Hey Gilles, great comparison, the malahit clone is by far the best with the ats 25 a close second but I can't believe how poor the Sangean performed and was and I think is probably the most expensive. Thanks for the video and always look forward to your live streams. Cheers Daniel.
This is the "lets bash sangean thread", right - go for it bruh 😄 I think the Sangean is an awesome device - is it perfect? Of course not! - Put PUT A LONGWIRE ANTENNA or anything similar - something huge on the Sangean and then on the chinese SDR.. I would be interested how both will perform then..
Well based on info here and other videos I went ahead and ordered the ATS-25 simply because the price is getting lower. For 93 bucks shipped to my door it is a cool radio for what it is and looks fun as hell to operate. Now today I see them for 88 bucks shipped.
the ATS25 i have one and live in a very bad location for tx/rx and this little rx works great for me + mobile i have tried so many over the year's the only thing is it does not like large antennas very much due to over loading 73s
SDR has been working it's way down from kilobuck desktops for awhile. I have a SDRPlay DX which is amazing. You can tailor the signal in so many ways. They're still working on it and making it better. When they can get it to the size of that 909 with built in antennas, nice display and decent audio, I'll bite. It out performed the Sangean in this instance but if I had my pick, I'd still take the Sangean.
It depends a lot about the Antenna you use - the Sangean is a very good device for its price its at least way okay - IT DEPENDS SO MUCH on the antenna - the Telescope-Antenna on the Sangean and even the wire-antenna? Yeah.. its part of the Set - use a real antenna, something for those bands you really use and want to listen, and then lets copmare Sangean with SDR.. or just Sangean-Telescope and included "small-wire" and your actual DX-Antenna/ham-antenna ..
I really thought the Sangean would have performed better than the other two. I too like the noise reduction on the DSP SDR. What's the build quality like on the DSP SDR and ATS25?
I like the first Chinese SDR one just a tad better than the ATS-25 but it's close. What I'm waiting for is for Chris at Radiolabs to get Sangean's firmware worked out on the 909 X2 so he can modify it with his filter design. I still use one of his first older Super 909s that is a fantastic fun receiver I'd like to see hooked up there with those others.
I've seen a few of those DSP SDR without a case, battery, and speaker for around $100, and the ones with the case and battery, and speaker seem to be listed for around $280+. I've been looking at one but didn't want to spend close to $300 for one, the bare one seems like it might be my option, but always a bit worried about the shipping.
You should upgrade to the original software on the Malahit, you run the chinese demo software.. The performance and the noise reduction is even more impressive! Its one of the best I have listened in many receivers during 40 years! As well you have many more options in the software from russia.. Malahit is a great device...
@@OfficialSWLchannel Well, I understand that the hardware has limitations about processor or memory RAM, but you could adapt some coding at least to emulate something about noise reduction...I am remember programming in a small home computer (Sinclair 1000) long time ago, was fun trying to do something cool with the hardware limitation (2k RAM) !!!..., about the waterfall, I understand, screen hardware limitations...Happy Holidays to everybody !!!...Gilles, thank you for your work, I revisit your videos very often...I learn a lot !!!
I can catch that signal, relatively intelligible: Device: DeepSDR 101 Antenna: magnetic field loop (HFDYloop), indoor Location: Tangier/Morocco Date: 08/01/2023 @ 23:00
i have bought a 2nd hand trio r600 and got nothing on 5mhz so i have bought the chinese dsp when i get it i will try both on the same frequency as i am in the uk who knows what will happen
The Chinese Clone is pretty impressive over all, mainly with the NR on. I'd have to say the Sangean was the worst performing of the three. I'd like to hear the difference on a SW broadcast signal.. is the AM performance as good?
Hi, I have got both Malahit DSP SDR and the tiny ATS 25X1. Beside the noisy reduction of the Malahit, the sound is pretty crappy even with the use of an head phone. The fonctionality are rather complex and boring (choice of AGC speed, bandwith and BFO setting, etc). I prefer the sound quality of the ATS 25 X1, and the logical command of the different settings wich are clear and "friendly". Much more easy. I can spend hours of listening Broadcast stations and HAM qso. I am about to purchase a bigger radio for travel like the Tecsun PL990X, or the Sangean 909X2 (I still hesitate). Anyway, thanks for your videos I apreciate. Denis, France.
Malahit copy noticibly better the ats slightly better my opinion is no radios like the sangean or tecsun are good they are always lacking is some ways .my grundig 750 is average but still not that great way over priced maybe it's good for medium wave .but average on shortwave ham .just my view thanks for the video
The Sangean is functionally obsolete. The manufacturer should consider taking the Malachite receiver's guts into the Sangean's body and replacing the large LCD with the LED. They should add a USB port. A touch screen would eliminate the need for all the buttons. The interior space saved would allow for a more prominent speaker. The cost would remain the same and users would still have a traditional-looking portable receiver.
Not a proper test. Each receiver should be switched through the same antenna. Also only the radio being tested should be on and the other two receivers should be switched off as there is a serious probability pf proximity interference between active receivers.
Yes proper test, using a Multicoupler that has 4 antenna ports that are all independent and prevent any interactions with the radios. Cables are shielded. no such problem this test is very good
I liked the Malachit clone the best. I was really surprised that the Sangean didn't perform as well, that was a shocker.
Sangean Shortwaves have always been notoriously quiet on SSB

