    Gotta love the display localisation options for NICAM, PDC, and VPS, which were commonplace features in UK/ European machines, and then CATV, SAP L/R options for the folks across the pond!
    Anyway, lovely work getting it going again! 👍

      Oddly though, PDC was not included on the EV-S9000E which is the UK version.

    I've done quite a lot on the UK version of this machine, the EV-S9000E. As you know, parts are a big problem now, especially reel tables. I've also had a few go down with mass capacitor failure which can't really be fixed. Done a few displays, not had the diode fail yet. Sometimes had to replace all the SM caps in the TBC panel, and all secondary capacitors in the PSU (note low ESR required for some locations). There were many special features on this machine such as digital stereo audio dub which were unmatched by almost anything else in the pro-sumer space including SVHS.

      @@12voltvids I'd say they were the pinnacle of Hi-8 editing VCRs back in the mid-late 90s. Too bad I never got to operate one......

      @12voltvids  3 роки тому

      @@vampyrelycan99 Consumer yes. There were professional hi8 decks that put this to shame like the evo9800. It interfaced into umatic or betacam edit suites flawlessly and allowed tv stations to use cameras like the evw300 right along side or betacam and most wouldn't be hard pressed to tell the difference by the time it was broadcast. Picture quality wise these were identical however the Evo series were industrial and could run all day everyday and not skip a beat. This machine was consumer with lots of plastic. Two of these machines together with edit exceptionally well and as far as consumer machine goes it was probably the best that was ever made.

    Smashing repair.
    Dam crappy caps again!, but they are old so it's not too supprising.
    The diode does need to be very fast at switching so it does not act as a short.
    I made a mistake with a switchmode psu, i put an ordinary diode in the output, bonfire.
    Schokky diodes were the correct ones, i didn't forget that mistake lol.

    ALL those electrolytic caps inside the shield can will need to be replaced. Every one had spewed their guts. I had a nightmare repair experience on one of these. I had to also remove the 8pin transformer to clean the board under it, and damaged / detached two of the pins. I was able to do micro surgery and reattach the single strand wires to the pins. It was a nightmare. Shame on Sony for this design. The caps in the DC to DC convert or just boiled all their shit all over the board. Horrific.

      Yes digital obviously is great no doubt much less of a hassle for the most part. Back in the days this was what we had and was one the best prosumer machines on the market at the time. It was. My favorite till the spindle cracked as they decided it was a good idea to fuse plastic to metal not realizing metal expansion, or plastic can shrink? Yes they never intended for these to last this long but the take up spindle cracking was a issue when they were new back then.
      Some still need these decks to do transfers and having a deck with DNR in the deck is valuable when doing transfers. Plus even if not useful anymore still a collector’s piece.
