@@user-zi6op4dz2xwhat the hell is wrong with you? In the last moments of this kid’s life, he sacrificed himself and did what the shooter told him to do because he likely knew that if he didn’t, they were both going to be killed right then and there. If he would have ran first, then EC would have turned the gun on the other boy. I believe that Justin had that realization and sacrificed himself. He died trying to protect someone he didn’t even really know. That tells me everything that I need to know about him.

Stop giving credit to parents when you don’t know them. Kids are not always a reflection of the people who raised them. Good people can come from awful families. Crediting parents every time someone does something good is like when people thank god every time someone does something good. It’s annoying and unnecessary!

My daughter was at the mall during a shooting… Her dad took her birthday shopping and I was grocery shopping with my husband when she messaged that there was a shooting and said “Dads not here.” It took me a second to realize what she said and I had a nervous breakdown in the middle of Walmart. She’s 17 and was shopping at Forever 21 while her Dad ran to the adjacent food court for drinks. She hid in the dressing room with girls all strangers huddled together some of them crying. Her dad said he could smell the gun shots and ran across the mall to get to her not knowing where the shots came from. They locked him out of course so he hid behind the closest wall. Thankfully nobody was shot. Nobody was ever caught either that were aware of. But knowing how I felt getting those texts… I was not nearly as composed as those parents. I was sick to my stomach and kept randomly crying all day, even after they got out and were completely safe… It’s not something any parent should ever have to experience and I didn’t even go thru the worst of it.

I can sort of relate..when my son was 18 he worked as a volunteer firefighter in training to become a firefighter. I was traveling for business and was in the air so had my phone off.. when we landed at O’hare I turned my phone back on and I realized I had missed dozens of calls. This first one I listened to said this ‘this is Chaplain so and so with the Carroll county fire department your son has been involved in a fatal accident we need you to call us back please’. Like you I complained LOST it on the plane! We were being held on the tarmac for some reason and I was literally losing my mind. Thank God the Pilot somehow was able to get emergency clearance and they got me off pretty quickly. I was picked up at the gate and taken directly to a ticket agent who helped me get a return flight at no additional charge. It turns out, no one DIED in the accident my son was in. The 21 year old who was driving the Tanker and lost control was ejected and suffered a broken neck and they THOUGHT he wouldn’t make it, he was life flighted to Atlanta and made a complete recovery. My son was trapped in the wreckage and had to be cut out. He had thousands of gallons of water rush into the upside down cab washing broken glass, grit and all sorts of other debris into his mouth, nose, ears and eyes. He suffered a crushed left shoulder and broken left leg, his right arms was literally mangled where he had been holding on to the ‘Jesus’ handle when it rolled over onto its side and the windows shattered before going over an embankment and landing on its roof. He’s had to have multiple surgeries through the years and his dream of becoming a firefighter came to a screeching halt, but at least he’s safe and still with us.

As a parent I don’t think I could send my kids back to school. Justin God rest your soul. What a good friend to help protect this young man. After this happened every grandchild got bullets proof backpacks and cell phones. Even the little ones in first and second grade. Back when I was a kid we didn’t have backpacks. We had pencil boxes. We only practiced fire drills and earthquake drills. We were never afraid to go to school. In high school the guys drove pick up trucks to school and had a rack in their back windows with their shotguns. Nobody thought twice about shooting anyone. Now we are teaching my grandchildren things they are not old enough to truly comprehend. Practice after practice how to hold their back packs. Taught the little ones words to text and they are just learning to write. Then we have to teach them not only safety at school but about kidnapping. Even though we live states away Nathan’s actions has impacted so many people. My kids didn’t even grow up as children in these evil of times. I wish my grandkids could have the childhood I did. The absolute terror & horror that he AND his parents must have felt…and the relief of knowing he made it out alive. And then the guilt afterwards. Which they should NOT have to feel but prob did, or still do 😢
The guilt that poor kid must have felt/feels knowing that it could’ve been him who got shot, and not Justin. And the guilt his parents might’ve felt afterwards, after finding out that their son was the 1 out of the 2 of them in that bathroom who made it out…

