Legalise it, tax it, then we can get the strains we actually want. If it remains illegal we will all continue to buy it and growers will continue growing regardless
Amen. It's literally a win win for the government. Make money off it, save money on cops wasting time with small time weed users. You'd think the government would have jumped on it by now considering the potential money to be made!
MoistGoat I know, but the UK goverment is so old fashioned and they are not open minded at all. They even tried to stop innovation by attempting to ban bitcoin, until they learned how it actually works and realised they cant stop it. At least one of the MPs in this docco actually tried it!! I was suprised at that. Fingers crossed for the future. I vaped some Blue Cheese last night and got a solid 8 hours sleep....arrest me
All of you people are using foolish legalization talking points that don’t apply to reality. Look at Canada’s legalization, it’s been one of the biggest policy failures in history. Monopolized business, more money is spent on policing, people are still being charged, no expungement or records, BS high driving laws, no public usage in some cases, the legal cannabis is the worst quality and it’s 2-3x the price.. The only positive thing is the right to grow 4 plants but that’s barely anything...
AndreNickatlna the worst quality?? Are you delusional? The licensed growers have no incentive to add crushed glass and god know what else to the buds to make them look frosty, like they do here in the UK. I dont care how much it is, I’ll pay 3 times the price if I have to. As long as I know I’m getting the strain I want. It is not a fail in Canada at all.
People have been using cannabis for thousands of years. People are using cannabis today,. People will always use cannabis. The use is world wide. The questions are: Do you want cannabis sold in a controlled and regulated shop or from the corner drug-dealer? Do you want the money from the sell of cannabis to go to local businesses and governments or to foreign cartels and street gangs? There are no other choices! Prohibition hasn't worked, isn't working now and will NEVER WORK!
Hapy Jac Not all Cannabis is sold “on the corner” in sketchy situations. When Cannabis is legal, you will be paying double for it because of the costs of production and the taxation. I’d rather give my money to small growers who are passionate about the plant as compared to a government who’s going to spend that money in wars and on stupid regulations.
@@AndreNickatlna Then the goverment need to be sure NOT to over tax it, otherwise they will be completely defeating the point of making it legal. What this doesn't tell you, which I'm fairly confident on, is that the canadian law makes it legal to grow 2 plants per household for personal use. which is fucking fantastic. If it's over taxed, people will keep obtaining it from underground sources. For the govt. to benefit from this, they need to involve professional growers and other people that have dealt with weed. possibly from Canada / other countries that have legalised it, from people that smoke it. from people that sell it. Our govt. tries to do everything themselves so they can make huge profits, in this case, thats not going to work.
N A You’re right but I can assure you governments will overtax because that’s what they do nowadays. 4 plants are allowed to be grown in Canada which is excellent and the only extremely positive part of legalization, the problem is that 4 plants isn’t enough, and the regulations surrounding the 4 plants in some provinces is burdening. Almost everyone I know obtains their Cannabis in Canada from the free market (black market) as opposed to legal shops because the cost is 2-3x less than legal cannabis and the quality is 10x better, Canada really has fucked this up royally, maybe by design. I hope the UK doesn’t follow this failed model and goes the way of Decriminalization instead of government controlled and rigged legalization
@@AndreNickatlna I do agree with you to a point. I live in Nevada where cannabis is legal across the board. The measure for recreational use was passed in November 2016 and went into effect on January 1, 2017. The only problem was YOU COULDN'T BUY IT ANY WHERE LEGALLY till July 1 in Reno/Sparks & Las Vegas and January 1, 2018 in Carson City. I can grow up to 6 plants at a time because I live more than 25 miles from a licensed dispensary. Again, the problem is YOU CAN'T BUY CLONES OR SEEDS ANY WHERE IN THE STATE LEGALLY. Counties like Douglas, where I live, don't allow any retail cannabis, but can't stop me from growing or using. To me, it would seem that the state is supporting the free market (black market). I do go to California (Lake Tahoe area) to get my clones in the Spring. Just don't look in my trunk when I cross the state line.
Canadian here, I can't even imagine it being illegal now here. I can go to the dispensary to pick up some weed just like going to the liquor store to pick up some alcohol. It's amazing how normal it has become in such a short time. I'm hoping that over time the regulations will relax, but it makes sense that the government is being strict starting off. No major economy in the world has done this and they are being careful. I predict that similarly to alcohol, we will loosen up our regulations, it just takes time.
I tried it and it's terrible I havent smoked in a month and have no desire to I believe we should strive to be a drug free society get rid of all drugs that arent prescribed through the medical system, wouldn't that be nice
@@Impaled_Onion-thatsmine Many drugs can be prescribed that easily trump cannabis when it comes to damage to your health and bad side-effects. Step outside of your own bubble for a second here and look at the facts. You not liking it is not a valid reason to say that no one else deserves to buy cannabis freely.

