- More speeds isn't always better. In this video we explain the tradeoffs involved in adding more gears, and why we decided to use 10 speeds on our flagship ADVENT X mountain bike group.
I just love clarity in education! And no bs and overly fancy tech language!
Advent X is exactly what I’m looking for!
Thank you for amazing post
Microshift is a competition we need in the word of ever-growing number of gears, electronic shifting and less and less cross compatibility. Keep up the good work guys 👍
Microshift keep this guy's I been watching him almost 6 years. clear and simple explanation
I installed this on a 2013 Cannondale Trigger and whilst I had a few issues getting it fine tuned (correction of derailleur hanger alignment and b screw adjustment) it is now beautifully smooth to shift. Easily on par with XT in terms of shift feel. Outstanding value for money
I have adventX on two of my bikes, my 1999 Homegrown 4 Banger and my Schwinn Jaguar, its such a great drivetrain! Its smooth enough with the clutch off for normal riding, and it has very little chain slap and crisp shifts with the clutch on! I love the products yall are putting out! Keep it up!
Totally correct. Resilient, reliable and just gives you confidence. (I have 10, 11 and 12 speed MTB). The AdventX is my go to.
I love the Advent X and prefer it over my 12 speed! Good job Microshift and thank you 👏
I have the AdventX drivetrain on my Marin Kentfield 2, and I LOVE IT!
40 miles onto mine and I am absolutely loving it. Like any new drivetrain it took a few miles to get it adjusted but once I got it dialed in I haven’t had to touch it since. Love the feel of the shifter and that’s saying something since I am coming from an XTR 11-speed shifter. Would absolutely recommend this system.
Recently had Advent X group set installed on my bike and love it. Far better than my 11 spd Box 1 (now not supported) that was quite clunky in shifting. Feels/ shifts like a proper shifter. Should be interesting to see how it feels next season with a full Bikepacking kit; maybe a shade less hike-a-bikes?
I have the Advent X groupset on my Marin Kentfield 2 hybrid. I LOVE IT! Not only is the range of gearing excellent (11-48 teeth and 22-96 gear-inches); the jumps between gears are perfect too. At some point in the future, I may convert my Fuji MTB, which has a Shimano 3x8 drivetrain; with the HG hubs, the AdventX cassette would slide right on-no muss, no fuss. If I do the conversion, the AdventX will be the drivetrain I install.
That Kentfield is a cool bike, I'd ride the heck out of one of those.
@@microSHIFTTECH that's EXACTLY what I'm planning to do once winter goes away here! It's not that I've totally stopped riding in the cold weather; I've done some of that. I just don't want to get road salt residue on my new Kentifled 2. My Fuji MTB is my "beater" bike, so I'm using that for the time being. Once the possibility of snow is gone; once the road salt is washed off the roads; then I'll be riding my Kentfield 2 a lot. I can see it being the bike I grab most often.
The Kentfield 2 offers the best of both worlds from my MTBs and my vintage road bikes; it can do bike paths, canal towpaths, city streets, and I think it could do some bike packing too. It offers the speed of a road bike with the ride of a MTB; i.e. it has the upright comfort of a MTB, and it doesn't jolt you riding over the smallest crack in the pavement pavement. Marin has a real WINNER in the Kentfield 2... 😀😀
@ if you have space for one, you should get it. You'll be glad you did!
Hope to see this product on more and more bikes. I put the 9 speed advent w/ clutch on a 1993 Stumpjumper and I love it. I’ll be putting the advent x on my fat bike for the winter.
I have the AdventX on my Marin Kentifeld 2 hybrid, and I LOVE IT!
I’ve been using advent 9 speed for 2 years, the mileage is more than 7000 km, everything works perfectly, I tightened the clutch once, I especially like the gear shift, but it reminds me of something like a gearbox on a sports car, rigid, clear, and with a special sound)
I have to admit.
