Hello Brian, thank you so much for doing this video. I have been trying to do the programming for the 230s for 2 days and it was driving me crazy. If it had not been for your video, I would have never been able to get through the programming/ setup for this heli, it was about to put me in the nut house! Thanks Brian and crew. The cat humor is so loved. I had to go look up Enrique's event as I had not seen it. Wow. Thx. What's fun is flying your heli like a plane Brian. Few things, one! Never used trims on a FBL heli, it will make it do some weird things. Two, put your modes on one switch. Meaning, normal is auto left bank angle limits, Idle two is just high head speed (around 70% use a flat throttle curve) Idle 2 100% throttle

@@BrianPhillipsRC Hi Brian, after i had my Blade 230S maiden 4 days ago, i started to build the kit. You talked about the "MicroHeli UH-1" kit, that is a complete mess with proportions and so on but i was talking about the "Heli Scale Quality UH-1" kit. You can find a video on yt if you copy this into the searchbar " Erstflug UH-1D 1:18 Heli Scale Quality Rumpf mit Blade 230S " It's not my video but there you can see how good looking this thing is. Just ignore the 1/18 in the video name, it's 1/24 scale
When I bound mine the instructions said to turn it upside down for 15 seconds So does the current manual. Did you not have to do that? Did I miss something?
eneral Binding Procedure 1. Refer the Transmitter Setup Table to correctly setup your transmitter. 2. Lower the throttle stick to the lowest position. Set all trims to the center position. 3. Power off the transmitter and move all switches to the 0 position. Move the throttle to the low/off position. 4. Install the bind plug in the receiver BIND/PROG port. 5. Connect the flight battery to the ESC. 6. Put the transmitter into bind mode while powering on the transmitter. Flip the model upside down and hold for 15s 7. Release the bind button/switch after 2-3 seconds. The helicopter is bound when the LED on the receiver turns solid. 8. Disconnect the flight battery and power the transmitter off.
Hello everyone and Happy New Year ! I just received the Blade 230S Smart BNF equipped with the AR6250MHXA. How to insert the Bind Plug association socket without dismantling everything? In addition, besides the fact that my fingers do not pass and that I do not see the plugs, a plug is already connected to the BIND plug ..... My radio is a Spektrum DX6 G2 EU. All have a happy new year 2022!
Yes Brian, bigger helicopters!! You can do it! The Blade 360 Fusion looks like an awesome BNF, if you don’t want to build a kit. I’m a big fan of helis with belt or shaft-driven tail rotors with adjustable pitch. There’s a consistent locked in feel that is hard to achieve with a motorized tail.
I have the M1/M2 that came with preloaded settings on Radiomaster Zorro. Will those settings work for the BNF version of this? Can't find any helicopter videos with setup on the Zorro and the generic Heli settings that come preloaded on the Zorro are way different than the preloaded M1/M2 settings.
Thanks for this video , I am trying to fly this on real flight 9.5s and programmed my NX10 by the book and could not fly it with out crashing ! I hope your video corrects the issues,
Can you go over your NX8 setup for the 230s? I have an NX8+...I imported the config from the internal storage, but I don't understand some of the switches that are in play, along with different modes & rates.
Brian, I went through all of settings and set them exactly like you did in this video but my 230s will not take off and fly level, it always wants to "roll over" to the right. I am very new to the RC world and could sure use some help. I have a Spektrum NX6. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.
Finally. After much searching. I found the answer to my question. Can safe be on with higher rpm and more aggressive pitch as opposed to the rtf that gives one of 3 flight modes in safe auto level. I ordered a bnf. Thank you 🙏🏻.

Iv followed your vid. Iv followed the book but when I press the bind button my heli does not react. My panic doesn’t work and I could find in your video where you set it up. Help anybody ?? Please thanks
Radio setup is at the end of the video. You have to do the WHOLE SETUP... Did you by chance do the FORWARD PROGRAMMING ??? Where you activate SAFE? Try that first.
Hi Brian. Great video as always.... I have the RTF version with the DXs And a friend has the BnF. Can I bind my DXs TX to his BnF heli and makes it work? We haven't try it yet is we live far from each other and have not got together to try it. Thank you in advance!