LEE YEREX You are 100% right and we have seen this occur in Canada. There’s still no cannabis oil or edibles for sale legally, so anyone interested in them in shit out of luck. Also Canada is putting a 10mg limit per package on edibles and a low limit of oils. This is one of the biggest policy failures in Canadian history
Even if they put a cap on the potency you can easily extract using a small bottle jack with some small steel plates heated up to the ideal temperature. Regardless of thc content you can still extract a pure form, having a lower thc content would just result in people buying more to get the same effect
Way to go BBC getting everyone so hyped and then you hit us with. " It could take 10-15 years before we see recreational use legalised" I think I would rather cut of one of my legs to get medical than wait that long.
the way I interpret this is "we gotta wait 10-15 years for the geriatric politicians to die off from heart strokes and from falling down the stairs and not being able to get back up before we can start reforming and changing laws from the 70's that those same fossils introduced" Amazing, what a democratic country we live in, where laws only get changed when the people responsible for that law die. Kinda like copyright protection, cant infringe on their law in their lifetime, let's just hope it won't be protected for another 70 years after their death.
@@a.b4714 exactly. why should i have to have anxiety attacks and have my bpd go into full drive just because i’m not allowed weed? one of the biggest gateway drugs is nicotine & alcohol period, weed is the drug that made me quit all other drugs besides my insulin. & i’m a lot healthier now mentally & physically.
Plus if it gets legalised it will be less dangerous to get. If you get it from a shop you know it’s pure weed. If you get it from a dealer they might offer you something stronger or put something in it
As a Canadian who consumes cannabis, it seems so odd for governments to still look at it like some dangerous drug. I'm so happy its as accepted as alcohol here now, even socially you'll see people smoke joints walking down the sidewalk. Its helped many people, even the CBD oils that replace pills for many older people.
Taxing cannabis would fix the NHS. And thanks to cannabis we could be/have the best medical care in the world. Imagine that. Just don't let the elitist run it. (pharmaceuticals)
NunyVanstta135 Tell me ‘issues’ that cannabis smokers have due to cannabis then. You seem like the type to be anti drug and say drug users waste tax money but then get pissed every weekend and end up in hospital.
@@nunyvanstta135 With that logic alcohol should also be illegal? Drunk drivers, domestic abuse, silly accidents, people drinking themselves to death etc all put far more strain on the NHS than weed ever and will ever have. There are no cases of weed killing anyone in the history of the whole world. What about tobacco? If it was discovered today there is no way it would be made legal. Due to the fact that it literally causes lung cancer and so many other illnesses. The only reason it remains legal is due to the tax revenue. The government could get £1billion in tax revenue from weed dispensaries per year. Think how much that could do for the NHS and all other social funding.
These people are misinformed. High THC strains do not cause mental illness. The consumer has to have a genetic pre-disposition for psychosis in order for it to be triggered and in that case, any amount of THC could cause an episode. There should not be a cap on strength/potencey. People generally want high THC strains. It just means users don't have to use as much to get the desired effects. We're all adults here. Tell us how strong it is and we (the public) will tell you if we want it or not thankyou.
Real World you literally have no idea what youre talking about lmao. You obviously dont understand how the brain works or how mental illnesses work lmao. THC can fuck ppl up regardless of their chemical imbalances present in their brain. Brings out psychosis, depersonalisation, derealisation etc

