By the grace of God I was in the Monday Bible study in Block 12, flat 2 UNILAG the day Pastor Kumuyi, then Brother as he was then called told us the disadvantages of television, referred to as the devil's 👿 box. I completely agreed then and even today I still reason along that point after after 47 years. He was absolutely right then and today. Because it takes the grace of God and total surrender to God and His words in Romans 12v1-2 to be able to take absolute control of yourself over the addiction of all social media screens. Many Christians today are 100%addicted to worldly programs, even football 🏈 than getting stick to the word of God. God bless Pastor W F Kumuyi and keep him till the very end. Maranatha
Sincerely speaking, Pastor Kumuyi is right on the matter of watching tv but it's hard to believe. Recently, my wife said, whenever she picked up her phone to read Bible, she discovered that she must have spent 5hrs doing something else either watching African Magic or other things etc..., instead of reading her Bible. Secondly, sitting before the television, you can only get up unless nepa takes light and you pick your Bible. However, I also discovered that after nepa must have taken the light, people still try to search for the title of the African Magic movie they are watching before on their phones. Can you see any reason with Pastor Kumuyi? We misunderstood the concept and the addiction attached to media technologies generally. Now as we speak, I've been in the church severally and seen elderly people sitting next to me and around me, watching Facebook with full attention, and even sending messages while the sermon was going on. Let me shock you more, the person browsing Facebook was a pastor's wife (not the senior pastor, but one of the pastors). Things are happening. Remember that Apostle Paul too does say some things and would say, "it's his opinion". Just to keep our focus and not to shift attention from Jesus Christ. Attention shifters are so many now. May God help us in Jesus' name.

By the way, Jesus says if your eyes would cause you to lose heaven, pluck it out, and if it's your hand, cut it off... While the Lord is obviously not saying to literally take out your body parts, we can use this as a yardstick to measure if we have resisted evil enough. And to me, based on my little understanding of the Christ's teachings, there is nothing that is too special or too big to give up because of Christ. Beyond the back and forth, I think the intention is what matters most. Papa Kumuyi wanted people to be always heavenly minded and do away with corruptible devices. He stated that they are administrative rules, I think I get it now. Seeing as time has changed, and there's access everywhere he decided to let it be but continually warn against dangerous sites and channels. He's not laying down laws because he believes he can, but it more for the spiritual benefits of the members.
All that the Pastor is after is to see that we all live our lives to please God in total holiness such that when we depart in turns ( by death) and we arrive at the Gate of Heaven, we will scale through and we will not be disqualified or turn away from the Beautiful Gate!
My pains over this is mostly lot of damages,lost and death with use of ancient law instead to have been corrected then and now people are enjoying the freedom of another's pains .this is unforgiveable.with my reasons known to me.

Someone with the amount of congregation that he has would lay down rules, you might argue that the Bible is enough, it's true, but this are rules for this time thought to help people be heavenly minded. I am not against anything those ministers did before and I am not against what they are changing to now. Those things may have helped before, but when they see it is no longer helping and they change them. Nobody should criticize them unnecessarily. Don't forget as long as we are human being we can make a mistake.
I may still be a bit young but I read the past. This devil's box term that Pastor W. F. Kumuyi called television those days was a term he got from a book titled: What is Holiness? His holiness theology is based on the content of that book. It was authored by one William, I've forgotten his initials. The book was written around the 1960s or 1970s if I can still remember correctly. I have a copy of it in my library. Now, I believe the reason Idahosa had that interview was to look at the positive effect of the media on the gospel of Jesus Christ. And because the teaching the TV was the devil's box, a term gotten from the book I mentioned earlier was prevalent in the Nigerian church. I'd advise if you're a Christian, study the Bible and know the truth for yourself. The best a man can be is a man. But God will always be God and will still depend on imperfect men to carry out His purposes on the earth. Shalom!!!

W.F Kumuyi NEVER said ''not watching television'' was a doctrine, neither did he say that the marriage committee was a doctrine. He said he set up the 'administration' of marriage committee to help the young people 'marry' the right way. He also said he 'discouraged' the use of television because it was filled with things that could pollute the mind, which Pa Elton and Benson Idahosa also recognized. Your diligence in digging up these things is commendable. But you need to pay attention to your use of the word DOCTRINE in ALL your analysis.

