Best hooker in te world at the moment in my opinio. He can do it all. Big abbrasive runner with the ball. Solid scrummager. Very good scrummager and defender. Quick as lightening and side steps backs for fun.
Sheahan is great player but I'd take Taukei'aho or Malcolm Marx over him.
@@PB22559 Taukei’aho doesnt even start for the All Blacks 😂 Marx is a terrific player but Sheehan has played a lot more rugby than Marx has this year and has been the best hooker in Europe. Sheehan performed better than Marx last November when Ireland beat South Africa. Sheehans the 2nd highest try scorer in the URC and he’s beaten all the best teams in the world in the last 12 months. He’s also 5 years younger than Marx so he has a much higher ceiling ahead of him. Big strong abrasive ball runner. He burns backs out on the wing too. He’s seriously fast for a hooker. Quality scrummager and a very good lineout thrower. He’s got that grunt and grit about him too and throws himself into players. He put Rob Valetini on his ass last November and broke two of his ribs. Valetini is an absolute brute of a man and he was completely flattened by Sheehan. Give me Sheehan alllllll day!
I'd argue Irelands scrum isn't as strong with Sheahan in it as it was with Kelleher. Sheahan is good in the loose but nowhere near as destructive as Taukei'aho or Marx when it comes to bulldozing players in tight spaces.
Taukei’aho will be starting in the big games. . Marx is a hall of famer, Sheahan has a long way to go before he reaches that level of excellence.
But by all means, over hype your own players and use all the hyperbole you want. The world cup is where the true test will take place and we all know what usually happens to the overhyped Irish players.
@@PB22559 Sheehan literally outplayed Marx last November at the Aviva Stadium. For a guy who’s almost 30 and only has 50 caps, that’s not considered hall of fame category and not a lot of caps in comparison to his age. At the rate Sheehan is going he’ll probably get to 100 caps by the time he’s 29/30. Yes he’s won a World Cup but he had the luxury of playing with the best players in the world at the time. He’s never won an club rugby trophy ever. I still think he’s a quality hooker but I just think Sheehan has been better than him this year & last year. You just have to look at his stats to see that.
Codie Taylor will 100% be starting in the big World Cup matches. He’s got almost 80 caps for his country and is a proven & experienced leader. I’d even put Dane Coles ahead of Taukei’aho atm. Taukei’aho still has a lot to prove. Sheehan isn’t the same type of player as those two. He’s a converted back rower so he’s more agile in attack and uses his acceleration to get by defenders. But at 6’3, 18 stone he’s still an absolute unit and can bosh his way through guys like what we saw him do to Rob Valetini. Sheehan has an unbelievably high ceiling ahead of him. Marx not so much
Let’s not forget about Ronan Kelleher either. He’s been Irelands best hooker before Sheehan and they’re similar in age. KelleherSean had a tough season with injury but he’s now back fit in the World Cup squad having recovered from injuries and well rested. He’ll be wanting to get his shirt back which I’ve no doubt he could do. There’s not much between those two guys. And the highly rated prospect of Tom Stewart is also in the squad. At 21 he’s also one of the highest try scorers in the URC. Those three guys have burst onto the scene and will hopefully have a terrific battle ahead of them for the number 2 shirt. Rob Herring is also an experienced and hugely reliable hooker who’s also in the squad. He’s no slouch either! But yeah for me Sheehan is undoubtedly the best hooker in the world at this current moment.
@@harryocallaghan8082 'let's not forget about Ronan Kellerher' yeah, no shit. I'm the one who brought him up, pal. The scrum is more solid when he's on the field than with Sheahan and the scrum is the primary role of the 'HOOKER'.... Sheahan is playing like a back rower but coming up short at his main role. I don't care if he scores a try out on the wing if he's not dominating at scrumtime, he's not fulfilling his primary purpose.
You keep hyping up your players all you want and underestimating the quality of your opponents.