I suggest reading about sugar and how bad for you that is despite the government pushing it and creating false news and studies to push their agenda so that they can make huge amounts of money with it. its the same principle with weed, how can something go from being so bad for you suddenly become this wonderdrug that cures so many things with no repercussions. one word, "money".
lol how many Canadians watching this and smoking weed? thumbs up if you are. Also im born and raised in toronto weed is part of the culture so legalization has gone very smoothly for the customer they still need to work on the market/business side but for the consumer its amazing. That one provision is why i believe the bill was good enough and happy it passed. its exactly as that guy said in perfect Canadian form we got a B...maybe B+
All I want is to be able to grow my own and for me and my friends to enjoy it in my garden on a warm summers evening with the BBQ going. The fact that is illegal is moronic.
I’m Canadian and I always avoided weed before legalization because you didn’t know what kind of strain you’d be getting, and Id usually end up having to smoke with other people which makes me so uncomfortable. Now I can smoke a specific high THC strain that I buy from the Provincial Liquor Corporation here once every 2 weeks in my own home which gave me the depression breakthrough that Rx depression medication never could. I can’t imagine going back to the old ways.
I no longer smoke because the bad strain i got when it wasn't legal. That was the problem you never know what you got. Dealers would just say shit to make you feel okay and back off from questioning further. My friends and family im happy for though now that they'll never have to worry about getting bad weed here.
Yesterday i was arguing with someone about this exact subject, i am for legalizing it. To me the benefits seem to outweigh the negatives with a big margin.
Putting a cap on potency is okay as long as it’s not to low, I think it’d mean most existing moderate users wouldn’t find the benefit in legal low potency marijuana, let’s face it unless your a newbie your not gunna settle for weak ass smoke when “black market” bud is still going to be as widely available and most likely will become either stronger or cheaper to compete with the legal market. if anything put a limit on the potency of alcohol, got all these MPs over here acting like they’re out here for the safety of the public when it comes to legalising marijuana, when we still have Doctors prescribing (STRONG) opioids to the people who need investigation into their symptoms with real answers/treatment & to people waiting for operation dates making big Pharmaceutical companies millions up on millions a year not to mention the amount of over prescribed medications to mental health patients which just causing the rate of people struggling with addiction to increase I mean it’s as easy as going to the doctors with “moderate pain in a shoulder, hip or back and you’ve bagged yourself a script for 30 Tramadol and the more people that become dependent on prescription medication the more money the government And shareholders or big Pharmaceutical company’s make so I’m sure they’re likely to drag out legalisation for a couple more years yet to really milk the money pot and fill their greedy pockets while continuing to overprescribe prescription drugs to patients that could have used medical cannabis as an alternative form of treatment with less side effects and a “LOWER” chance of addiction, guess we just pray that old Boris pulls his finger out of his arse and starts making real changes instead of diverting the public’s attention away from real world issue with constant Brexit talk. 🤷♀️🤦♀️

