Keep in mind that if you have base stations and vive trackers already that this can be used with ANY non base station tracked headset, it's just gonna work best with the quest 2 because of the wireless vr and it escapes Zucks tracking
actually, you can put the quest in between 2 ipd settings, it stays in place fine. Although it would be better to have an external ipd slider to really test it out.
So quest 2 headset 300$, base stations for 300$ Index controllers for 280$, Audio strap for quest 2 around 100$, and possible Link cable for 80$ plus whatever those trackers cost ya. Cool experiment for people who already own some of these components though. For PC VR ive used both headsets and the clarity of the Index and Quest 2 seem to be about the same due to the quest 2's compression but with a lower FOV. The stand alone experience is really cool on the quest and i love bringing it to friends houses for beat saber and other games so no diss on that device. Just letting people who are unaware know if you only want PCVR its better to look elsewhere unless you are cool with a few compromises. The Index is an older device but still a very good one with great clarity in motion due to the frame rate while also not being incredibly hard to run cause the resolution is lower. The oculus touch controllers are great as well if you want to have a fun experience. for 300 dollars as opposed to 1000.

also for my Vive didn´t work, I'm trying to make it track with 2.0 base stations which are not compatible with the Vive, put the lines of code there and the screen just looks white
I left this video with no understanding whatsoever of how to align the view point after the modification to where it was prior to that. What if the tracker is on top of the headset, what if it's on the back of the head? How do you deal with that?
So for a mounting situation just a 3 point mounting clip on the controllers should work, two of the clips on the thumbatick side of the rings and one clip at the top
Oh this would be great if combined with the Haptic Gloves that Lucas VRTech is building (Since it's less bulky to have a Tundra tracker than a Quest 2 Joystick)
Personally, I don't see it as big of an upgrade as you do, since I don't really see the benefit of having hand tracking behind my back. As in, I can't think of many circumstances where I would be in VR and need to put my hands behind my back. The only circumstance I can think of, is in Skyrim when pulling out a sword from behind my back, or arrows, but that works just fine since it's not like I need to put my hand fully behind my back to do it. So what is the actual benefit then? How would it help my VR experience? Plus keep in mind how expensive everything would cost. When you start buying base stations and trackers after buying a quest 2, you are going to start getting into the price range where you should have just purchased an Index instead. Right?
You can do funky poses on VR chat lol. But yeah, I agree, definitely not worth it to spend so much for so little, I guess he kinda forgot about the cost since he has them on hands anyways.

Thank you so much, I always wanted to use the valve index controllers, but didn't wanna buy the headset itself. Don't get me wrong, it's amazing that I don't have to set up any kind of base stations to play VR, but full body tracking and now valve controllers will definetly make the quest 2 feel like a high end headset, which it kinda will be, because of the added cost of the added costs. I think with this knowledge, you can finnaly use quest 2 FBT with index controllers without using extra dongles or openvr space calibrator :D as long as you have 1 extra tracker to use as your "headset"
And I recently upgraded to full body tracking for my quest 2 (it's amazing, tho I have to calibrate), this videos makes a lot of things even more possible. I might as well upgrade to valve controllers later.
I can finally play Pavlov with proper calibration, I use a Quest 1 with wireless with index controllers and 3 vive trackers, sadly I can’t use full body now that I would use a tracker as a headset tracker and I can’t use my quest controllers as elbow trackers anymore since they aren’t tracked either but I can always just use OpenVR calibration for VRC. Thanks for the vid!
The quest 2 can technically track in the dark when you have base stations on because they produce infrared light. At least the 1.0 base stations do I do not own 2.0 so I have no idea I assume the function much the same though. The biggest benefit of doing this though is no longer having to re-calibrate my goddamn controllers every time I take off my headset.
So I'm trying this out currently and the "headset" seems to track properly for the most part but I can't see much since I am able to see the tracker itself. Also depending on where I look, sometimes my view flips upside down. Is there a fix for this? I really want to use the Quest 2 as my main headset but OVR Space Calibrator is such a pain imo so I haven't been.
We have made history, and all you need is 7,000+ Dollars minimum to make your 300 dollar headset track a little better! (No hate, I love your vids, just messing around)
This wouldn't work for me. The view was upside down and counter-rotating to my head as if the tracker should have been placed on the back of the headset? I was also unable to complete room setup as my controllers were misaligned to steamvr somehow. I have index controllers but couldn't use them for the room setup for some reason. Any advice?
Hey guys! My name is Trennon and I'm observing the VR community on UA-cam for a research project (I love VR btw). Would anyone like to give their opinion on what they think of the VR UA-cam community and how they think it is important for the advancement of VR as a whole?
I am attempting to set up my Valve Base Stations (plugged into power and green) but cannot get them to show up in steam VR. Steam VR > Base Station Settings > please enable bluetooth to access wireless features such as base station power management and updates > view bluetooth settings > bluetooth not available but my bluetooth is on and working connected to other devices like my headphones. Steam VR has worked fine using my quest 2 and virtual desktop streamer. In addition I am attempting to pair my tundra trackers to the valve base stations using my oculus quest 2 and virtual desktop streamer. My issue is connecting the base stations initially. Thank you for all of your help in advance.
What I see in the headset is not properly aligned rotationally. The view is on my right. If I rotate the tracker manually so that it sits on edge on the front of the HMD, I can align the view like that, but then the location and orientation changes are misaligned.

