Something like that happened to my keezer. I vacumed off the heat exchange coils and vacuumed the whole compressor compartment. Turned it back on and it has worked like a champ since. Good luck 🍀
Joe I am so Happy you are back on the air.
2020 was a great year - why? - because Joe is back. All will be better now.
WOOT! :-) Thanks for the welcome back huzzah! If I could swing my magic keg line and fix 2020, I'd do it in a heartbeat.
@@terpsichoreankid hi Joe (you two-you tube) thanks for the reply. Mate your return to the ‘hop waves’ is a great ending to 2020. Your return has also ‘dry hopped’ 2021 to be a great recovery year. Stay safe Joe. As I said good to see you back ‘a-grain’.
Joe yes you can repair them but sometimes it costs more to repair then to buy a new one. Take back cover off and see how much dust it on the small copper fins( probably painted black) also see if there is a small fan in the area. If it is dirty or fan not running that will make the compressor hot. You may also have lost the Freon in it. They can check if you have some one work on it. They don’t build things anymore like they did years ago. Good luck hope this helps a little and glad to see your videos back , watched many of them when I started brewing a few years back
Thanks for the tips Patrick! I'll look about, but I think this is one of those wall radiator style units--no fan that I have found as of yet. Pretty much nothing to it, so I'm not holding my breath...
Black Friday is around the corner. I'm betting you can find one for $100 or less. Best of luck and have a Happy Thanksgiving! Also, I was expecting this video to be your final farewell, with the title being what it is. I'm thankful you're not leaving!
Very good point, though I'm late seeing this! Maybe a Cyber Monday sale... LOL
Wow, didn't realise you'd started posting again. Great to see you back Joe, you got me into home brewing 10 years ago now!
Joe's back, there is some hope in 2020! I'd check the Capacitor as Adam Allen stated. You can always check the freon levels. I believe that compressor model is EMU55HLP from your video and may utilize R134a refrigerant which you can get at Autozone or Walmart. If you don't want to mess with it, you could always share how you make your upgraded Keezer and what you would change on this next one.
Thanks Benjamin--happy to be back! I'm tinkering with it, so will probably do a video on what I wound up doing.
2020 is a bitch. Time to get back to brewing to find some joy and give us some as well by watching your videos
Your videos were the first I looked at when getting into brewing and it would be great to see you back in the saddle
Well Joe.........mama said there would be days like this, mama said
Cheers to a better up coming week.
😢 Gutted. Your Keezer inspired mine. I hope that Nikki is ok and you get it fixed soon 👍
Sorry to hear about fridge and car... good to hear from you though. She served honorably.
Joe! So glad to see you back!! I’ve really enjoyed all your videos!! This makes 2020 at least a bit better. Cheers brother!
At work, our AC unit was acting in a manner similar to your description, and found the cooling oil or whatever was spitting out and a copper hose was breached. Check your connections and compressor. Perhaps if its a unit that needs refrigerant, may need a refill because of a possible leak or maybe just be empty.
I'm not sure if you saw it on another video that I commented on, but I was planning on making my first cider, and I simply don't have the refrigerator space to store a keg or the connections and things necessary to get force carbonation equipment. So I wanted to know if I could use carbonation drops in place when I'm making the hard cider.
Mine did the same exact thing a couple months ago. Get a bullet piercing valve (very easy to install) . Add coolant and drink on. Cheers!!
Capacitor maybe? I know compressors in those things have a capacitor to kick start it. They're cheap. It's worth trying. Should be plenty of vids for a how to.
Modern compressors that go to freezers and refrigerators have a solid potential relay attached to the compressor leads themselves. They go out and the unit quits working. I have a wine cooler and relay went out. Replaced and cooler is working just fine. Remove cap to compressor with power unplugged and see if a potential relay is installed. Could be a simple fix.
If the compressor was hot when you unplugged it that means you lost your coolant. Needs a recharge and patch on leak. If you can find someone to do it. Also if the compressor is hot that means your capacitor is fine because it's running. Also don't listen to me I have know idea what I'm talking about. Good luck Joe.
So Joe... What happened? Did you get it fixed? Got a new one?
Hopefully you still have the mini fridge to toss the 2 kegs into for now.
It actually has a beer fermenting in it... LOL The kegs are out in the 40F garage... At least mother nature is being kind to me! (derecho, not included in that statement)
Capacitor or relay I have had this happen before. Mine was the capacitor. The pumps cannot be fixed since they are hermetically sealed.
I'm tinkering with all these potential scenarios--would hate to junk it if it's an easy fix.
I just sold my kegerator. You can get great deals on Facebook marketplace and craigslist if you don't want to buy new.
Since it runs and you can hear trickling, it means it probably works ok just low on coolant b/c of a leak. Fixing the leak/refilling is not a big job but probably best done by a repairperson.
I'd call a refrigeration tecnician might not be that expensive to fix. If you have a mechanic that does HVAC in your neighbourhood they might be able to help you. Might be something simple like an expanision valve or pressure protection valve.
I'll give that a look. We live in the middle of nowhere, so it may be cheaper to buy a new one, but will see if I can find a solution. Thank you for the advice!
@@terpsichoreankid Ok I see. Seems in america you have a handyman living under a rock alomost everywhere though. LOL
Typically when you hear a liquid sound in your refrigeration lines, you’ve either lost the charge or there’s a restriction in the cap tube. They can be repaired, but not cost effective. A compressor alone can run around $400 + labor.
As an appliance tech, I would say replace it.
I had this happen to my fridge and it was the inbuilt defrost timer that was bad.
I don't think mine has a defrost timer. Only a few electronics on it, and everything seems to be powered. I'm starting to (sadly) think it's the coolant and/or lines...
*2020* yea, tell me about it ... My keg fridge also packed up in early April ... Got replaced with a 2nd hand one about 4months ago and i transferred everything. About 2 weeks ago that one also decided to not cool anymore 😟 just great 2020 just great 🤦♂
Best guess is the start capacitor or start relay. www.fix.com/repair/appliance/freezer/wont-start/#:~:text=If%20your%20freezer%20won't%20start%2C%20you%20may%20have%20a,hum%20but%20may%20not%20start. Both of which *Should* be easy enough to switch out for not much money. Start with the capacitor though.
I would try the capacitor. There are UA-cam videos that can show you how to check anx fix those.
Sounds like loss of refrigerant, need someone with gauges to check pressure, and check for leaks. Possibly compressor failure... Need a HVAC tech.....
Thermal over load?!? Try to plug it back in🤷🏻♂️ if the comp was that hot now that it’s cool
Stop in a local hvac parts store and tell them your issues they may suggest a “hard start” kit used for failing compressors it could get you by for a while! Cheers
Not the greatest--been downhill for a while, and the pandemic has thrown a wrench in everything, of course. Here's hoping some people are able to get out and shop local for the holidays.
Try a different power outlet before junking it.
I will give that a try. The circuit it's on has been solid forever, but you never know.
Rip the collar off and buy a new unit. Put the collar on the new unit. They aren’t terribly expensive these days.
Mine did this during the summer. My fix was pretty simple. The cooling fan got hung up on a piece of insulation that came off. I removed it and it started going again. Also my compressor was EXTREMELY hot when this happened. Sending good fortune from Dubuque
Mine is one of the models that doesn't have a fan-all radiant through the shell of the unit. Here's hoping I can fix it. We were just in Dubuque about a month or so back-- dropped way too much money at Dimensional Brewing Co. :-)