KAT Erwhall Canada’s cannabis legalization is the biggest policy failure in history. You haven’t studied it enough if you’re advocating for this approach.
@@AndreNickatlna The approach is fine, the execution has problems. besides we are the second nation to legalize. cut us some slack while we work out the kinks.
14:50 the only reason psychosis is talked about so much in the uk is because they’re frantically looking for any reason to call cannabis bad, whereas in canada they don’t need to paint a bad picture so they don’t have to lie about it.
@Graham Moore "Skunk". What even is that? It's a media buzzword that means nothing. Actual Skunk is one average strength strain that came out 30 years ago and the name was taken by lying media to sensationalise what is ordinary weed, to try and pretend there's this new variant that causes harm to people. There's no such thing as ''skunk'' any more. Where weed is legal in countries like Canada, America, Spain, Holland, Portugal, etc, there is stronger weed than the old Skunk No 1 strain that came out in the 90's. Don't fall for lying media and their buzzwords. The psychosis argument is very weak because in ALL cases, the person who got mental issues after smoking cannabis just so happened to have always had those issues.
I’m bipolar and know that because of this I should not smoke as I could risk having a manic episode with psychosis, but that’s on the bipolar not the weed! I also don’t consume caffeine or drink or stay up late and try to avoid getting too excited for the same reason, those things shouldn’t be banned simply because they could cause psychosis in someone like me, whose brain basically can make it’s own drugs. I do however want it to be more well known that it can negatively effect people just like anything, particularly with certain mental illnesses. There is nothing wrong with informing of the risks of any drug, medicinal or recreational. Anything can become a problem, from too much junk food to too much exercise and even too much of a good mood is bad (bipolar mania can be the ultimate euphoria but can have really bad consequences).
@@SuperNoseFace my cousin is bipolar and it's the opposite for her. It depends on you and how your disease manifests and I'm proud that you know yourself enough to know that! You're awesome! I spent a year studying abroad in Canada. It’s remarkable the respect that the cannabis has by its users in the country. It’s well managed; you walk into dispensaries that are run like Apple Stores and buyers know exactly what they’re buying, making it much safer. It also allows the reallocation of police resources. Moreover, it’s more tempting to stay at home, high, instead of going out, drunk, reducing the amount of drunk and disorderly in the streets. The UK must legalise cannabis in order to have a positive control on the substance. It’s a unique product. It is not a drug in the way we use the word. It’s as much of a drug as alcohol
It's a strange one. In the UK they always refer to Cannabis with higher THC levels as "Skunk". Loads of ignorant people here genuinely don't understand how cannabis works. They will say normal weed and Skunk like it's in a separate category. Some unique form. Completely daft.
@@TheAArmstrong That'll be the hysterical Daily Mail's fault. They are fucking obsessed with "skunk", knives, celebrity bikinis and homosexuals. The "Daily Hatemail" as I call it.
I think what he meant by Skunk is high potency cannabis . Cannabis with very high thc somewhere around 23 percent thc and zero cbd . The cbd makes a difference. The cbd binds to the same cannabenoid receptors in the brain as thc . The cbd makes the high a more pleasurable experience for me .
You get diffrent families of weed like (skunk) and (haze) (cookies) (OG's) if you dont understand then you shouldn't be smoking weed. No hate on the beginners there diffrent and just need guidance.
Supply issues are no longer a problem where I live on the east coast. Even during this pandemic, I'm able to easily get cannabis at my nearest grocery store. It's quite convent actually.
As an American, living in a medically legal state with a medical card, I highly recommend legalization. Dispensaries I go to have strains that let you know what it is you are buying. Some have edibles and concentrates but are well regulated. The state I live in also made $5 million dollars in a single year from tax revenue and they’re expecting even more this year.
UN has just passed Cannabis as less dangerous. The time to legalise it in the UK is now. Tax it. The government can make a billion pounds a year from cannabis sales tax. Everyone smokes it anyway.
Just because they gave me a nice treat, I've decided to shout em out. Order from richmondgreenbudshouse.com They've got got rates and excellent customer service team
