The right hand Kef looks like the midrange drivers have both had their centres pushed in. Not much difference in sound save the AR's are much quieter. That shows the excellent sensitivity of the Kefs doesn't it ? The Kefs sound better though to me, but we are listening third hand via a microphone, and our own speakers or headphones. I'm 61 now and I've had my own 104/2's for 32 years now bought brand new, and despite my older ears (and their slightly reduced HF ability due to my age) the Kefs still stun me everytime I sit and listen to them. I paid 768 British pounds for them, ( I live in England ) and people thought I'd gone mad spending so much! But they were cheap really! 24 pounds per year plus the cost of new tweeters, and foam dougnuts for the woofers. I love them, and will never part with them! Now they are driven from a Doge Prima Donna 75 watts (verified by my own measurement of it) RMS per channel 4x KT88 based valve (tube) amp and have never sounded better than they do now!
Great system. Really love that amplifier. Both speakers sound great in their own way but I think the sound of the Kefs would be easier to live with long term.
Don’t listen to these comments, man. I like your setup. Yeah it’s cluttered but whatever makes you happy is more than good enough. I have a pair of 104/2’s and I love them. Cheers!
It could be that the compression on UA-cam is causing it but the KEF the highs or a little too sharp they were just a little too much for my ears the Lowe's were good but it could have been the compression from UA-cam
The record player is less than good. Both speakers are revealing a harsh distortion from the cartridge and early roll off on the phonostage. See if you can get everything serviced and set up again.
Hi i have discovered the AR93 They look a very interesting concept Like small AR9 ? i am not an expert but my guess is that the xover could benefit from some parts replacement with better and newer components Especially capacitors I like them very much indeed I would even think to study the xover more in depth The big midrange can take even from 200 Hz and up And maybe a better tweeter ? However very nice speakers indeed. Thanks and kind regards, gino
Just found a pair of these curbside, in good condition but with the usual foam rot. Haven't tested the drivers yet. What's the purpose of those hugh hex nuts? Is it some kind of hack? Just curious.
They hold the midrange/tweeter housing in place. Use an Allen key to separate the housing and be careful with the wires if you do. Tweeter replacement requires unscrewing those nuts.
Hi Shaun. I meant the hex nuts sitting on the floor. I tested all my drivers with a signal generator and they are working so I guess they are worthy of a rebuild.
You mean with nuts with the spikes in them under the bottom ? Or at least they should have spikes in the base, fixed to those nuts. If so they anchor the speakers to the floor. Often they have plastic cap covers acting as feet for the cabinets.

Wow, that looks like a Walker CJ55 turntable. I believe CJ stood for Colin and Janet, the couple behind the company. My Mum had one.
KEF 104/2 clearly the best.
Linda Rondstant...
i like ....!👍👍👍
I prefer the sound from AR. Again, as an industry expert used to say, plastic cone sounds...plastic!

Despite the pops and crackles I think the KEF's reproduce more realistically. The AR93's appear to add more bass to the mix.

I think that Kef sound is much better.
Thank for sharing. Wich one do you preffer in real life?
The midbass totally dissapears when you switch to th AR93. KEF all the way, although they look badly in need of refurbishment

104's all day long
Kefs are clean, ar's muddy then super high and piercing.
the 104/2 Sounds great to me. What's your amp model? thanks
the amp is from onkyo integra series
Man I have a mint pair of the Kef 104/2 and you are killing them with your setup. A crying shame.
Kef 👍🏻

Otherwise I have no idea. Someone must have put them there.
analog sound to digit recoding to analog sounding makes sound harsh.
It's night and day the KEF's are so much better!
hi, I prefer the clearer sound of the ARs
The ARs have less of a presents then THE KEF's
KEF✌️!
I’ll take the AR’s all day
I don't know what it is but something doesn't sound right
The music are a bad choice for a test!
良い音だねこれがアナログでは❗️
AR better
Kef sound better
