This really is on another level. Don’t get emotional with a lot of songs/performances, but this has me in tears over and over again.

Men when Cory plays he brings a piece of heaven to earth. Even on the shittiest day when I just feel empty inside his music makes me feel something and that something is so special.

Loved this, I’ve been sat there with tears streaming time after time after time. It is one of the defining covers of anything, of anytime for me. As a huge Prince fan, it is one of very few times where I have felt the musical sincerity being an intrinsic part of a ‘cover’ performance. The little changes, the pathos in the pause at ‘friendship had to end’, the switch on the fourth pass of the motif at the end, the outro…it is sublime.
To see genius pay tribute to genius is an honour. Thank you for sharing your emotional response. Look forward to spending more time with you via these videos.
Look after yourself, and thank you.

I was looking for a reaction like this because it seems not as many people comprehended the gravity of his performance ..it was art through music with so many layers it requires multiple viewings to truly appreciate it in its entirety..I play this song on repeat and the phrases and nuances make me emotional as well because as you said it speaks to our humanity and the music can connect us and make us feel such emotion and nostalgia when we listen and this song in particular because the original artist is gone but his artistry lives on through these covers..thanks for the commentary emotion and vulnerability

There are only 2 covers of Purple Rain that have the “feel”. This one by Cory, and this one by Foy Vance for Buzzsessions - a totally different stripped back acoustic version, but every bit as special, because it’s got that feel and passion that this song needs to do it justice. This one made me cry too. I’d love you to react and compare!! ua-cam.com/video/Lw3aQtfvUx0/v-deo.html

Thank you for your commentary, brother. Cory Henry is one of the very few musical geniuses of our time. I was blessed to have seen Cory perform 3 times when he was in the band "Snarky Puppy" and all three times the musical experiences were absolutely amazing.

Cory is such an exceptionally remarkable talent. He allows the gift of his instrumentality on the organ to become his voice and evoke the emotions of his audience. We all have heard the timeless lyrics to "Purple Rain," but its when you don't need the lyrics and still feel every sentiment the song conveys through the instrumental accompaniment, that's when you know you're listening to something special. As always, Charlie, thank you for "Letting Us Go" with you on these musical journeys and reactionary videos. Keep GOING, Sir. You are an inspiration.

I can’t watch this without balling. Corey really touches my heart, his feeling is all over his face. I agree with you, seeing people fall in love with what they are hearing and seeing it touch their heart is truly special. Mate if they play in the UK I’m there. I had the pleasure of seeing snarky with Corey at the sage in gateshead and it was one of the best gigs of my life.

Oh, Charlie, this is such a gift. Thank you, what a beautiful performer. This transports me back to this time in my life (which was not so beautiful). There's something so compassionate in this song and this performance.

    Excellent choice sir!
Of the 5mil+ views this clip has, I can confidently lay claim to about a million of them (not really but it sure feels like it). When Prince transcended mere mortality on this earth, I was at a loss on how to reconcile my feelings on the passing of not only a musical icon (that had been a huge influence on me during my formative years), but an influence whose works, always brought me joy and happiness. I heard versions from other artists, but nothing seemed to convey what I thought was an appropriate tribute to the great man himself.
    Until I watched this.
I knew it was perfect, because I cried for most of it and at the end of this performance my soul felt at ease.
So I understand your tears, and like yourself I have watched this amazing tribute so many times I have sections where I love hearing either the horns or Cory on his keyboard come in that really appeal to me.
Cory Henry? Genius . You can see, hear, and feel the enormous amount of love and surely a large part of his soul into this performance, which is why it resonates with people on so many different levels, and is the difference between, singing a song and performing a masterpiece. - Thank you Cory.
Great reaction, Charlie and thank you.

This reaction is the same I jhad when I heard this OEUVRE first time.
I was in a dark place and... yeah. It made me believe beauty exists still.
I still have that reaction from time to time. Corey made an already amazing song and pushed it through another universe of awe and art.

To cover Purple Rain is okay...to show that as an example of greatness is a little strange...the original is not to top,so why not show that?or take another song so there is no distraction,bc a great `newer`artist performs a lesser rendition....and that is not biased,bc Prince is one of the absolute exceptions...
It's like covering "Hey Jude" from the Beatles, or "Superstitious" from Stevie Wonder...nice,but...^^
Especially Prince who is/was known for making an existing song even greater when he covered it..
Yes,it is a great version...but not on par when it comes to the vocals and the guitar-mastery of the original artist.
When you cover people like him,or Bowie or even Kate Bush it is absolutely fine to keep the legacy going...but to top them is something that has yet to happen...and may never.

    • @Adirondaque
      @Adirondaque Рік тому +1

I don't think Corey's goal was to top Prince's version at all.He just took it and made it his own. People can change stuff and make them enjoyable, not everything has to stay the same or sound the same. You can also let people enjoy things. NOt everyone will react the exact same way either.
You can also stop being an elitist. Not everything exists to solely please you.