Decriminalize not legalized - then the corporate cant take market over like they have here in Canada. Its a shame for the many growers with years of experience get kicked in the ass. Street weed is still best quality and much cheaper, most users have returned to street weed. Shops can do the fancy stuff.
I think that street weed is rather bad quality in most parts of the world, and the North America is the exception. Anyway, we must not fight over this issue. Anything but prohibition.
nah. decriminalization wouldn't let me grow weed in my backyard. full on legalization is the best idea. and those 'underground' growers who are being 'squeezed out of the market' - start a company bro and go legit. go back to school and get a degree in biology and get a corporate job. personally, i don't give a rat's ass about those people as long as i can grow my cannabis trees in my backyard.
Here in NY it's happening already. Oh Long Island, there's currently one place opened... and it's holding up other people getting licenses in court I'm pretty sure. They're making a killing, so they can do whatever.
4 years on and uk still in the dark ages with a increasing problem with weed being sprayed with allsorts of rubbish. Me and you would be jailed for a bit of gardening whilst the ex home secretary's husband can profit from that same gardening..
Well this is actaully fantastic. Wonderful work all around. Love how you guys came here to Canada to see how we're doing things. I hope you enjoyed your stay in our beautiful country. 😁♥
As a Canadian that gets bombarded with American politics it nice to see politicians that are actually trying to serve their constituants instead of their own self interest
And cannabis can not be detected on a breath test. If you test the blood you can get a THC level, but THC blood level is not a real sign of impairment: So the "drug driving" issue is a real issue and people are trying to figure out how to tackle it.
In my opinion it should be treated more like fatigued driving than drunk driving. Weed doesn't completely remove your motor skills for hours the way alcohol does. I don't want people smoking and driving at the same time, because sometimes you can have a disorienting head rush when you take a big hit. Other than that, you have to be REALLY stoned to be at a point where you're a danger on the road. People can drive fine with a little buzz and they know that, so a law telling them they can't won't do anything, especially since you can't measure it. Like fatigue, you kind of have to leave it up to people to decide that line for themselves. Obviously you still take people off the road when they're demonstrating they're unfit to drive, but it's not like you're automatically arrested if you're pulled over for a broken headlight and tell the officer you only got five hours of sleep last night.
They legalized it in Canada and nothing has changed. You just see people use it at night time after work. I haven't even heard of any accidents caused by it. Basically no different that alcohol
I gave up smoking cannabis over a year ago (mainly because I lost touch with my dealer), I wasn't addicted at all and had no problems stopping smoking it after 20 years of non stop use...since then though i've had real trouble sleeping, problems with my joints in my knees from when I played football for 18 years and i've also put on much more weight without even changing my diet at all, ive also had digestion problems and skin problems. I've decided i'm going to start growing it myself soon, I don't care if it's "ILLEGAL' anymore, my health comes first. All the police are doing is enforcing some uneducated, un-researched, ill informed, bigoted, bureaucratic politicians view of a plant which they have been brainwashed as a child into thinking it's the devils drug....IT'S NOT! These politicians are quite hypocritically happy to drink heavily subsidized alcohol in their purposely built bar in the middle of the houses of parliament whilst playing with the future of the country from their pedestals of power, but won't even engage in a civil conversation about the benefits of cannabis....financially, medically and recreationally. I'm a 50 year old adult for goodness sake, why can't I smoke a natural plant that has so many health benefits including helping with sleep loss, weight loss, digestion problems etc? What gives anyone the right to tell me what I can and can't do in the privacy of my own home if it causes no harm to others? I don't like alcohol at all.....it does not agree with my body or mind. Why is it legal for a person to drink themselves into a stupor if they so choose but illegal for me to smoke a joint or two with my partner before we go to bed at night? It's ridiculous how warped the minds of the people who make the laws are. I'm sick of them. They do NOT represent the will and wants of the people at all, they serve only themselves. Well it's time I done the same....my mind is made up. Come and arrest me if you really want to waste more public tax money on a fifty year old man who is going to grow for personal use only, does no harm to anyone else, just wants a good nights sleep and a healthier body and mind. I certainly won't get that through alcohol. No one has EVER died from taking cannabis...just so you know....millions die every year as a result of alcohol. Go figure.
