heres a few tips for anyone out there.1. drain front plug first makes a lot less mess as rear one runs over centre stand. 2. runs bike for a few minutes first helps remove any idle crap.3. clean out wire filter with petrol and then blow out with compressor. 4. when putting new filter in add some new oil to it so its up there faster, got to do it quick. i put 1.7 litres of oil in motor when replacing filter, if right level when bike is sitting level it should meet the small bleed hole in window after starting and running for a few minutes. its actually a K&N 563 filter not 553 as described. cheers hope it helps, love my SWM Superdual :)

It's takes about 1.75 lts ( on my first service they put in over 2 ) the oil takes some time to drain into the oil window - I think that why they put to much in ? I also have a DRZ and filters are cheaper for them , also I got mine through the bike shop ( not on eBay ) same filter as TE 630 Husky )

Hi Paul, I am just getting the feel of my new 2018 Superdual and have pretty much fallen in love with it except for the seat which I find a bit hard and it restricts movement a bit. I am wondering who did your seat work for you? Also, although the SWM website lists rear shock as having adjustable compression and rebound damping, I have been unable to find any adjuster for compression damping. Only preload adjustment. What is your understanding and experience with this?

Oils is a personal preference as there are so MANY types brands and prices on the market. I have used about 4 different types to see which I think is best
    1. The recommended oil Motol I don’t rate it at all and neither does a SWM dealer and motorcycle Machanic friend of mine .i also use FULl synthetic every time as well . ( and as I ride slot of off road I change about every 2500-3000kms as well )
    2. If you what good oil that isn’t to expensive than Castrol 4T power 1 5w- 40 racing full synthetic
    3. Motorex 4T 10W - 40 full synthetic have used and runs very well .
    4. Lucas full synthetic 10W-40’a dealer friend of mine owns a RS 650 and has had his bike Dyno tested with this oil and rates it highly with smooth gear changing ( I will be trying next )

Hi, I have the SWM RS 650 R. As far as I understand the Superdual has the same engine as my bike. Which engine oil filter do you use for your Superdual? Thanks

Hello Paul, I’m really interested in this bike and I’m planning to buy it as soon as I get the degree but...is it reliable or not??
How many km have you rode it for?
(Sorry for my English but I’m not mother tongue 😂)

I have around 6000kms now and at least 50% of my riding is off road, they are a VERY reliable bike and mine has never had a problem

Paul Chidgey ok thanks a lot man!
      One more thing...6000 or 60000 km? :D
You you change the oil and the filter every 3000 cuz you do lots of off road and what about the rest of the maintenance?
I almost have no mechanical experience and having a lot of interventions to do on the bike makes me a little worried 😬

6000, and yes I do my oil around every 2500-3000kms ( depending on dust etc )

I really liked the SWM Superdual and even could take one out for a short testride rhis sunmer in Wales. However in my opinion the engine is not suitable for a long distance adventure travel bike. Service intervalls (including valve checks!) of only 5000 km mean that I need to take the bike to a dealer three to four times a year - if SWM i on insists on that the service is done by an authorized dealer to keep the warranty. Doing a valve check (and possibly adjustment) in the middle of an average three week vacation trip somewhere on a campground is not really doable!
But what really disqualifies the engine is the 20.000km replacement intervall for the valve timing chain, which requires a larger operation on the engine! So one new chain every year? You must be kidding! Look at the maintanance scheme for the little Honda CRF250L and you see what service friendly means! So putting an enduro engine in a travel bike is not such a good idea and it shows that it‘s well worth looking at the service scheme before you by a bike.
How do you feel about this - were you aware of the short service intervall and high service intensity of that bike?
