Mineral Oil in an Intex Whale

- In this video I take an Intex whale and use mineral oil to make the toy's vinyl become stiff and firm. I put 16 ounces of mineral oil into the whale, spread it around inside the toy, and then wait a few weeks for it to take effect. The toy become significantly stiffer and the vinyl is crinkly. When over inflated the toy gets firmer as opposed to stretching larger.

I had a bunch of troll posts on the video where I put plasticizer in an Intex whale to soften it. The trolls were telling people that mineral oil will do the same thing. I knew that it would not so I figured I should show how it actually does the opposite.
Plan on to show some methods of heat stretching?
I really want to cuddle this cutie.
Are there any safe chemicals i can put into an inflatable that will it prevent it from stretching like the mineral oil does but won't do damage to it?
i have some old intex alligators and i love the softness of the vinyl but i don't like how the head gets stretched over time and becomes fat from stretching. is there any way to safely prevent this?
How do you figure out this kind of stuff? Do you constantly experiment, or do you have some sort of degree in chemical engineering to find out how this stuff affects the toys?
I knew that oils can cause toys to get stiff. Sometimes stiff enough the vinyl becomes brittle. I figured I would just give it a try with mineral oil and see what happened.
what are the benefits of doing this to an inflatable?
what are the issues that can occur of doing this to an inflatable?
I don't think I would recommend doing this to an inflatable as it makes the vinyl stiff and less flexible.
@@HeathDragon would it shorten the life of the vinal or make it a bit more wear resistant
HELP FRIEND HEATH DRAGON: The main wing of my inflatable intex whale already has many patches and is losing air. HOW CAN I CUT THIS WING????
On some Inflatables I used to have, I got face oils on them and it was a pain to get the face/body oils out, I wipe off the oils with a cloth however the oils came back on the inflatable few hours later, I then cleaned the oils off with a wet towel and again the oils just came back a few hours later, I then wash the oils off with soap and water and even that didn't work because the next day the oils came back. The only time I actually managed to get face oils out of inflatables is by putting the inflatables in the bathtub and turning on the shower to its highest temperature, I kept scrubbing and rinsing over and over again until I think I have done enough cleaning, after I clean them I take them outside and let them dry in the Sun to soften up. I tried this technique again recently however it didn't work for some reason, if you know or find a way to get face/body oils out of inflatables, please post
It's plasticized from the vinyl itself
Hello, very cool experiment! Do you know whether the plasticizer in the original toy was replaced by mineral oil, or it was just extracted because of the mineral oil? Some of my toys were getting this issue because of my human body oil and I don't know whether plasticizer will be able to fix it or not. Thanks my friend! :D
Plasticizer should be able to fix that, but it might take longer time or more plasticizer than the unaffected vinyl.
@@HeathDragon That's so cool, thanks!!!
Awesome video wonder how long that whale will last with that oil would like to buy it from you
what will methylated spirits do to an inflatable ??
Check out the video where I put a mixture of MEK and acetone in an Intex whale: ua-cam.com/video/rcqVVizrxdE/v-deo.html
Will is change the strenght of the whale when you do that?
I would imagine this would increase the strength of it. It would probably be more likely to crack now however.
@@HeathDragon I need to try this with some toys, I have syringes I can use to put the mineral oil in the toy.
@@HeathDragon I wonder if there is a way to make these toys stronger.
I have a video where I reinforce a toy with strips of vinyl glued along the inside of the seams.
I would say it will make the toy weaker because stretching relieves stress from the seams, and the seams are the weak point of any toy.
Interesting
Huh, not the result i would have expected
It's a good thing he did the experiment to show that it actually hardens the vinyl and advise anyone against using mineral oil on vinyl products. You would google on how to soften vinyl car seats, furniture and other vinyl goods suggesting using mineral oil that supposedly soften the material. If you wanna soften vinyl seats that became hardened by skin oils and heat, use Sculpey clay softener!
I got inflatable index whale
should see what other things make it soft
