I'm a Hungarian truck driver. I'm driving among other countries in Germany a lot. Once upon a time Germany (especially West Germany) was our idol. Do you remember that TV series? Schwarzwaldklinik? Dr. Brinkmann and the others, everything so clean and tip - top, a calm life, new Audis beautiful homes etc. We were watching it with opened mouth. I'm a trucker for 21 years, the Autobahn full of Baustelle, no free parking spot after 5 pm. Back then, the toilets were clean, no litter on the floor, the name itself: Germany was equivalent to quality. One can clearly see the decline. Don't get me wrong, Germany still a strong economy, a welfare state. But the direction is wrong.

Trade liberalization typically results in a transfer of wealth from communities to business owners who benefit from moving production of goods to lower cost areas, and to the areas that get the production. There are also strong downward pressures on wages in formerly prosperous areas, especially w free labour movement. You can thank this liberalization for the overcrowded autobahns, the lack of rest stops and the overall decline in standards. Many wealthy germans have also moved to areas where they don’t have to put up with the stresses and problems that result from excessive immigration and high rates of poverty, crime, etc. Germany stopped being a welfare state in about 1990 when the spd betrayed the people and adopted neoliberalism. Now, when things break they just stay broken.

That's sad to see. As a young man in 1978/79 I spent a life-changing year in Krefeld. My home city of Liverpool was economically depressed and suffered from a lot of social-deprivation. Krefeld was like another world. It enjoyed a thriving town centre, wonderful parks and zoo along with great bars and clubs. There was no litter and only very little graffiti. The German people were always immaculately dressed and above all - it was a safe place to be day and night. That's how I imagined it still to be. My home-town of Liverpool has done much to turn things around these past decades - I wish the same for Krefeld which still holds a special place in my heart.

There were cigarette vending machines in every bar, bowling alley, restaurant, zoo, aquarium, hospital, office buildings, army base, department stores, etc up until the lawsuits against the Tobacco companies. No age requirement to purchase. I would be given a note and a quarter to buy a pack of

I remember being sent to the store with a note to buy Cigs for my cousin One day I said why don't you go and buy your own cigs, you're not a cripple you got 2 good hands and legs so use them, Anyway I ended up going for her cigs! The next day I called my friend Michael, hey! Do you still have your pet rat! Can I barrow him for an hour or so! I knew it was coming, she asked me to get her purse, so I went and got her purse, that's when I stuck the rat inside! OH! BOY! She went BALISTIC! She jumped on the Kitchen table Screaming to high heaven! So I said what the hell I'm going to leave her there for awhile and walked away closing the kitchen door behind me! I think I left her there for an hour or so yelling and screaming for help! I was 7 years old. So from then on she went and got her own cigs.

Bred out of existence. That's what we're watching happen; the replacement of native races deemed to be 'oppressors' and downright evil.
Or is it that the elite know who is most likely to foil their diabolical future plans? Autonomy is coming. The herd must be culled. Resistance must be futile. So, they 'hedge their bets' and eliminate the most likely threat capable of offering the most organized resistance to their plan.

The policemen are aware of that and usually give you a pass, unless you are really unlucky to look like someone they are searching for, or they are just jerks that want to ruin your day by having you waiting in the police station for a couple of hours, until they tell you that you are free to go.

It's not just Krefeld my friend, believe me. I'm living in rural Wales and the coof has done about as much damage here as there.
The quarantine and subsequent heavy hit to most smaller stores that didn't have the weight or bribes to be considered "essential" has basically killed our little town centre. Asda and Lidl are doing well, anything else? Not so much.
As for the homeless, I definitely agree: you won't find many (or perhaps even any) in small to medium towns. They'll be in bigger cities where the population density is high enough for them to dip into the crowd when the authorities are on the prowl, where the majority of the shelters are and where panhandling and other opportunities to gather some cash for food or necessities are better.
I only ever see any when I take the train to bigger places such as Cardiff or London - where there are enough people to ask for spare change.

Businesses failing has and will always be the norm. 20% at end of year 1 to 50% by year 5. Mostly they were never viable in the first place. What often kills them is tax. There are business rates, employer NI, for the owner employee NI as well. Business insurance, overheads. Also between £500 and £1000 per year for accountants fees. Wales gets lots of subsidies and reliefs for small businesses unavailable in England so depending on the type of business rates can go as low as £0. If commercial sites are empty now it is probably because of the internet and not enough people locally have money to spend.
All of this is 100% normal. The 2008 recession was pretty small compared to the ones in the 1970s. Again recessions are cyclical and normal. The last 14 years or so have been very comfortable so we can expect a bit of a rough ride for a few years.

What isn't life is that the vast majority of them are now closed, many of them closing during the pandemic measures. Only businesses still open are barbers and fast food stores that deliver.

This seems to be a trend across the world, and reminds me of many Canadian cities. Modern governments and policies support these trends and I'm not sure if the majority of people are lazy, or just don't care.

Time for the German version of Navy Seals to take back the country from the lady "men" and empty skirts leading Germany into dystopia. Only disciplined men of German origin can restore the country to esteem. Marxist women and lady "men" have ruined Germany and other parts of Europe.

No. It is not a trend accross the world. It is only in the so called "free" and "democratic" western countries. I live in Russia and we dont have these problems. I had to integrate myself in the society. I dont find any german diaspora here. Crime consequently ends in jail or you will be thrown out of the country.

Wow, it’s been such a long time since I have seen Krefeld. I think last time I visited was 2002 or 2003. My brother went to University there. It’s textile chemistry engineering program was well known and valued all throughout Germany. The “ original “ Krefelder are awesome people. Very friendly, witty and laid back. I used to have a small apartment there for about a year. It’s pretty depressing to witness how much the city has gone down hill.

Thanks for the tour of Germany!!! My mother was born in Berlin, so for me, it's fascinating as I've never visited in all my 65 years!!! Mike, thanks for taking us with you. Please do a video on what your mom cooked for you as you bought groceries just the other day. Something native to Germany would be great. I like the scholaden platzelin that we get at Christmas time. My OMA/OPA would send us parcels every year & those were always included. It's chocolate circles with a bit of mint, covered by sprinkles. Danke