Seeing kids of 12+ years ride their 500-600 decathlon bikes with this reliable and easy to use system is an true gamechanger.
Let's be fair bikes in this price range were always harder to use triples. For those kids the simplicity and reliability is truly changing their experience.
This helps fuel their enthusiasm for the sport.
Which i can see daily at our local kids loop.
That said i wouldn't upgrade an bike to Advent X.
Shimano also did an excellent job with their Deore 10 and 11 speed drivetrains.
But somehow major brand bikes featuring those groupsets are being sold 400 euro's over the price of those rockriders.
The groupset price difference is only 40 euro's (apples to apples Advent X vs M4100)
Obviously there are more differences but they don't add to 360 euro's.
So either you are giving these excellent groupsets away to OEM's or the consumer retail margins are a bit off.
Pricing questions are interesting. We can only control what we sell our products for, not what our customers sell them for. Every bike brand has a different margin structure and different economies of scale based on their size. So, they'll price things in ways that might not be intuitive.
At the end of the day, our goal is to make every bike ride better, not just high-end bikes. So we're just as happy as you to see kids riding good bikes with a real drivetrain.
@@microSHIFTTECH Thanks for the answer, and i can say that your companies mission of making kids rides better is a succes in my local area. We will probably get some kid bikes in our rental fleet later with your company products looking at our 2 brands.
I will say this. Advent -> Shimano anything under Deore by an big margin.
Just got mine and cant wait to try it , the whole package cost me 300$ cad and thats with a race face chainring. The cassette is super light compared to the sram sx i had before. Should have it set up tomorrow and ready to ride .
I love it.... i didn't expect that good shifting .
Simplicity, durability, low maintenance, this is the way to go. Bravo.
Is there a comparison video between Advent 9 and Advent X? I ask in order to eventually upgrade our Advent 9 to Advent X. What benefit we would have upgrading? Thanks!
A comparison video is a great idea, we'll add it to the list. The short answer is that ADVENT X is quite a bit lighter and has a slightly wider gear range than ADVENT (11-48 vs 11-46). Other than that they have the same clutch design, similar shifter options, and similar derailleur architectures.
what shimano derailleur would you say is most comparable to the Advent X?
I love my 10s advent x
I think bigest disadvantage of advent x and xle is cable rounting to the side of road shifter and maybe proprietary cable pull in advent x. But cable from side i very dissapointing. Btw i love my 10s xle groupset.
Side routing makes adjustments on the move ideal in my opinion.
@@richardmiller-qp8tb u can use inline barrel adjuster for this purpose and why would you need to adjust so often anyway😅
I was leaning toward this ... but you have convinced me.
Awesome! Ring up another sale, baby! I hope you love it.
I hope more manufacturers drop down to 10 speed. I think smart gear steps with your range makes a ton of sense.
YES! I have the AdventX groupset on my Marin Kentfield 2 hybrid. This is the first bike I've owned with a 1x drivetrain. Prior to this, I was totally anti 1x; give me a 2x or 3x any day of the week. However, after trying it, I like it. The gear range is excellent; it has 11-48 teeth, which translates to 22-96 gear inches. Moreover, the spacing between the gears is excellent too. You know how when you downshift going uphill, you lose momentum? The new lower gear is perfect for the momentum lost; it's perfect for my cadence. Upshifting doesn't involve too big a jump either. I LOVE this drivetrain!
This is the way
Love it.
12 and 11 speed is marketing bullshit. Every seasoned rider always uses the same 4 to 5 cassette cogs 90% of their time riding. That means buying expensive drive trains that offer more spread is usless. Shimano is now equipping a lot of entry-level bikes with Deore 10 speed and Cues 9 speed. I have been riding a 10-speed casette with an XT shimano derailleur, and the performance and forgiveness are crazy good.
I'm happy that Microshift is sticking to basics.
Would be cool if I could get the Advent X in silver or bare aluminum, the black kind of looks odd when retrofitting some older bikes.
