Great video, even having a basic level in English I can understand you very well even without subtitles, you explain very well and you are bringing relevant topics on the subject, it is difficult to find good content about cs skins, keep up the good work
bro i wanted to answer on your reply bc of infos to skins. bc i had a idea to rework the lightning strike skin (challenge for myself). and here you are with a tutorial that helps and answer a lot of questions. true king
You are an amazing viper I have learned so many things since I started 2 weeks back into Weopology... I love to watch your videos and learn new tricks and abilities.. please upload tuts with different effects or all-in-one gun skin.. Thank you so much Viper love you...!
I got a question I've come to find quite difficult to answer. and I'm unsure if you know it but it's work asking. For example your AWP skins, same as mine. you can't texture the scope etc. and I get that is intentional but how do you override that? because many skins in the workshop and that were accepted and in game do override that. so there is a way and I'd like to do that.
Who said you can't texture the scope of the awp?? Of course you can (And I'm pretty sure i've done it already). Some skin styles (Like the Patina) won't let you texture the scope, but others like the custom paint job and the gunsmith will definitely let you. In Custom Paint Job skins make sure that the scope area in the UV has a dark value in its alpha channel
Visible seams are not a problem. It depends on what you want to achieve. There are many official pattern skins out there that use different skin styles (I even saw 1 that uses Custom Paint Job!). Many pattern skins have visible seams. However the best approach to avoiding seams (If you don't want seams in your skin) is to use Spray Paint or Anodized Airbrush
Question unrelated to the video. Now that the cs2 obj models are out, should we all start using those instead of the csgo ones? And do you know if you can even upload those files in the workshop.
You can create skins using the new models and you can upload them to the workshop, since you basically need tga and vtf files for the upload. However with the current workbench of CSGO you will not be able to test your skin and take screenshots. Also you will not be able to view the skin in-game. The only images that you will be able to upload are from your 3D tool...... Unless you have access to CS2 that is!
With the Patina style you can add a normal map, but the normal map stays static. It does NOT change with the pattern. It stays the same way it was baked
That's a tough question that I don't know the answer for. The new models are already out, but since I don't have access to CS2, and since Valve aren't telling us anything (Or at least not to everyone) about what we should do then we can't know for sure. Personally I decided to stop making skins until I see what's going to happen next
It's really hard for me to tell since I never got to try CS2 and don't know how the workbench looks. But if you want you can start creating the textures of your skins with the new models that came out, and when CS2 is released you can start inspecting them in the new workbench
Publishing CS2 (From CS2) Is currently disabled. People who publish CS2 skins now are just using the new models. you'll note that they don't even put in-game pictures
Oh that's very good to know. Because I spent so much time trying to figure out why some colors didn't come out (exactly) like i expected. At first i thought i made a mistake! Thank you for the comment!
Awesome content, dude. Do you think one day you could do an Inkscape tutorial for making engravings? My engravings are currently made using free images but they always come out pixelated on the bump map. Would love to learn to make my own and look decent too like yours
The system they have devised for this seems to be akin to playing a bass guitar in a band, and hearing yourself playing a bass guitar, but the end product that everyone else hears is a actually a flute. There has to be a better way of doing this tbh. Great video though, very clear explanation of their insane system haha!
Haha good analogy! Yeah it's a crazy system, and I'm not exaggerating when I say that it took me 3 weeks of trials and reading their documentation more than 20 times to understand how patterns work, and during all that time I kept saying what you said, "there has to be a better way"! On the other hand, as I mentioned in the video, remember that if you only need to have 4 colors then just use pure red, green and blue as well as a transparent background and then you can set those colors in the color options of the workbench. And thank you for your nice words, i'm glad the explanation was clear enough :)
@@viperskins yeah that tip was sweet. I've spent the last day or 2 just playing about with the templates, no research whatsoever. It becomes painfully obvious very quickly that something strange going on with the colours! I kinda figured out it was something like this with the boom mask... But great to have it confirmed and laid out clearly! It's frustrating though... If they were to make some changes to this system and make it a little more user friendly and logical, I feel like the number of people making skins would increase exponentially. I have to say though, I'm not one to give up easily. I fear I've found the next rabbit hole for my life to fall down lol. Cheers man, gonna get back to watching the rest of your vids 😉
@@shogunai Don't despair. The skin making process is not easy and can take a while to get used to it. I've been doing this for 3 years now, so be patient and hopefully one day you (And I!) will get our skins accepted. If you need any help with any of the videos feel free to let me know. Soon I'll be making new tutorials for CS2 as well. Stay tuned :)

Thank you! Your guides got me started on this journey, and I'm excited to see another one :)
Happy to hear that! I hope this video serves you well!
Is it possible to make the pattern only show on a certain part of the skin?
surprised you didnt already make this one, good job!

@@viperskins Appreciate the Feedback!! Ty
can we get updated tutorial on skin making with new models and viewing them in cs2?
I will be making a new tutorial on how to make skins in CS2 as soon as i get access to CS2
But how to avoid visible seam onnthe Anodized multicolor for example? (With seamless pattern), and if seam is visible is that a problem?

New guide for cs2 waiting room
Oh you know it's coming 😉
Would love an updated video for cs2 now hopefully everything here isn't invalidated.
I might make an updated video some time in the future, but besides the UI of the workbench not much has changed
when uploading pattern skins you would upload the imagine pattern into the consel when submitting the application correct?
Sorry for the delay. I was on vacation!
Yes. Create the vtf file with your pattern as the "diffuse map" and upload it to the workbench
Question, can you control the normals of the pattern in patina do you can make a pattern based skins with bumps?
With the Patina style you can add a normal map, but the normal map stays static. It does NOT change with the pattern. It stays the same way it was baked

can u make a video where u explain how to make glitter and holo parts on weapon

Will the way of crating skins in cs2 change with the new workshop tools ???? I really want to start making skins what is a good way to start?

@@viperskins it turns out there is no point in publishing skins now?
Nice video, the colour difference is almost certainly the blend mode in csgo being different. (Probably source alpha * 1 - source alpha)
