There was one timeline they stopped at where everything was ash and flat, and I think that this fanfic is based off of that, just before everything turned into nothing. The whole "magical nuke" would explain why everything was all dead, and why it all looked so dull.
Yes! I figured that out too! That's why they feel like the lives they were meant to lead were ripped away- by a time travelling Starlight from an alternate universe! Now more than ever am I glad for the scene where they see the aftermath and Twilight convinces Starlight to let go of her grudge. Totally crazy...

When the smoke cleared...when the fallout had died down...we were stunned to find the world with no trace of civilization. We were left to rebuild what is left. Most of us chose to forget the horrible war, but we all remember one thing... ...it's that war.....war never changes...
well it is more of an anti-matter bomb of some sorts but not with the kind of destruction of a anti-matter bomb if you stop to analize it a nuke wouldn't hav ethose effects it would grow on a vertical explosion with lots of radiation witch would most probably mutate everyithing if not to kill it by radiation sickness this bomb is more like a anti-matter bomb in the sense of it being a horizontal detonation and not leaving any radiation behind so no chance of survivals by mutations it would just desintegrate every life that once was alive there and being a horizontal effect bombo it would actually manage to do it because of the far reaching effects it would have and since such a large explosion could take place with the magic of princess celetia no protection spell could protect from pure desintegration it is not like a normal thing the desintegration of the explosion would end everything even magic so no magic protection could ever resist it hope you understood it if not i can try to explain it in another words thanks for taking care to read it lol

I listened to again after I think almost a year, and the writing is even grater then I remember. The music and sound effects are all perfect. Honestly this really a goal for any aspiring writer.

We dont know for certain if it was Celestia herself that had a direct hand in turning twilight into an alicorn. She never visibly used her magic so for all we know, Celestia was just there to watch like a parent watching her child graduate. Its been vaugely and briefly stated during Flurryheart's birth that a pony needs to do some magnificent feat to gain alicornship, not just bibbidi-bobbidi-boo them into an all powerful being. If that was the case then there would be a very large power struggle that stems off of "Hey, we're alicorns, so whats the use of the princesses? We can just rule ourselves"
Before I realized that Twilight wasn’t Celestia’s student in this world, I thought it was awful she wouldn’t save her. I guess then she saved the one who was her student. Maybe Sunset Shimmer? And I guess no one became the new bearers of the Elements of Harmony. Wow. So did only Celestia, Luna and the creatures taken to the moon survive?

This is amazingly emotionally phenomenal! A aftermath recall of the Epic climax of The War of the Crystal Empire and King Sombra; battling against both of the royal sisters, told in the perspective of the Twilight Sparkle in that alternate timeline! The circumstances of the conflicts seem to parallel The Fallout Equestria timeline but with the consequences of mystical super weapons against because she has enemies seem to have more devastating consequences on the mainland; the aftermath of this war is more unique yet worse than the wastelands: this time it's a bit more Bloodbath like scenario with King Sombra's Scars of War leaving a new Calamity upon the natural land that will change Equestria forever, as well as achieving his goal of destroying Harmony forever and to spread his Darkness across all the lands and kingdoms; exceeding the Legacy of the Pony of Shadows and for filling his Destiny for the Umbrum Shadow Ponies ( check the IDW comics). This is definitely one of my favorite grimdark stories mostly because this Grim reality of the War timeline from the Cutie remark that can actually happen if this concept was continued; more jarring and terrifyingly realistic than any of the Creepypasta and Grimdark stories before, even more so than Party of One/Cupcakes & Rainbow Factory. Makes sense that in this timeline Starlight loses her Village to the War and lives out alone, I'd hope she meet Trixie in all this; but it's nice to know that Sunset was still in Equestria through this and that's the devastation of Double Rainboom idea was capitalized on as a replacement for the Mega-Spell bombs.
It is. It's the last timeline they visited together. The one where there was nothing but howling winds and dust. After all, from this story there wasn't any rainboom until a bit after the start of sombra's appearance in the cannon story. Which explains why spike never hatched

I beg to differ, would a life living under a leader as sombra, bring a slave and not knowing if he will kill you every day be a very good life? In the end, they freed everyone from a life of nightmares and long, drawn out deaths into a quick and painless death in the blink of a eye. I believe it was justified in the end
