- Two years ago, Preston's mom committed suicide, and he says music has quite literally saved his life since then. He's here at American Idol to honor his mom's longtime insistence that he CAN do something like this and become a successful singer-songwriter.

Not generally a country fan, but this young man is a great songwriter and storyteller. Emotional and deep. Loved his voice. I actually thought he was better than the other male country singers we've seen so far

I thought his songwriting was guy-wrenchingly good and his voice had some nice timbre and a pleasant twang…don’t rele know why Luke was so hard on him; but glad he made it through 🎉
I am NOT a fan of country music, just to preface how INCREDIBLE this song is. It is beyond any genre. It is a story, a journey, a remedy, and he sang and played it Outstandingly!
Yeah I spent most of my adult life despising country music for some reason but over the last few years it’s grown to become my favorite genre. It’s just so real and authentic and can turn your whole mood around.

I have BP1 and systematically destroyed my life 4 times. This makes me so sad because of how much I hurt my family. Sometimes I wish they knew what it was like then I don't because then they would feel bad. Even the doctors don't understand bipolar. I'm so sorry he lost his mom it's so horrifying. He is an amazing songwriter.

So today I was ministering to someone and they asked, "Why does God allow us to go through hard things in life if he is such a loving God?" I felt that was an amazing question, and I told him that it can be a testimony on how you got through it. This song was 100% a confirmation of what I was explaining today, and I agree that I love the strong melody and his pitch; the song was simply amazing. Keep your head up and your faith in God, and know that He does things for a reason and He loves you!

I lost my dad and my mom last year from COVID-19. I struggle with clinical depression, and chronic anxiety since I was sixth grade. After losing them my depression and anxiety is whirlwind. My mom was best friend and helped me with mental health especially my PTSD.

I would not bet this gentleman to win this whole thing, but I wouldn’t be surprised if he did either. But hands down, this is one of the most impressive original auditions I have ever seen. This is up there for me with We Three’s AGT audition and Madalyn Bailey’s song she wrote with hate comments. Lionel credits him with the “mail in” comment but you could see it in his face while he said it.. This young man is talented

I hope he allows himself to feel the sorrow and anger of his mom being taken from him. Preston, you’re allowed to be furious and angry if it feels unjust and unfair. I hope you’re able to heal as time goes on. You’re doing amazing, but you’re allowed to not be okay and ask for support/help.
