    Logan Evans just got moved to the bullpen today, and it’s reported that Jerry Dipoto told him he wants him pitching in the majors around the All-Star break. So the org thinks his stuff is at least good enough to do that.
    There have also been multiple quotes from Mariners execs saying that they picked him up largely because his raw stuff jumped out at them. His extension is great, his fastball is upper 90’s, and his slider gets 15” of movement, what more can you ask for?

      I hear you, I think he can be a back end starter and we said that on the show! But a lot of the things you said are unfortunately a bit off. He only gets 5.2 feet of extension, that is WELL below average (6.5 feet). Also the fastball averages 94.1 mph. There's also more that goes into a slider than horizontal movement.
      Again, I think you are totally correct that he has proven to the Mariners that he can be an option for them this year and he very well could be a solid back end starter, but I'd argue there's a few things you could ask for with Evans.

      @@TheCallUpPod Interesting, I heard both Jerry Dipoto and Justin Hollander say they loved his extension and that his fastball was upper 90’s so I just took it as fact without double checking. I can understand adding a few MPH to hype up your prospect but I wonder why they’d highlight something as specific as his extension if it’s not even average.

      @@TheCallUpPod Ok so I tried to find the interviews where Jerry and Justin mention his extension and couldn’t find anything. I think I Mandela-effected myself into thinking they said it because every news outlet seems to mention his “elite extension”, so now idk what’s real. I think I’ll leave the prospect analysis to the professionals before I go insane lol. Sorry for the misinformation.

      @@tjtribble. Haha no sweat man, you made a lot of really good points and to be honest, I have been too low on Logan Evans as well. The Mariners clearly love him which is the most important aspect of this whole thing at the end of the day. I just think they love him as a No. 4 type starter (That's quite valuable!!). Appreciate you watching and your perspective, which you are always welcome to share! I love these conversations. - Aram

    I have a couple suggestions for upcoming episodes , hopefully you guys see this comment
    1. A 2nd prospect mailbag since you guys just updated your top 100. That way you can get to more questions
    2. Talk about prospects that came into the Minors as high draft picks/high expectations that are really struggling and what you need to see from them going forward . I keep looking at Elijah Green, Jacob Berry, Kevin Parada. Guys like that have huge issues right now.

    Appreciate the work you guys do, compiling the top 100 and the mailbag that follows. The JBB show and Call Up help make my days at work go quicker listening to Jack, Aram and Peter talk ball all the time!

    Hey guys, there's a couple of arms in Japan not named Roki that are pretty good (Shumpeita Yamashita, Shoki Murakami, Ren Fukushima, Hiroya Miyagi) and another high contact kid in the KBO (Kim Do Yeong, or americanized as Do Yeong Kim). Where would any of them fit in prospect rankings if they were in MLB farm systems? I don't think most of these guys would be throwing at the MLB level quite yet, but some of them have stuff that could play. And Kim's stats, were they at AA ball, make me feel like he would be a top 50 prospect if he were stateside (600 PA across his last 2 seasons while batting over .300 and slugging over .500 as a 20 and 21 year old. 14 home runs in just 57 games so far this season).

    Mariners prospect system was violently underrated pre season and up until about a month ago, I think that’s where that Q came from

    Love your content and analysis guys, thanks for the great work!
    Do have to say, don't agree with De Paula's tools grades. 114 Max EV this year with a 94 avg at 19 is 60 power right now, potentially 70 considering the age, don't agree with the 55 grade considering the EVs
    This year hit tool has taken a bit of a step back but power is way up

    • @TheCallUpPod
      @TheCallUpPod  2 місяці тому

      Thank you! As for the DePaula grade, there's a lot more that goes into a power grade than just exit velocities. Swing path, launch angle, spin characteristics, approach all factor in. 70 grade game power implies 40+ homers. I see more 25-30 with big EVs that will help him carry a high BABIP and mix in plenty of doubles. Yandy Diaz is an extreme example, but that's high EVs but not plus game power.