@@TheWunder Sounds exactly like you have NO experience with taking cannabis at all. If you did then you'd know better and be more self aware than to type a silly comment like that. If you have NO experience then you should really refrain from giving opinions on things you know nothing about.
as someone from the US, it’s sad how surprising it is for politicians from different parties to all have the people’s best interest in mind and just be civil with each other
For instance in Eastern Europe growing and possession of cannabis was totally legal, without any restrictions until 1997 for thousands of years. It was never a problem, but a part of a culture.
Quite a lot of missunderstanding on both the govs as well as BBC's end. Maybe I can enlighten you both about the details so y'all can smoke up happily after :)
25:13 "Why is so much of the cannabis available in Canada so strong, especially with those links we keep talking about to mental health issues?" This tells me you missed a crucial part of your research: talking to consumers. THC levels are high because that's what people want to buy. That's how demand works in a market based on supply and demand. And that's why THC limits only encourage the persistence of the black market. If you want people to shop at legal stores, you have to outcompete the black market by offering good quality product at reasonable prices. And if you're going to legalize it for responsible adult use, you have to give the adult control over their own consumption and trust that they can regulate it responsibly. Forcing people to buy low quality cannabis will just encourage them to smoke more to achieve the same effect, which is the real health concern since they're ingesting more smoke into their lungs. People aren't worried about "mental health issues" because the psychosis the UK media is hyping up is so rare. You're so laser-focused on the rare mental health risks that you completely ignore all the mental health benefits it has for people suffering from things like anxiety and depression, and it probably never even occurred to you that the risk-benefit analysis might turn out to be more benefit than risk for most people.
Don't make the same mistake as Canada when it comes to pricing. On average it's $9 CAD per gram (5.60 GBP) for the government controlled/ sold cannabis vs $5.75 CAD (3.58 GBP) for "grey" market cannabis. Price is the main reason for folks still using the black and grey markets in my opinion.
5.60 a gram is a fine price, you pay £30 for 3.5g where I'm at. I would pay even double the price for not being criminal and the guaranteed access is what people mainly want it legalised for.
Before it was legal I was paying $10 CAD a gram. Buying for personal use was more expensive then bulk buyers looking to deal it away. The pricing is completely fine right now.
Legalization would probably see a great dip in alcohol related crime and hospital admissions that spike every weekend. Have people selling weed outside pubs and clubs at closing hour and the only problem will be even longer ques at the chicken shop and taxi drivers complaining when their passengers are unconscious when they arrive at their destination. Cannabis is social and calm. People need to stop telling adults what they can and can't consume.
Canadian: the guy at the end is right, what u seen was the horrible beginning, but now it is way better. The prices are ideal for competing with the illegal market, so a lot of ppl converted to the legal stores. Only thing that still sucks about the legal stores is the edibles limit being 10mg a package, which leads to a lot of garbage, and a lot of people just ordering from MoM (mail order marijuana) that are selling way higher thc edibles 😐
As a Canadian, this didn't change much.. its a bit more convenient to purchase now, but not much else changes... btw, I'm 55, and have been smoking weed since I was a teenager.... I have a great career/life.. but beware of the impact on your energy that weed brings.. it can be a huge DEMOTIVATOR and keep you on the couch more than you would ideally want it to.. cheers and enjoy!!
Iv never had any problems sourcing cannabis in the uk so it doesn't really matter.it would be nice to be able to choose from a variety of buds in a shops but i can generally get anything I need so the only people losing out are the government not getting their tax.
Missed opportunity to swing by Montreal! Here all legal shops are owned by the Quebec government, I suspect this is a model that the UK would get behind a lot more than a private for profit industry...

