Mine is 2002 and I love it, silky smooth drive line, very comfy and pleasant to drive over long distances. Great sound system and a top quality interior. I love it.
I have an Egyptian Sand Pearl SC 2003 430 and love the car but my ‘94 SC300 was tighter and handled better because it was built as a coupe. Great review Bill! Love the side comments. Ty!!
@6:42 - Thanks Bill! I thought the power antenna in my '04 Miata made it look like a radio controlled toy. But no, it is a 'sign of luxury from the past'. Nice!
I have a 03 sc430 this best car I've ever owned and I had BMW Cadillac Mercedes this is very reliable and gorgeous car if can find one in nice shape buy it u will be soooo happy u did love it
Owned my 2003 sc430 since new. Also have Porsche Macan S and new Lexus lc500h for reference. So the sc430 is not a sports car. It is a cruiser that’s sporty. It accelerates and brakes well. Not over powering but satisfying. The beauty of this car is it’s reliability and high end “smoothness”. And it still gets many compliments from strangers. Mark Levinson sound is awesome (replace speakers if it sounds bad in yours). Speakers known to tear over time. All in all... Definitely a keeper. Book value means nothing. I wouldn’t sell a well maintained one for less than $25k.
I have a 2003 and the stereo is sheer crap. Dump the abysmal flintstone run flats and get proper tires and a flat repair kit. Do not use a tire sealant as that will destroy the tire pressure sensors ($$). The engine is bulletproof and is nearly maintenance free other than the usual oil changes, etc.
I want to know about Canadians, I am from the UK and missing the joke about how chipper they would be in the back seat. You seem to mention them a lot in your great videos Bill.
So checking out this beauty in Jun 2020, I think you were right with the original birds eye maple? Sounds familiar... After you put the top up, woulda liked a outside view of the vehicle, oh there unique and all, surprising amount of storage space, like the Allante a luxury personal coupe, What's not to like?
With supple mods it can be sportier. However no one competitor, incl. the main rival MB has the luxury refinement this car has. I have a friend hard die MB fan, his brand new Coupe aged so badly, that rims, badges corroded in the first year, paint is subpar compared to any conventional brand. His maintenance record is longer than our 2002 LS430 just in 3 years .
Truee I’ve been looking at different wheels all day before I found this video! It looks good with the Motegi racing black with red stripe. Like $160 each
VSC Vehicle Stability Control! I want to buy one but from what I understand the timing belt is not chain! It's rubber! And the mechanic say these things tend to break easily! Since the timing belt in these cars are within the engine and oil is surrounding the belt itself saturated in oil so they tend to corrode much faster because of the acid of the oil breaking it down I assume! so they tend not to last like a chain which is forever! you got to be on top of it otherwise you might get stranded ! or having a mechanic on top of it and change the timing belt on regular basis like every 30 to 40000 miles!
Old man’s car. It will never be a classic, t looks too stubby and conservative. The old SC400 was gorgeous. The new LC500 is beautiful. This thing will never be a classic, just reliable and fine materials but ugly.
"The worst car in the history of the world, all things considered.". Per top gear. Agree. It's a heavy pig with a horrible harsh suspension. Interior trim is good quality if a bit odd in execution. Good motor. Gear box is slow, dim witted and generally horrible.
Think about this car's intended customer and purpose. This was meant as a soft, non offensive, reliable, quiet and comfortable way to get to the Golf Club. With that in mind, the car was perfect.
utubejoe11 You have no idea what you are talking about. The car is a classic. It is smooth fast and reliable. The suspension is not harsh at all, if anything the ride is soft. The engine is quiet, the steering is perfect and it drives like a dream.
@@MrBarrynicholas - it may be old but certainly not classic. Looks alone relegate this thing to the trash heap of "seemed like a good idea at the time" mistakes. I suppose that it may have provided some brand equity for folks who wanted a sedan or SUV but also like the idea of sporty. For any one who has driven this thing they'll know how terrible the suspension and transmission is. A Merc is way more luxurious and almost every German and Japanese brand makes far more impressive GTs. This thing is a POS. Likely the reason that they are so inexpensive now.
@@MrBarrynicholas - biased yes; unfounded hardly. I drove 2 examples when I was looking for a nice old lux box that could be a good daily. The first one was so bad that i figured it must had a problem or some significant deferred maintenance. The second one was worse. Feels like a lux car until you drive it. Felt like a V8 Corolla with leather and 1500 lbs of sand in every nook. It was horrible. Ponderous and vague, which we should expect from a 3900 lb car, but the ride was so bad. Felt more like the lowered spring crap of tuners rather that the buttoned down pampered ride expected from a Lexus. Everything that Hammond says in this review is exactly correct. ua-cam.com/video/P6XehxpUguI/v-deo.html
Gorgeous!!!!! My grandfather has a 2006 with all the refreshed bits. Best ever. My grandfathers SC430 is in pearl white as well. Stunning.
I own a 04 and love it
I think it's aged really well. Considering it came out in like 01 it looks a lot more modern than most cars from 01
agreed!
Absolutely beautiful automobile! Great job Bill! Thank you sir.

Agree, I have a 2002 and the stupid cd changer ate my CD and won't give it back.
....timing belt/water pump replacement at 90k intervals is essential!!

The stereotype is that Canadians are always happy. That may be true when Bill sees them because they’re on vacation in Florida.
Trunk full of anvils, makes this the perfect ride for 'Wil-e-coyote'!...I'm looking for one is this color, it'd be worth visiting Auto Europa!!

Nice car but, oh man, those wheels....UGALEEEE!
Jack McCracker you could also get them in chrome. Also they were updated in 2006-2010. They look a lot nicer