It's a good idea. We have gone away from a lot of silver parts because the polishing process is less environmentally friendly, but a flatter bare aluminum look could be cool.
Keeping priorities! 👊
Would love to see this offered in silver as well as black.
Please bring back 2x10. In most riding disciplines, having two chainrings on the crankset is very useful. 99% of cyclists are not racers.
We will, we promise!
On a mountain bike?
Yes, not every bike with a MTB drivetrain is used as a MTB.
@@Lee-ic2ynfor gravel bikes
Can I use the adventx cassette with a Shimano derailleur?
If the derailleur is compatible with an 11-48T range, then yes.
I didn’t know about the alignment and dirt issue.
Is the chain width and space between gears on advent 9 speed also wider than on advent x 10 speed or are they the same?
Chain width on 9 speed is wider.
Agree with you for trail/enduro bike but not for an XC bike.
Hello and thanks for the awesome products! I want to put the advent x on my 18 rm slayer. What's the best way for me to switch from XD to HG?
Most (but not all) hubs have a replaceable freehub body. Check your hub brand and see if a new body is available.
What does the OE mean in the two choices of Advent X?
Sorry for the late reply! It means original equipment, which is just another way to say stuff that comes on complete bikes.
i cant see your products on shopee or lazada.
Our distributors might not have put them up on those sites yet. We want our products to be available to everyone that wants to buy them, so we'll work on it.
Hello there!
Is the Advent X compatible with a 2-by crankset?
Thanks in advance!
I have their 11-48 10 speed cassette on a 2x 36/26 system. Deore F and R derailleurs. Everything works finer. I have 16 to 96 inch gear range on a 29er. Can get around the mountains around here on old legs.
@@ifc2000 Thanks for responding, eh mate!
@@ifc2000 I'm thinking of the following for my transmission set-up:
Advent X RD, cassette, & shifter
Shimano Deore 2x FD & shifter
FSA Comet 2x (24T, 38T) crankset
I'm thinking that set-up will give me enough gear ratios to bike for speed & easier ascending for my XC-oriented mtb.
If it's not too much to ask of you, do you think it will work?
Thanks in advance, my mate!
@@yengsabio5315 You might have problems with RD capacity. (38-24) + (48-11) = 51 teeth. I don't think many RD have that even with a Wolftooth hanger extender. Most are 43 teeth. I picked my setup, (36-26) + (48-11) = 47 teeth because it's the max for Deore with the Wolftooth.
Does 10 speed support Brompton P series?
I don't believe so, they've got their own proprietary system.
are they still compatible with shimano 10 speed shifters? Or do they use a different pull ratio?
Sorry for the late reply! They use a slightly different pull ratio, although I have heard of people getting them to work with very precise setup.
Okay, why did MicroSHIFT move away from 11-speed (the XCD, XLE, and Centos groups)?
We wanted to focus on something that Shimano and SRAM didn't offer. Like it says in the video, there are some advantages to 10 speed, and we wanted to give folks options.
@microSHIFTTECH Cool. I'm just planning out building an ebike, and I had come across some XCD and XLE and other MicroSHIFT group sets for sale, and was wondering when I saw them listed as legacy products. I'm actually indifferent - my MTB is old school 8x3. 10x1 doesn't bother me any. In fact, I'm pretty sure I'm going to give MicroSHIFT a go on this bike. Thanks for the info.
Do you need a micro shift chain
Nope, almost every brand of 10 speed chain will work well except Campagnolo.
please make it available globally, here in Indonesia this product is still scarcely available
Kona lava dome 2021 woth microshift advent 9 speed clutch medium derauilleur! Awesome performance though the cassette is being eaten so fast i dont even put efford on it
I have the same. It works very well.
@@komoonkh yeah i know it shifts smoothly and stuff but it torns all 3 of my cassettes for a reason
Mhm mhm mhm
So it’s like new old Shimano and only goes on HG hubs .