it saddens me that they didn't talk about the reservations here in Canada and how they have been allowed to sell weed in stores like the one we saw closing down without any government or police intervention. i am strongly for legalizing weed in Britain i think it's practically harmless and definitely less harmful than smoking cigarettes or drinking.

This group want to regulate regulate regulate for profit and taxes and we know how that goes. Positive - young adults dont get criminal record, Canada is now offering to pardon previous mj related offences for individuals. Many ppl benefit from cannabis for one reason or another. There are NO side effects, no one ever died or overdosed on cannabis. Policing can be used better elsewhere, than on charging ppl for a bit of cannabis. Typically the youngsters of today know more about cannabis than most doctors, medical researchers and scientists. The 'unlicensed' stores/growers usually do the same testing for their cannabis and label it as does the licensed producer. They take pride in good product, as they should! While corporates only care about profit. The more knowledge ppl have of the plant uses, the less stigma there will be around usage. This is particularly true and necessary for those who choose a natural alternative with many medical uses. Cannabis is already known to be a positive remedy for cancer. Bear in mind that chemo only has 2.7% efficacy rate and massive awful side effects. Which would you want your loved ones to use as treatment? Negative - the gvmt over regulates, massive taxes and do not have suitable road side testing unlike alcohol for example. So You cannot use while working... fair enough... unfortunately if you had a smoke over the weekend say, you would still show the cannaboids in your system, should you be randomly tested at work. Even though there are no effects by then that would impair an individual. Also testing does not differentiate between THC and CBD, I believe. Some authorities in Canada have already banned its use at public events. The increasingly High THC levels are NOT good, it is too much for the brain system and unnecessary, and can cause unwanted effects. Applies especially to teens. since they are still having brain development. Additionally these plants are forced into upgraded levels, is that GMO? Originally the cannabis plant was a much more balanced ratio of THC/CBD which is probably best for most ppl. There is a lot more I could say in positive section but not much more on negative, other than emphasize over-regulation. Pay attention to government issued questionnaires or proposed legislation that allows public responses, prior to implementation. Be heard. Apologies for the long comment but I needed to say it.
They talk about the few cases of psychosis in England this being due to poorly grown, sprayed, unregulated Canabis. They never talk about how every weekend the nhs is over run with people with alcohol induced psychosis.
I've seen drug exchanges where I work (petrol station, pretty good place to make a trade it seems). Seen cocaine being traded, and heard it being snorted - only the same guy though. Worst part is, the dude snorting it drives.
"best way to find out the quality of cannabis is to consume it." (Takes hit) "Thats good weed" Im sure if i smoked that shit my analysis would be similar...
The whole idea that this plant is so dangerous is absolutely ridiculous. How is it any different to alcohol and how much more damaging isn’t the effects of alcoholism? This plant can cure so many illnesses and offer so much relief for so many people. Why isn’t this legal EVERYWHERE?!?
It only makes sense to legalize it. As the last MP said, it's already legal from a medicinal POV so why not make it legal for all? Just make sure it's regulated and don't go in the direction that Canada did and make it too difficult to get some of the good stuff.
It’s also a plant you wouldn’t stop someone from smoking a oak tree 😂 and you let people some cigarettes which have shit like rocket fuel and rat poison in? Wtf it’s just makes you feel better and clears the mind
It's ridiculous in the UK right now. If we legalize, we can tax. We can add health warnings or messages to packaging and containers for the 10-15% people who end up having some sort of problem with it (I still debate this figure, but it seems to be a trend in stats) - the other added bonus that literally no one discusses, is we will inspire youth to have some agricultural skills. If we're going to grow and supply it for general sale, we're going to need people to grow it. If we've got people, young or old, growing in plantations for legal sale - we could inspire people to go on and grow other plants, or produce. At the very least, the time is now to decriminalize - the MP at the start says people who do knife crime etc, have all started out on weed. While that COULD be true, the likelihood is if we'd left them just to smoke a bit of pot every now and then, they'd be at home, eating cheetos and not knifing a soul. The shit I have to go through to get hold of a little herb is mental, and I hate it - I can go to a shop and get cigarettes, and booze, and slowly erode and destroy my body, but if I want a bit of plant that doesn't fucking hurt me, and just helps me unwind and relax, I have to meet strangers in dark places, cars, I have to use the dark web, it's just, fucking mental.
Excellent video. Sound points raised. The critical issue is when buying off the street you never know what you’re getting. By decriminalising it it can be grown organically, the potencies known, and each person can regulate exactly what they need without overdoing it and tripping into a psychotic episode, just Like happens with alcohol when people overdo it.
Legalise it, tax it, then we can get the strains we actually want. If it remains illegal we will all continue to buy it and growers will continue growing regardless
Exactly bro
The questions are:
Do you want cannabis sold in a controlled and regulated shop
or from the corner drug-dealer?
Do you want the money from the sell of cannabis to go to local businesses and governments
or to foreign cartels and street gangs?
Almost everyone I know obtains their Cannabis in Canada from the free market (black market) as opposed to legal shops because the cost is 2-3x less than legal cannabis and the quality is 10x better,
Canada really has fucked this up royally, maybe by design.