Thank you for the awesome videos and information I've learned so much from watching. I just got the blade 230S smart version last week and want to do a trim flight for it. All of the videos on UA-cam show putting the left stick down and to the left and the right stick up and to the left and then hitting the panic button. Is that for the older v2 version only?My manual does not have that step involved so I'm not sure if horizon left it out as I heard they're known for that lol. I've tried contacting them with no luck and was wondering if you knew the correct procedure for the newest smart version. Thank you 😊
Hi Brian The radio that comes with the Blade 230 S (DXs) do you know if it is in mode1 or 2 out of the box as i fly in mode 2 with my planes. I have just jointed a club that flies only helis if it is mode 1 how do I change it over to mode 2.thanks Eddie
Hey Brian, do you know if the "panic button" works in idle up 1 and idle up 2 or does it only work in Normal mode ? Thanks buddy, i totally a newbie to heli's. Ive been flying rc planes for almost 5 years.
I know this video is 6 months old but maybe you can remember...I set up by the manual like you did with my NX8 radio but my GEAR channel is set to f-mode and you did B switch it did still fly though. Now my question, I can only get stability or safe to acuate on one flite mode as in FLITE MODE 3. It wont even bring up the other two. I'm not ready for the highest rate yet and was hoping I could get SAFE or STABILITY to operate on the intermediate mode and the advanced mode. I don't think you need it in the NORMAL MODE. So... NORMAL MODE (no need for SAFE)---- F-MODE 2 INTERMEDIATE MODE (SAFE) -- FLITE MODE 3 AGILITY MODE (SAFE) I know you go through FORWARD PROGRAMMING and go to stability but it only offers one mode. THOUGHTS???? Thanks in advance
YES, SAFE is only going to work on the LOWER (simple - NON- Idle Up) This is normal, I'm confirming again with the most recent heli we just did, the 150S (same thing) 330S (same as well, fyi). ...SO, no, you're not doing anything wrong that I can see. Just be 100% sure you KNOW where the "SAFE" mode is and if you're okay with it in that mode. Make 100% sure your THROTTLE HOLD is working!!!! This is very critical, and don't want you to be sending me nasty pictures of your chopped up hands (people REALLY do this from time to time - gross!)
@@BrianPhillipsRC HAHA ok no gross pics...another question I hope you can answer. With planes I'm pretty sure you can't TRIM IT OUT in the safe mode. My experience is trim out of safe to get the best result. Nowthen, to perform a TRIM FLITE on the Blade 230 do you have to be in one of the stunt modes and not in the SAFE or NORMAL MODE??
Excellent video, thank you! I was wondering which Spektrum charger would you suggest to someone who has three batteries (G2, 850mah, 11.1volt) ? I currently have a portable S120 charger and it requires 2 hours to charge each battery....
I still say, S2200 bit.ly/398ohO6 - then you need some adapters, or need to build some adapters to plug in the smaller IC2 connectors to the IC3 - Accessories bit.ly/30i7Biq
You had me at "Wanna see a cat get hit by a helicopter". A man of my own humor. Did ya ever notice good helo pilots are obsessed with telling people they are not a good pilot? If you can fly a helo without stabilization then you are a good pilot. It takes a lot of work to get there
Hello Brian, great video, thank you very much. I own the same combination as you: Blade 230S Smart RTF and a Spektrum NX8 on top. I've done the programming of the NX8 acc. to the manual and double-checked it twice. On my first flight and after about one minute in normal mode the tail rotor made the heli spin about 90deg and then throttle was gone and the heli "landed", luckily on gras and only from 1,5m flight altitude. I checked and restartet the heli, but the same situation / problem after about one minute again. When binding the heli to the RFT-radio DXs everthing was fine, not any issues or problems at all. I had exactly the same situation with my Nano S3 and my 120 S2: Tail rotor spin and "landing" after about one minute of flight time, but no problems at all when using their RTF-radios. So my question is: Did you edit or adjust any parameters on your NX8 or did you just the standard BNF-programming acc. to the manual? Thank you very much in advance. Best regards, Markus.
Glad you got lucky on those spins! I've seen some heli's do some weird things. These Horizon Hobby heli's have been pretty good, except when you're low on altitude and try to flip into SAFE mode, not allowing the heli enough time to react... As for what I did or didn't do on radio setup, we filmed that whole part. I honestly setup hundreds of these aircraft and can't remember. You can scan to the end of the video to answer your question, but it's NOT the downloaded BNF profile, for sure...we don't ever do that.
