.

Hello Southwest Airlines! I'm an ICAO level 6 pilot and I teach aviation English here in Brazil to my fellow pilots with my school. May I use this wonderful video in some of classes?
I'd love to be in a family devoted to aviation but my dad is a computer guy and my mom is a stay at home some of my relatives were in the military but nothing related to aviation so if I get a PPL and go to an airline is be the first in the family to be part of the aviation community and hopefully not the last since I might get my kids into aviation (when I get kids at least) and I might go with you guys for my airline of choice because you guys train pilots and flight Attendants in a way I like and am comfortable with so somewhere in the future you might see me apply for first officer or pilot depending on my hours and if I have been in any other airline.
Fantastic .talk about looking up to dad. Hold on il do what he did and my brother can join me we can be great pilots like dad was. and my son now wants to be a pilot what a great family...
Really heartwarming and touching video. Southwest and its family never ceases to impress me. But that lady in the wheelchair at 1:29 with her boarding pass in hand was like, can we get this show on the road already...I'd like to board. lol
I was a passenger on my uncle's last flight as a captain with SWA, my brother flies for SWA and was his FO. There were several other retired and active SWA employees on this epic flight.

Re the dislikes, this is a great video, there are some sad people in this world, may they find happiness somewhere.
They are the ones that couldn’t make it thru ground school.

Great guy. Son pilot and now grandson too. Set up whole family
If all the pilots with Southwest are like Captain Carder, that airline is VERY lucky indeed!
Hats off to all you Pilots who take to the sky each and every day! Our lives are in your hands so we pray for you all. God's speed

My beautiful friend Barbara has been a stewardess at Southwest since 1974 I think. Still as lovely as when she graduated high school.