It's amazing how normal it has become in such a short time. I'm hoping that over time the regulations will relax, but it makes sense that the government is being strict starting off. Well cannabis stop's you from getting covid 19. Only cure in the whole wide world.
These people are misinformed. High THC strains do not cause mental illness. The consumer has to have a genetic pre-disposition for psychosis in order for it to be triggered and in that case, any amount of THC could cause an episode.

"how do we police drug driving?" well let me think, alcohol is legal and a drug and can be found on a breath test
And cannabis can not be detected on a breath test. If you test the blood you can get a THC level, but THC blood level is not a real sign of impairment: So the "drug driving" issue is a real issue and people are trying to figure out how to tackle it.
you didnt think very hard
Legalize weed, there's nothing wrong with it, just don't buy from criminals. It's helps cure anxiety.
I will pick up my weed at the post office from the Canadian government tomorrow.
Poe don’t rub it in

I just want to go to a shop and have all the info everywhere Instead of meeting some random guy in the street at random times
Go figure.
sounds exactly like withdrawal symptoms. means you were addicted
@@TheWunder Sounds exactly like you have NO experience with taking cannabis at all. If you did then you'd know better and be more self aware than to type a silly comment like that. If you have NO experience then you should really refrain from giving opinions on things you know nothing about.
100% with you !!
Legalise it.

as someone from the US, it’s sad how surprising it is for politicians from different parties to all have the people’s best interest in mind and just be civil with each other
For instance in Eastern Europe growing and possession of cannabis was totally legal, without any restrictions until 1997 for thousands of years. It was never a problem, but a part of a culture.
Quite a lot of missunderstanding on both the govs as well as BBC's end. Maybe I can enlighten you both about the details so y'all can smoke up happily after :)
25:13 "Why is so much of the cannabis available in Canada so strong, especially with those links we keep talking about to mental health issues?"
This tells me you missed a crucial part of your research: talking to consumers.
I agree with u it should be priced around that price shame here in he UK a gram is 10 GBP so it will either be slightly less or a bit more
5.60 per gram is a great price!
Exactly
Just legalise it already goddamn.
Decriminalize it!
It's all ready basically decriminalized. Legalization us the way to go as that will allow stores to start selling product.
They should at least put cannabis back to a class C while we're waiting for recreational use
Just make it legal. Minor sales taxes with minimal health oversight.
I have a great career/life.. but beware of the impact on your energy that weed brings.. it can be a huge DEMOTIVATOR and keep you on the couch more than you would ideally want it to.. cheers and enjoy!!
why the hell is this age restricted?
Love the BBC for making documentaries like this
Iv never had any problems sourcing cannabis in the uk so it doesn't really matter.it would be nice to be able to choose from a variety of buds in a shops but i can generally get anything I need so the only people losing out are the government not getting their tax.
Waiting to have a huge celebration when its legal

Missed opportunity to swing by Montreal! Here all legal shops are owned by the Quebec government, I suspect this is a model that the UK would get behind a lot more than a private for profit industry...
Although Quebec was a bit too conservative when it refused to allow home growing. Eight provinces allow it and we don’t hear that it became an issue.

Give the people what they want! Theres nothing wrong with smoking a spliff when compared to what alcohol does to poeples minds and the destruction it has on the body. And cigarettes dont exactly help people in anyway at all! THC, CBD, CBN,THVC and all terpes are all good. We need a new younger government with a fresh outlook on the country's prohibitions and economic benefits. Living in the uk really sucks at times.
TAX TAX TAX that's the only reason they want to legalise it
Dave Klonpenberg agreed
Yeah but don’t legalise walking down the street smokin it. Not fair to have people filling the streets with the stench. I don’t smoke. I hate the smell of it. So Ok legalise it, but respect others too.
Complaining about high thc levels is stoopid and I'll tell you why: certain types of alcohol have different alcohol percentages you would drink a pint of beer not a pint of vodka

it saddens me that they didn't talk about the reservations here in Canada and how they have been allowed to sell weed in stores like the one we saw closing down without any government or police intervention. i am strongly for legalizing weed in Britain i think it's practically harmless and definitely less harmful than smoking cigarettes or drinking.

10:48 "Regulate it, control it, TAX IT 😃" lmao
I’m young but I hope they realise they will get rid of a lot drug dealers cos ppl only deal weed
I've seen drug exchanges where I work (petrol station, pretty good place to make a trade it seems).

Because there a lot of nutters in this world that's why

i wanna invite some mps over and sink some cones with em show them gods greatest plant
It's a natural resource,if it wasn't meant to be used by anyone,it would be manmade....like alcohol.
89MazzaUK perfectly said.
This Going Too Be Good 😀😃
Excellent video. Sound points raised. The critical issue is when buying off the street you never know what you’re getting. By decriminalising it it can be grown organically, the potencies known, and each person can regulate exactly what they need without overdoing it and tripping into a psychotic episode, just Like happens with alcohol when people overdo it.