@@BrianPhillipsRC Dear Brian, thank you very much for your fast answer. I´m only an absolute beginner reg. heli-flight (12x 4 minutes of flight time) and therefore I´m only flying in normal mode (with SAFE). Until now, I´ve only tried idle-up 1 for some seconds finding out I have to learn the basics in normal mode first. I know this may sound stupid to experts, but I want to avoid crashing a 300€ heli just by oversetimating my skills.
Hi, I am posting this comment hoping to get some help. I recently bought the Blade 230S Smart (BLH 1250) and I am trying to set it up with my DX6e Transmitter. However, when I get to the F-Mode Setup (35 into your video), my transmitter only displays Switch 1 and Hold Switch...I am not seeing Switch 2. Can anyone assist? BTW I am relatively new to this.
LOL - I think my some of our cats might be a little wacky...they also like to kinda jump out in front of us when we're riding up and down the driveway on our bikes and scooters - LOL!!!
You can bind it, but not sure how the forward programming works on the older DX6'es - you'll have to update the firmware for sure, if it's going to work.
I'm so glad I can watch you set up your Blade 230s with your NX8! I tried months ago with my DX6 but it gave me a headache and I gave up!!Now I have an NX6 and a DXS that came with my AeroScout S 2 1.1m. I am not ready to try again with my NX6 so can I bind my Blade 230s to the DXS that came with the AeroScout S 2 1.1m RTF with no problems? I know you are swamped with other you tubers but can you reply ASAP so I can finally fly my helicopter? Thank you !!
You can make a profile for the Blade 230S in that DXS, believe it or not! I know, it's a STRANGE process, and I didn't ever actually "do it" since when I flew my 230S on the DXS, it was as an out of box RTF - the good news, you can follow the procedure pretty much step by step to make a "model" in your DXS - it actually stores up to 5 heli's and 5 planes in the onboard memory!!! Nobody ever does it, that I know of, and Not 100% sure how to do any of it, but the newer DXS's are supposed to do this, and there is a builtin from Horizon Hobby on how to do it. ...THAT BEING SAID, just do it on the NX6 and you'll be able to pretty much do JUST like I did (only I used the NX8...ALMOST exactly the same procedure). The NX6 is AMAZING for this heli! Make sure you're firmware is up to date for the best experience, but even the oldest should give you access to FORWARD PROGRAMMING so you can activate SAFE ;)
Hello Brain/Pilots I had recently brought this from a forum and the rx was dead and now its costing like 99 pounds, does any one know of other cheaper alternatives. Thank you
Hi Brian and what a awesome video as always. I have a quick question for you because Im setting this heli up with my dx6 and it cant do forward programming like you did to enable safe so before I try it I just wondering how I setup safe on my dx6 or will it work as it is? Also the channel input config on ch 5 gear it says flightmode but you did the B switch instead. Should I do the same as you there to? I have done the programming excactly according to your setup but before I lift off I just want to be sure that safe is activated. Best regards Pierre 😃
Hi Bryan. Thanks a lot for the awesome video. I'm super new to the whole rc thing and just got the blade 230s bnf and paired it up with my NX8, thanks to your nice video. I tried to connect the battery for the first time after inserting the bind plug and I hear beeps and see red and orange lights flashing on the receiver. Is this normal? Did I do something wrong, your guidance to fix this would be very helpful. Thank you
I think you might still be in BIND MODE. Have you bound it yet? If not, you'll need to actually BIND it, then this flashing will stop, and you'll get a solid light. Give it a try. Make sure you have your throttle hold on!!! ;)
@@BrianPhillipsRC Thanks a ton for the quick response. I just bound it without issues. I freaked out for no reason lol. One more question please. I hear occasional spark kind of sounds (like honeybee flying around). I'm guessing it's the batter trying to adjust? Thanks again
I’ve crashed my Blade 230s 3 times and little damage. Replacing a few parts today. Always good thing to have spare parts. just checked and didn’t have safe activated. Thanks for the info Brian!! Now I should be able to fly it without crashing 💥.
Brian, you can do a family challenge put a target on the ground and see how can land closest to the center. This may help you with controlling the heli.
If you get the RTF, you'll just some patience, and a USB adapter...the AA's come in the package ;) If you get the BNF, there's a bit more needed. Looks like Rc Aviator made some suggestions too. My suggesting would be...don't fly it upside-down till you're ready ;) LOL

Bryan this was a very excellent video don't get me wrong. Punk. But I don't know if you are aware the NX8 has pre programmed airplanes and hellies in it. I forget exactly where it's at but if I had my radio in front of me I could go right to it. Do it. Look through your radio and there are some preprogrammed over a 100 planes in hell's already in the radio and the 230S is one of them. I have used this to preprogram my Draco . The rc10gt red and white ready to run was my baby. I have only parts now. Crashed and blew up engine twisted frame. 27mhz lol. I have been trying to find one in mint condition.
