The competition is to make a tasty meal in 20 minutes with the ingredients in the basket. This is my personal opinion but as a judge of this show your job is to be able to taste the food and deside is it good, were the ingredients used well, was it executed well etc. I dont think you should be a judge if youre going to have an issue with some raw onion. The chefs have enough to focus on then to have to cater to each chefs pallet. This isnt the next food network star or master chef where the challenge is to impress the judges. I always felt this show was about the food more then the judges. for example i enjoy raw onion. Im also a cook and i would also have used raw onion in the way this chef did.
the purpose of chopped, from my understanding, is to critique dishes based on technique, creativity, and presentation. personal preference over ingredients should not sway a judge's opinion, or tell the chefs what they can and cannot use. if you don't enjoy such a staple component of a vast array of dishes, then why the hell are you even a food critic? why are you even a judge? if you're going to act like such a douchebag, then you don't deserve your position or status.

The contestant came off as arrogant, not sticking up for himself. Raw red onion is a powerful flavor; it can easily over power a dish. This guy didn’t listen, and in the end it cost him, he was chopped. (And deserved it)
The judge is tool and has no right to be on the judges panel. They should have just used a child to judge if the guy is going complain about a contestant using an ingredient that is available in the kitchen. The judge said that “we don’t like it”, yet he was the only one that complained and is speaking for the other judges (at least in the final edit). Just because you don’t like something, doesn’t mean everyone else feels the same way.

Also, the female Hispanic chef also used raw red onion with her lentils dish. So he let both of them have it. The judges aren't only judges, they are a version of a guest.