What antenna was being used ?

Seems that DSP should be standard on better radios now. Thanks for the video.
The Killing Feature from the Klone is the NR Function. That make the great difference.

How do/did you like it ?
I ordered the ATS25x2 to work with my Sangean 909 zu vergleichen. I'm already looking forward to the ATS25x2 being here.
The SDR receivers received the signal from the British Royal Force more audibly, surpassing, in my view, the Sangean receiver.
the ATS25 i have one and live in a very bad location for tx/rx and this little rx works great for me + mobile i have tried so many over the year's the only thing is it does not like large antennas very much due to over loading 73s

The Chinese clone DSP, with all of its shortcomings regarding battery power, gives a good account of itself, especially with that amazing NR feature.
ordered a malachit receiver to try out against a trio r600 and a ats 20 but living in a apartment block doesnt help

Malahit is a great device...
Noise reduction on malichite clone works good
Great video, thanks
you are testing the audio out and speakers as well as radio reception
The clone really left the others standing!
The Malahit with noise reduction was the best.
Since that the ats-25 is working on a updated pc software, why they not add the function for noise reduction?…is this a hardware limitation?
This is not a SDR, it is not capable of noise reduction or waterfall

1)China Malahit 2) ATS-25 3) Sangean. My lovely Sangean 909 loose this battle. Was RF Gain in max position?
The DSP SDR is the clear winner. Was wondering... would it help to ground the radio to lower the noise floor?
no, the noise is picked up at the antenna, grounding will have no effect on that
@@OfficialSWLchannel thanks for the info.
which one is your favorite?

Would like to have seen a SDRPlay in the shootout.
Where can I buy the first Dsp Chinese sdr?

NR is great on that Malachit. , even SDRuno doesn't do it as well. What the firmware version on the Sangean? Hope you're healing up well.
The nr is malahit Amazing.. I hope to buy this device.
Que tipo de antena usan estos receptores
Do have a link to the Chinese SDR?
non way to beat dsp receivers
How are you splitting the input?
multicoupler
Sangean from me....other two directly recycling... thanks for posting
Which Software Version has your DSP SDR, V. 1.10a?
So equal loss thru each port? Same sig level delivered to each rcvr??
The multicoupler is high quality very low loss with each receiver isolated from each other, each port delivers same signal
ATS-25 DSP first radio. It’s better..
Modern portables don't stand a chance against the DSP clones.
the tiny clone is the best
So what is the best price/quality?
ats25 (i believe!!!)
I think the malachite Clone is better, I just cancel my 909X2 Sangean😢
Chinese DSP SDR won the competiton by far with noise reduction function. Sangean did not shine.
PX on ats 25 is CB

Chinese DSP SDR for it noise reduction
🇧🇷🇺🇦✌🏻😁MALAHITE IS AMAZING❗
The Chinese clone was much better. I want you to switch off other radios while one is performing. Avoid any interference.
nope, I use a multicoupler that isolates ports.. no need to turn off anything

In general Japanese made radios are better.
Ats 20 its better
ATS 20 is junk compared to this one