Nice - so back in the day where you had to add a SPEED CONTROLLER to go backward - I had an RC10 too ;)
Few things, one! Never used trims on a FBL heli, it will make it do some weird things. Two, put your modes on one switch. Meaning, normal is auto left bank angle limits, Idle two is just high head speed (around 70% use a flat throttle curve) Idle 2 100% throttle
That's what we did on there...I was incorrect in a few things I said - LOL (Weird, I know - LOL) I found that the DR/Expo was over on F and on B was Just like you said.
I've been practicing and getting way more used to it, and loving it. In fact, we have another coming too, when they come back in stock...stay tuned for that one.
Also, you mentioned a TRIM FLIGHT... I'm still a bit confused on how to do it. I'll do some more investigation to make sure I can adequately explain it in a future video.
@@BrianPhillipsRC add voice to your switches so you are reminded what the switch does.
I got a couple of fibreglass canopys from micro heli they're really nice.
Nice! I hear they make a good product
The word spazz comes to mind for some reason when watching Brian.
After finishing my VF-31 Tomcatters paintjob for the e-flite F-14, i will now go for this heli and turn it into a UH-1D :D
I've seen that kit, and it is SWEEEEEET, but three blade tail rotor GOTTA GO for scale looks, right???
When I bound mine the instructions said to turn it upside down for 15 seconds
So does the current manual. Did you not have to do that? Did I miss something?
I never did that, but I didn't see it in the manual either...not that I was reading the whole thing...I was just looking at the BNF Setup chart.
eneral Binding Procedure
Flip the model upside down and hold for
15s
You have a BIND BUTTON. Please watch the Radio Setup part of this video, and I show how to do it ;)
@@BrianPhillipsRC the bind port is glued at left side of the frame :-)
Yes Brian, bigger helicopters!! You can do it! The Blade 360 Fusion looks like an awesome BNF, if you don’t want to build a kit. I’m a big fan of helis with belt or shaft-driven tail rotors with adjustable pitch. There’s a consistent locked in feel that is hard to achieve with a motorized tail.
Right on - we have another Heli coming, as soon as they're off backorder ;)
I have the M1/M2 that came with preloaded settings on Radiomaster Zorro. Will those settings work for the BNF version of this? Can't find any helicopter videos with setup on the Zorro and the generic Heli settings that come preloaded on the Zorro are way different than the preloaded M1/M2 settings.
Thanks for this video , I am trying to fly this on real flight 9.5s and programmed my NX10 by the book and could not fly it with out crashing ! I hope your video corrects the issues,
I loath simulators for Heli's, but only because they only point out my need for more practice :)
any tips on tail wag suggestion's in forward programing ? just seems like the tail has to much gain
I haven't yet figured it out, but I'm just not a super expert on heli's :(
Can you go over your NX8 setup for the 230s? I have an NX8+...I imported the config from the internal storage, but I don't understand some of the switches that are in play, along with different modes & rates.
Brian, I went through all of settings and set them exactly like you did in this video but my 230s will not take off and fly level, it always wants to "roll over" to the right. I am very new to the RC world and could sure use some help. I have a Spektrum NX6. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.
The first one I got didn't have the emblem on the windshield. Didn't have safe ether.
Finally. After much searching. I found the answer to my question. Can safe be on with higher rpm and more aggressive pitch as opposed to the rtf that gives one of 3 flight modes in safe auto level. I ordered a bnf. Thank you 🙏🏻.
Safe can be turned on in any or all of the modes, from what I understand.
@@BrianPhillipsRC seems that’s what you demonstrated. Lol. I like to have it so I can rip around. But I also work on my right stick training with it off. That is with my nano s3. I’m only 29 min this vid. Great vid so far. I have it on my tv.
Should be able to bind up to any DSM2/DSMX tx.
Mine was mode 2.
Like the video wish I could come over and fly with you keep doing the video 😊
We've had people come over and fly more than a few times ;)
Hey Brian, do you know if the "panic button" works in idle up 1 and idle up 2 or does it only work in Normal mode ? Thanks buddy, i totally a newbie to heli's. Ive been flying rc planes for almost 5 years.
Bought the bind and fly because I got the dxs transmitter. What do I do to make sure safe is active.
