Neck stretches for newborn

  • Often after birth babies can show a head turn preference where they always want to turn one way. This is often caused from the cramped quarters they had in utero. They were used to having their head in one particular position and it still feels comfortable once they’re born. It can also be caused from a long pushing stage where their neck has tension from the birth canal. This can cause latch difficulties at the breast. If they always want to turn one way, they may get a comfortable latch on one side, but when flipped the other way, the head pulls back to its preferred position, which in turn twists the nipple causing pain and damage. Usually with time as baby stretches out, the head will become used to turning in both directions. Tummy time is great for helping that. As is making sure you rotate which side of the head baby is sleeping on. These exercises can also help baby stretch out and turn their head more evenly, which in turn helps latching equally on both sides. Some times babies need more than just simple exercise/stretches and time. Seeing a baby bodyworker like a trained chiropractor or craniosacral therapist can help expedite bringing balance and symmetry back to baby’s body.

Question... My baby kicks like a maniac and would probably kick my stomach trying to fly out of my lap if I held him like this :). Is there a different position I could use? Thanks

I feel so sorry for these babies not being able to see the woman's mouth moving. It's a wonder they even learned to talk (or did they?) during the recent insanity.
I so wish i had known these stretches 30 years ago for my babies.

The baby is confused with no facial expressions showing on the adult.

Why are you rushing things? Let the baby grow and develop on his own at his own pace. There must be a reason why babies are born with no neck muscle strength. Just