Let’s call a spade a spade, pastor W.F Kumuyi is my father in the lord, and I can tell you that papa said the television is a SIN, pastor Tunde Bakare did search the scriptures and promoted the television but the next Sunday papa corrected what what pastor tunde said by saying, and I quote, it is bad for a believer to the devils box, back then if you own a television your home can never be used for home caring fellowship, I was born buttered and bread😂 in the church, I don’t want to mention my dads name who is still a senior member of the church, so agree to what you don’t know, papa said it and he has never for once said he didn’t say it. I love my father in the lord so much though I attend a different church but I never miss a bible study till date, NB: no one is above mistakes as humans, but the courage to correct the mistakes is what makes us special especially as a man of God and that’s why papa kumuyi is special not many men of God can apply such wisdom in correcting an age long church doctrine. The problem is many people are lazy to think or reason for themselves. However,the twisting of things of the gospel started far back by Europeans monarchs, British included. They established their own doctrines, blended them with the teachings for the purpose of mind control.
One thing I thank God for is that in recent times, the short videos of my father-in-the-Lord's salient sermons has been of greater blessings. I remember this message very well because I was in the church then. This portion from the entire message was directed at a situation arising from the church where certain administrative offices in the church then became derailed and making sincere church members' lives very difficult and unbearable, especially the marriage committee. I can never forget my experience but I thank God for the experience because it made me understand God's dealing better.

Thank you brother. Lots of things we do now in the churches are not only doctrines but also handed down or copied or trying to make ones self look too spiritual. Example can be a pastor praying and constantly repeating the blood of Jesus and the audience repeats or shouts the same. This is not in the bible. Study the bible for yourself and know what it says not just believing anything anyone says or sings.
I have arguments with pastor time n times again when he tries to implement something and I'll ask him is it in the Bible? My entire life was messed up by the DL marriage committee in the 90s. But I thank God for His amazing Grace that I'm still alive and whilst there is life, there is hope, because not many people are as lucky as I am. Still a work in progress. God is still healing but the devil used the marriage committe against me. Others were blessed by it, but not me. Praying for anyone who's is still suffering as a result of DLMC.

It is not everything we have to do get things done as a believer that is written in the bible. God did not create us to be a zombie or robot. He gave us senses and ability to be able to initiate any idea or rule for getting things done. When moses was judging Israel, Jethro his father in-law corrected him on something's because God did not give the administrative law when he was given him the law and he believe He should be able to handle administrative matters see Exodus 18:15-25. God only created all the animals, but He did not give anyone of them name. Adam named them all because God knew He has given him ability to be able to do some things. You as a media person, if you have a staff wouldn't you set the time they will resume duty and the time they will close and their conduct at work. And if you feel that time is not okay since you are the head of the organisation you can change it and anyone that still wants to belong to that organisation must comply. Vessels set apart for the Master's use. Worldliness and holiness both have to do with ownership and obedience. To whom you belong and whom you obey- the god of this world, the Prince of the power of the air or the Father of glory, the Creator of things visible and invisible, the only true God. The Father of lies or the God and Father of our Lord Jesus the Christ, who is holy, holy, holy.

He didn't mislead anyone. He was trying to prevent his followers from being derailed just like apostle Paul advices that it is better to remain unmarried to focus and be heaven conscious. Both Kumuyi and apostle Paul's levels of spirituality is extremely too high and they want others to see things from their perspective. The Bible says "if your finger will not allow you to make heaven then cut it off" anything could be that finger like TV, phone, husband or wife e.t.c.... thats why they advice you to be like them but the advice might not sit well with anyone that is not operating in their level or see things from their level of spiritual perspectives.