I truly want to move to Canada and am seriously considering it. I feel like I always have to apologize to the rest of the world for the ignorance so many display here. Majority of Americans want stricter gun laws but unfortunately the Republicans party is owned by the NRA aka National Rifle Association so they refuse to pass ANY gun laws and in fact have in many Rep run states made it legal for people to own AND carry a gun anywhere without a permit!!! They refer to this as “constitutional carry!” So basically we have people who love to walk the streets open carrying AK-47’s just to scare people!! Then we have others who conceal carry so we basically never know who may have a gun & be hiding it!! It’s truly become frightening to go anywhere!! You can’t feel safe anywhere anymore!! I’d LOVE to live in beautiful NZ where people are sensible and care about their fellow citizens!! Honestly we had problems before but since Trump we’ve gone majorly downhill!! If he’s re-elected I’m out of here I know that much FOR SURE!!! No way we’ll make it through 4 more years of Trump!!!

The US looks more and more like a foreign third-world country to me, and decimated from the former President. I can only say I have been thankful Joe Biden has been in the White House for these years and hope he continues to serve. Democrats have tried to get gun legislation passed, which has always been thwarted by Republicans -- now simply the party in obeisance to Trump, who obviously controls the NRA as well. No one living there can go to work in the morning, thinking automatically he/she will be home in the evening. Because there could be a shooting, even in a small town. I heard 80,000 Americans moved to Canada last year because of gun violence.

Life without parole. I don't understand why criminals get the luxury of television, books, computers, education, etc.when they purposely ended lives that may have benefitted humanity in some positive way. Solitary confinement is more of a punishment to remind them every day of their victims.

    • @brandoncooke6564

Such flawed logic. First of all, there is arguably the same amount of potential for the defendant to be a person that later in life "benefitted humanity in some positive way", so throwing them in prison forever does no good either. That whole saying of "two wrongs don't make a right" rings pretty true here. It also works in the opposite way... One of the victims may be someone who would have turned into the worst serial killer in history or a pedophile or a drug trafficker, or even *yikes* a politician! The reason they have these "luxuries" is because we aren't barbarians. There is no benefit of cruel treatment of prisoners, except to give a twisted satisfaction to people who want to feel better about their life by watching others suffer. Ask any family member of a murder victim how they felt if they heard about or witnessed the execution of the person responsible for killing their loved one. They don't get closure or a sense of peace.

Man you’re always wildin with your comments. US Supreme Court has rightfully held juveniles cannot be given the death penalty. You think we should allow the execution of juveniles? If so, you better double check your ethics and morals.
Now life without parole is absolutely justified in this scenario, as allowed by law.

With public bathrooms, it would have been very helpful if you could have locked the door so no one else can get in. Because these bathrooms where you are supposed to feel safe leads to a dead end. If I remember right in my high school many years ago, you could lock the entire bathroom on the inside. Though if you did that, you'd piss everyone off that would have to use the bathroom especially by the cafeteria. When on lunch, they would heavily regulate the halls so you couldn't go and disrupt other classes. Where I went they had two lunch periods you either had lunch A or lunch B depending where your class was. They really need bathrooms where you can lock the entire door on the inside for emergency situations like this. Then at least more lives could have been saved.

I have witnessed and listened to many harrowing things in my life. As a child, I was exposed to “Faces of Death” 1-4 or 5. But this… this is one of the most terrifying, horrific things I’ve ever heard. Justice- for the students and victims of Oxford high school… is Ethan, his mother and father, going to prison. All of this… every second, was preventable. My daughter was a senior in high school in Macomb County Mi. The students 51 miles away, were terrified. I kept my child home the next day… that’s how far reaching this was.
My daughter was a student at MSU when the MSU shooting happened.
The thing all of these have in common… mental illness, and the lack of mental health care.
There’s a part of me, that is empathic with Ethan.. because he was so horribly ignored. A “dangerous precedent”? NOT PROSECUTING THE PARENTS IS THE DANGEROUS PRECEDENT. If you “don’t have time” to talk with your kids- MAKE TIME. Period.
