- Bike ride with my Fiancée from Torksey in Lincolnshire to Rampton via the Torksey Viaduct. I mounted my camera to my helmet this time although I need to adjust the angle in future. I also have a new camera, it was a Christmas gift so hopefully my next video will be of better quality. This ride was nice and relaxed, we covered a distance of 6.2 miles in an hour, with a lovely view of the former Cottam coal power station. I think it would make a much nicer walk than a bike ride however, it was still delightful.
Torksey Viaduct is the oldest wrought iron box girder bridge in England and was built in 1849. It ceased to be used in 1959 with the closure of the railway, but was reopened to the public as a footbridge in 2016.
Cottam power station was commissioned in 1968 and decommissioned in 2019 and is currently being demolished. Cottam is not far from the West Burton power station where my grandfather worked from its opening in 1966 until his retirement around 17 years ago. This power station was decommissioned in 2023 and is currently being demolished to make way for an experimental STEP nuclear fusion power generation plant.