Can you bind this too a JR 12X radio. I’m old school.
Cool!
Great video Brian. I had to watch it 4Xs ..
What hand tools do I need to buy for the heli? Thanks
So... NORMAL MODE (no need for SAFE)---- F-MODE 2 INTERMEDIATE MODE (SAFE) -- FLITE MODE 3 AGILITY MODE (SAFE)
I know you go through FORWARD PROGRAMMING and go to stability but it only offers one mode. THOUGHTS????
Thanks in advance
YES, SAFE is only going to work on the LOWER (simple - NON- Idle Up)
This is normal, I'm confirming again with the most recent heli we just did, the 150S (same thing) 330S (same as well, fyi).
...SO, no, you're not doing anything wrong that I can see.
@@BrianPhillipsRC
HAHA ok no gross pics...another question I hope you can answer.
@@BrianPhillipsRC thank you Sir 👍
Thanks Brian, subscribed!!
Welcome! Glad you're here with us, and so much more content - you might need a few years to get caught up ;)
When flying Helis, I have my timer setup to stop at 0 throttle.. so it's not counting down.
Yeah, "One out" might not make sense for the heli.
You had me at "Wanna see a cat get hit by a helicopter". A man of my own humor. Did ya ever notice good helo pilots are obsessed with telling people they are not a good pilot? If you can fly a helo without stabilization then you are a good pilot. It takes a lot of work to get there
I'm definitely NOT a good pilot then ;)

230s, looks like fun, here we go
It sure is!
Brian can this heli be set up on a nx6 .Eddie
Should be okay. Might need to update your firmware.
HI BRIAN can you get the omp m2 for review or m1
I can try ;)
I also LOVE the 🐈⬛. My cats don’t like any helis. My one neighbors cat is intrigued by my nano and will approach it if I land. Lol.
LOL - I think my some of our cats might be a little wacky...they also like to kinda jump out in front of us when we're riding up and down the driveway on our bikes and scooters - LOL!!!
Can I bind this to my dx6 or do I need the new dx6
@@BrianPhillipsRC Thanks Brian, your the best!!!
Hello Brain/Pilots
I had recently brought this from a forum and the rx was dead and now its costing like 99 pounds, does any one know of other cheaper alternatives.
Thank you
I don't. Heli Rx'es are crazy expensive!!! Have you considered getting a new heli, and keeping that one you got cheaper for spare parts?
Hi Brian and what a awesome video as always.
I have a quick question for you because Im setting this heli up with my dx6 and it cant do forward programming like you did to enable safe so before I try it I just wondering how I setup safe on my dx6 or will it work as it is?
Also the channel input config on ch 5 gear it says flightmode but you did the B switch instead. Should I do the same as you there to?
I have done the programming excactly according to your setup but before I lift off I just want to be sure that safe is activated.
Best regards Pierre 😃
Can you update FIRMWARE to get Forward Programming??? Try this FIRST. You might NEED it (regrettably)
@@BrianPhillipsRC ok.. Awesome I will try that..thanx 😃👍
Hi, from the UK here, do you prefer the 230 S than the Eachine E 180?
Yes. I prefer the 230S in RTF or BNF. Also, I'm doing another Horizon Hobby Heli in the next few weeks, if all goes to plan ;)
HI BRIAN DID YOU USE THE BIND AND FLY PROGRAM IR DID YOU SET IT UP YOURSELF SIR?
I set it up following the manual,. It's in this video ;)
You should review the mcpx bl2 and the 360

It would seem to me it would be easier to fly planes right? Lol I still enjoyed the review and video. By the way great job on the driveway.
Depends on your background....but Heli's are typically harder to fly.
SAFE is your Friend!
Sure is!!!
Brian, you can do a family challenge put a target on the ground and see how can land closest to the center. This may help
you with controlling the heli.
Sure I do that anyway ;) It's just in my head, so only I can tell if I actually hit it - LOL ;)
LoL, gonna order one of these now. Thx Dr Feelgood you fine it again.
PS. Is there anything extra that I need to buy? Blades? Stuff like that?
@@mattcook5302 Yes, I would definately buy blades, a main shaft, and a feathering shaft, in case. Maybe even some pitch links.
Probably never get it upside down. Never flown a heli before. Complete noob on this one. I'll have to try the SIM when I get home this weekend
Just ordered, got the complete night light set also. LoL

And it worked excellent.
Did you call me "Punk"?
