Do you realize that when Waylon was singing this song to his wife, at the same time The Sex Pistols were also tearing up every place they went. For all the praise heaped on Waylon in this thread, no one mentions the dude was a whiskey-drinking, coke-snorting handful, particularly during his "Outlaw" days in the from the 70s into the 80s. They were married for over 30 years when Waylon passed, and many of those were financially tough as his daily, multi-gram cocaine use threatened to bankrupt the family's finances. It takes a lotta love for a marriage to survive such travails, which in my estimation makes Jessi eligible for spousal sainthood.There's more to the tale, but the rest will have to be researched by those interested in additional details.

      She didn't tame or save him as much as she tolerated him...

    • @That_AMC_Guy
      @That_AMC_Guy Рік тому +4

      @@davidh6818 I honestly don't think he'd have lived as long as he did without her, and especially after they had Shooter together. Perhaps because Shooter's real name is Waylon Albright, and about that time, Jessi threatened Waylon with divorce; he not only tried his best to be a good father to Shooter, but also to set an example for his son. Waylon weaned himself off the drugs, leaned up on the booze.... even earned his GED at 60(!) to set an example for his boy.
      I dunno what Jessi said to him, but she certainly put the fear of God into him.

      All I know, is that when I met him when I was 3 or 4, he trucked me around in his arms and was up to that point, the happiest man I had ever met. Apparently, I reminded him of "Shooter" (Shooter and I are virtually the same age).
      We have some ancient Polaroids of me, as a tyke, in Waylon's arms wearing his hat over my head.
      Story goes I didn't want to be handed back to my own dad! LOL

    Had the unexpected pleasure of having Waylon & Jerry Bridge’s, his mgr & lead guitar on my flights both ways..so genuinely friendly. He came to our town and offered us free tickets and back stage passes, did the same for my Dad in Idaho, enjoyed the preview of his last concert, which was taped and shown in Liepers Fork, Tenn..Still friends with the Bridge’s family. So down to earth. They still perform with members of the band.