if i had just one hooked up to the headset and just used the normal quest 2 controllers
The quest 2 can technically track in the dark when you have base stations on because they produce infrared light. At least the 1.0 base stations do I do not own 2.0 so I have no idea I assume the function much the same though. The biggest benefit of doing this though is no longer having to re-calibrate my goddamn controllers every time I take off my headset.
thats actually insane! might get tundras for this. i hate zucks tracking.
Any advice?
down below where??? the line of code....
Steam VR > Base Station Settings > please enable bluetooth to access wireless features such as base station power management and updates > view bluetooth settings > bluetooth not available
but my bluetooth is on and working connected to other devices like my headphones.
This is really cool, but I'm tired of tech tutorials using hardware that I can't buy. Everything is sold out nowadays.
Why couldn't you just use two Android phones as optical trackers linked by the oculus app and software for tracking.
What I see in the headset is not properly aligned rotationally. The view is on my right. If I rotate the tracker manually so that it sits on edge on the front of the HMD, I can align the view like that, but then the location and orientation changes are misaligned.
"tropical loophole" advert that's playing on your video is somewhat hilariously bad. Paused it 1s into the advert - looks like a woman aiming a green tipped schlong hairdryer up her skirt.
Full title is "tropical loophole dissolves fat overnight". YT dictates if a channel is suitable for monetization yet don't give a hoots whose money they take for advertising.
Would you happen to be able to share if there are performance penalties to driving VR this way? I use Quest 2 through Virtual Desktop exclusively, I previously tried using Mixed VR with Quest 2 headset and lighthouse tracked Index controllers and noticed higher latency/lower FPS than if I just used Quest 2. Would you happen to have any info on performance comparison of this setup you've shared in this video vs Virtual Desktop w/ Quest 2 vs Virtual Desktop Mixed VR Quest 2 + Index?
How do you connect the base stations and trackers to your quest? Im fairly new to FBT, but have 2.0 pucks and two 2.0 basestations?
base stations 210 euro a pop. controllers 799 a set . tundra ? couple hundred bucks. tell me again why should I do this ? so untop of the meta quest you need another 1500 bucks to do this XD ill pass
Ok if it can track in the dark why can't they just put light house tracking on the headset itself I mean no one's gonna be carrying their pc with them the whole time.
I really wish there was a way to make use of my cv1 camera trackers. They sit on my walls unused since I switched to Q2 for PCVR.
I have no intentions of buying steamVR base stations and controllers though. As nice as it would be, it aint worth it for someone who doesn't already have some and can manage fine with the inside out tracking and quest controllers.
wait so by doing this, I won't ever have to recalibrate while doing full body tracking on VRchat?
Can someone please tell me will oculus quest 2 work with 7 vive trackers 3.0 in same time? I already have 3 vive trackers and it works fine but i want to buy more 4 trackers to make it 7
Now we just need base stations that aren't as expensive as the headset itself.
If you have Index contolers, base stations and tundra trackers you may as well just get a Index headset. This is cool but ultimately pointless and really out of reach for most average users.
Hey dude, make a suit, i think that has potencial... you can make a full body tracking suit easly...
