  • A MAG I’m familiar with hurriedly put up a large amount of corn at the start of the COVID-19 whatever it was. Today I’m checking on it 18 months later to see how it’s faring.

Grain elevators typically sell corn at 15% moisture. Check corn storage tables moisture vs time stored. 15% moisture is too high for long term storage. There is a vid on YT where buckets exploded from the rotting corn. LDS prep manual recommends grain at 10% moisture for long term. I have a drier that I built that lets me reduce feed corn moisture to 10%. Then I put it in Mylar bags in buckets with “Hot Hands” warmers that are just big O2 absorbers. I also add diatomaceous earth (food grade) to kill any bugs that might survive and hatch. If you do not go the extra mile in prepping you can’t count on the food being good.

I personally would have double or triple bagged it, but it looks real good.

    Good stuff Brother!
I was just shocked that as a Marine you did not have some buckets of crayon rations, even the dollar store ones work, not everybody has money to stock up on Crayola brand....

my father was a ww2 marine we were in a local tavern on afternoon sitting next to a gentleman who claimed to be a green beret was endlessly bragging about all the training he had received when he stopped for a few seconds my father looked at him directly in the eye and said "damn son a little more training and you could have been a marine" funniest thing i had ever heard my dad say.

I manage a grain elevator. For prolonged corn storage keep it cool and make sure the corn moisture is 15.5 and below the dryer the better. If you think weevil or bugs are a problem there is a product that is called dicon it will prevent them from reproducing.

Know the saying, don't keep all your eggs in one basket? Don't keep all your preps in one drum. Keep rations in servings, air tight, in bags with air & moisture absorber packets, then for extra protection put in plastic or glass then barrels with something to deter bugs, rust, ect..

This is very helpful. It's in my plan for the end of Summer to stock up on a lot of grain. That'd be organic wheat and Oates here in Ireland. If I am successful in purchasing enough it will be stored in the original bags in a cool, dark, rodent proof environment but that is just the first step. I have other plans for storing it long term, similar to what those folks have done there. Great to see the new content. Sincerely hope that the family are well. Keep the flag of freedom flying 🇺🇸❤️🇮🇪

I definitely wouldn’t say that it’s boring. I was honestly glued to the screen wondering what it would look like. I have only stored 300lbs of corn successfully for 6 months before. Great job to the packers!!!

Not a boring video because it proves that what we are doing actual works. Nothing boring about that!

O2 exorbers. Expensive, don't work well enough to ensure no larvae servive. The trick to storing whole granes in drums long term, is using argon gas! you problem even already have a bottle. It's a safe inert gas like co2 just heavier. It's in the air and your breathing now. You fill the drum from the bottom up.

This is a great informative video. It shows that putting back corn shouldnt be a issue for long term storage. Bless you Brother. Shalom