By the grace of God I was in the Monday Bible study in Block 12, flat 2 UNILAG the day Pastor Kumuyi, then Brother as he was then called told us the disadvantages of television, referred to as the devil's 👿 box. I completely agreed then and even today I still reason along that point after after 47 years. He was absolutely right then and today. Because it takes the grace of God and total surrender to God and His words in Romans 12v1-2 to be able to take absolute control of yourself over the addiction of all social media screens.
Many Christians today are 100%addicted to worldly programs, even football 🏈 than getting stick to the word of God.
God bless Pastor W F Kumuyi and keep him till the very end.

Thank God for giving us a Man like pastor Kumuyi
Sincerely speaking, Pastor Kumuyi is right on the matter of watching tv but it's hard to believe. Recently, my wife said, whenever she picked up her phone to read Bible, she discovered that she must have spent 5hrs doing something else either watching African Magic or other things etc..., instead of reading her Bible. Secondly, sitting before the television, you can only get up unless nepa takes light and you pick your Bible. However, I also discovered that after nepa must have taken the light, people still try to search for the title of the African Magic movie they are watching before on their phones. Can you see any reason with Pastor Kumuyi? We misunderstood the concept and the addiction attached to media technologies generally. Now as we speak, I've been in the church severally and seen elderly people sitting next to me and around me, watching Facebook with full attention, and even sending messages while the sermon was going on. Let me shock you more, the person browsing Facebook was a pastor's wife (not the senior pastor, but one of the pastors). Things are happening. Remember that Apostle Paul too does say some things and would say, "it's his opinion". Just to keep our focus and not to shift attention from Jesus Christ. Attention shifters are so many now. May God help us in Jesus' name.

By the way, Jesus says if your eyes would cause you to lose heaven, pluck it out, and if it's your hand, cut it off... While the Lord is obviously not saying to literally take out your body parts, we can use this as a yardstick to measure if we have resisted evil enough. And to me, based on my little understanding of the Christ's teachings, there is nothing that is too special or too big to give up because of Christ. Papa Kumuyi wanted people to be always heavenly minded and do away with corruptible devices. He stated that they are administrative rules, I think I get it now. Seeing as time has changed, and there's access everywhere he decided to let it be but continually warn against dangerous sites and channels.
He's not laying down laws because he believes he can, but it more for the spiritual benefits of the members.
That was why he created his church four years before ex-communicated from his former church and left with the church members.

I am not against anything those ministers did before and I am not against what they are changing to now. This devil's box term that Pastor W. F. Kumuyi called television those days was a term he got from a book titled: What is Holiness? His holiness theology is based on the content of that book. It was authored by one William, I've forgotten his initials. The book was written around the 1960s or 1970s if I can still remember correctly. I have a copy of it in my library.
Now, I believe the reason Idahosa had that interview was to look at the positive effect of the media on the gospel of Jesus Christ. And because the teaching the TV was the devil's box, a term gotten from the book I mentioned earlier was prevalent in the Nigerian church.
I'd advise if you're a Christian, study the Bible and know the truth for yourself. The best a man can be is a man. But God will always be God and will still depend on imperfect men to carry out His purposes on the earth.

W.F Kumuyi NEVER said ''not watching television'' was a doctrine, neither did he say that the marriage committee was a doctrine. He said he set up the 'administration' of marriage committee to help the young people 'marry' the right way. He also said he 'discouraged' the use of television because it was filled with things that could pollute the mind, which Pa Elton and Benson Idahosa also recognized.
Your diligence in digging up these things is commendable. But you need to pay attention to your use of the word DOCTRINE in ALL your analysis.

Let’s call a spade a spade, pastor W.F Kumuyi is my father in the lord, and I can tell you that papa said the television is a SIN, pastor Tunde Bakare did search the scriptures and promoted the television but the next Sunday papa corrected what what pastor tunde said by saying, and I quote, it is bad for a believer to the devils box, back then if you own a television your home can never be used for home caring fellowship, I was born buttered and bread😂 in the church, I don’t want to mention my dads name who is still a senior member of the church, so agree to what you don’t know, papa said it and he has never for once said he didn’t say it. I love my father in the lord so much though I attend a different church but I never miss a bible study till date, NB: no one is above mistakes as humans, but the courage to correct the mistakes is what makes us special especially as a man of God and that’s why papa kumuyi is special not many men of God can apply such wisdom in correcting an age long church doctrine. The problem is many people are lazy to think or reason for themselves.
However,the twisting of things of the gospel started far back by Europeans monarchs, British included. They established their own doctrines, blended them with the teachings for the purpose of mind control.
One thing I thank God for is that in recent times, the short videos of my father-in-the-Lord's salient sermons has been of greater blessings. I remember this message very well because I was in the church then. This portion from the entire message was directed at a situation arising from the church where certain administrative offices in the church then became derailed and making sincere church members' lives very difficult and unbearable, especially the marriage committee. I can never forget my experience but I thank God for the experience because it made me understand God's dealing better.

