My 17 yr old girlfriend played for our local women's team back in 1985, 'The Lincoln Snooker club' Rayleigh Essex, They played on Monday nights so I went to the home matches and was asked to chalk all night for beers, most legs I was wiping the board off and sitting down waiting for one of the women to hit Double 1... I nearly died of boredom...
I remember watching a pub match once,both were on double 16 they played for 3 hours and couldn't get it. In the end they were asked if there was a double they both preferred,I can't remember which one they chose,as I was pixxed by then. Al I can remember was which ever one it was it took them another 4 hours before they hit it. I missed the winning dart,as i was looking at a beer mat at the time.
Usually my games go on for 5x as long as this going at a double, followed by an emergency rule change that actually, a single number will do to check out - and then still a few rounds back and forth busting on that!
If you want to hit doubles constantly don't aim as if you are worried about busting. Play solely to hit it as if you Don't care. Your brain actually maps your misses as well as your hits so if you keep missing you will always miss. I have only been playing since covid lockdown I was terrible at darts as a kid but watched multiple UA-cam clips on grip and aim. I hold my darts without a finger on the tip which is old school style. I have no stablizer just three fingers as thrusters but with a very light grip. I am blind in my leading eye but I hit a double one in every 3/4 darts. So vision is not the issue it sounds like relaxation to me and belief. I nearly quit playing everyday for the first two months but then I linked my misses to relaxation you can feel the pull on your arm usually another issue is twisting the wrist mid throw and also not following through with your arm. Think as if you are throwing a harpoon into a whale but solely with the forearm. Never move your head or your elbow. I am still improving I didn't think it was possible with my vision. I put these priciples in place it felt robotic at first but now feels natural. I haven't hit a 180 but I hit 140s quite regularly and its not natural talent its about discipline confidence and relaxation. Good luck don't give up its saving my sanity during lockdown

This matchplay has disappointed in the sense that I wanted to see young guys like de zwaan and aspinall go deep but instead we have king and Wade slugging it out in what is pretty ugly viewing at times
Is there a darts player with any real sporting ability? - there was a time when being a champion meant you had to push yourself beyond normal limits, now sporting standards are so low that any idiot that spends too much time in a working mens club is reviered as a champion. Darts fans get involved with a real sport just cut out the crates of beer!

Breathing on them makes them warmer and a bit damp so more grip if your hands are cold
