Barbaros Village / Railings and Çatkapı Houses / Village Life in İzmir

Sometimes, a food we taste, beyond appealing to our palate, can become much more delicious by communicating with our memories and by the richness of our experiences in our saddlebag. The same goes for our other senses, of course. A scent we breathe, something we see; It can take us to a place we never expected in our minds. A smile mixed with amazement at what we can still remember that forgotten moment brings to life on our faces.
This journey, inspired by our senses, does not only carry us to our memories. Sometimes it awakens in us the feelings that we miss and cover up. That moment of awakening makes us remember the emotions we have hidden.
The sincerity and innocence I see especially in the villages I visited put a sad smile on my face, fueled by the longing for our childhood. Barbaros Village often aroused these feelings in me. Both the people I saw and the smells I smelled… "Semra's Çatkapı House", one of the village's Çatkapı houses, was one of the places that aroused these feelings. Ms. Semra's gum cookies and Mr. Cumhur's conversation were a pleasant memory in my mind.
