    • @TunezCottage
      @TunezCottage 3 роки тому +2

      Nope, the hang dribble counts as a live ball so the side-step is a zero step, he then takes a 1-2 cross step and stops. Not a travel. Plenty of players use the cross step stepback. Although it's usually used to fake going one way, like for example, you take a hard dribble between left leg, and then cross step to your right. You can do it with pickup but that limits your options; or you do it with keeping the dribble open by hanging the ball and you can hesi out if your defender closes in. Either way, not a travel.

    • @arjen8469
      @arjen8469 3 роки тому +1

    • @TunezCottage
      @TunezCottage 3 роки тому +4

      @@arjen8469 that first sidestep is counted as a zero step in basketball, because it was made while he was in the process of grabbing the ball out of a live dribble. I should know since my entire team was pulled into a conference to talk about the rule change just last year. Also, you can 1-2 just as much as you can in a layup on the three point line. That's why you're allowed to step-through and shoot if say your defender jumps and doesn't give you space to shoot. Normally if you have quick reflexes you'd draw the foul but even some of the best players in the world (steve nash, kobe bryant etc.) wouldn't, they stepped through instead and just shot the ball normally. So... yeah, you're wrong. But it's okay. It looks like a travel. But it isn't.

    A lot of guys look good in open gyms where it's mostly 1v1 with little defense, what separates the NBA players from the non-NBA players is the NBA guys can do it against 5v5 at full pace up and down the court without getting gassed. A lot of guys have similar basketball skills as NBA players, but do not have the athleticism. Pros put in the effort that most average joe's are not willing to do and sometimes it just helps to be 7ft tall lol.

      Not a travel, another dude said the same a little above your comment and somebody else already wrote a full explanation on why its not. Go read his if you want, but to me its not a travel. You can take how many steps you want between the natural motion of a dribble, like a stutter step before a dunk. After the hang dribble, he side stepped of 1 which will be the ghost step/0 step, and while still in the natural dribble motion, then picked the ball up to land on 2 feet. It probably looks awkward becuase he hopper over the left foot, when most people go off the right foot when going left.