Thank you brother. Lots of things we do now in the churches are not only doctrines but also handed down or copied or trying to make ones self look too spiritual. Example can be a pastor praying and constantly repeating the blood of Jesus and the audience repeats or shouts the same. This is not in the bible. Study the bible for yourself and know what it says not just believing anything anyone says or sings.
I have arguments with pastor time n times again when he tries to implement something and I'll ask him is it in the Bible? He'll say it's just to help the church grow he'll point to other churches that they do this and that then I'll say Sir God's standard is what's paramount not rules and law laid out by men as doctrine to control their members or extort money from them.
How significant is repeating Blood of Jesus to our faith, whether one repeat it or not should not constitute an argument.

It is not everything we have to do get things done as a believer that is written in the bible. God did not create us to be a zombie or robot. He gave us senses and ability to be able to initiate any idea or rule for getting things done. When moses was judging Israel, Jethro his father in-law corrected him on something's because God did not give the administrative law when he was given him the law and he believe He should be able to handle administrative matters see Exodus 18:15-25. God only created all the animals, but He did not give anyone of them name. Adam named them all because God knew He has given him ability to be able to do some things. You as a media person, if you have a staff wouldn't you set the time they will resume duty and the time they will close and their conduct at work. And if you feel that time is not okay since you are the head of the organisation you can change it and anyone that still wants to belong to that organisation must comply.
In the book of Act of Apostle when some group were complaining that their widows have been neglected by the church, the Apostles selected seven men to take up that responsibilities among them was Stephen that was stoned to death. This is to show to you that Church can put in place any institution they think will help them to achieve their goals, including marriage committee and doctrine of don't watch TV. i get your point, but in as much as it doesn't sit well with some people it's a culture they've come to adopt. it was a sign of respect to them. the Elton came bear to Nigeria without any titles and the only way they deemed fit to put respect was to call them Pa /Ma. It just like saying you don't want to call a sibling doctor while in a hospital. See Nigeria is a country still finding itself and easily adopt any thing or should i say most things

My man, this your calling is the type that may send one to hell fire. The calling of analysing churches and berating/criticizing men/women of God. Who are really benefiting from your work? Believers in Christ or unbelievers? Do you know what Deeper Life could have become by today if those rules/dogma/principles etc were not in place. Marriage committee has actually helped to avert/avoid numerous marital calamity in Deeper Life, but Kumuyi was just trying to correcting their extremes. Mind you, Kumuyi statement that he will change his establishments is conditional - if it is no more causing the church to progress or be holy. Abstinence from having and watching TV, though quite helped the members in maintaining a high level of concentration then, may not not be helpful in the progress of the church in this digital world, and that is why the church is loosing her guard on it. I wonder why you people are always surfing the internet looking for what men of God say so you can analyse it. Na waaoh! You guys should repent and ask God to guide you in an eternal profitable venture for the kingdom.. I doubt if what you guys are doing is heavenly. Thanks.

He didn't mislead anyone. He was trying to prevent his followers from being derailed just like apostle Paul advices that it is better to remain unmarried to focus and be heaven conscious. Both Kumuyi and apostle Paul's levels of spirituality is extremely too high and they want others to see things from their perspective. The Bible says "if your finger will not allow you to make heaven then cut it off" anything could be that finger like TV, phone, husband or wife e.t.c.... thats why they advice you to be like them but the advice might not sit well with anyone that is not operating in their level or see things from their level of spiritual perspectives.
