    This was a good interview. Trang touched on all the important points about language learning. I learned a while back that it is better to learn a language from a non-native speaker (in Trang's case Vietnamese teachers); They are better able to explain the language rules rather than depend on intuitive experience. I suspect Trang naturally has a good ear for languages. Her English accent is better than some anglophones I know. That is not to underestimate the amount of hard work required to learn a language. Trang is not only beautiful, but very smart. Tyler you are a lucky man. I think choosing Chinese over Italian is a smart idea because she won't be able to practise her Italian much in Vietnam.

    I've spent my career in language acquisition and her English proficiency is remarkable, especially for someone who has not studied abroud. If she is still wanting to improve, the ONLY aspect of her speech that I could pick up on that differs from native on a regular basis is the 'th' when it occurs mid - word ofr mid-phrase. "anudder" instead of "another". "use dem" instead of "use them". "For da better" instead of "For the better". Very minor, and I had to listen without looking at the video to catch it. Her grammar, syntax, vocab are all superb. Thanks for sharing!

    • @BigTimeBentley

      She sometimes skips the last consonant sounds like s, z, t, etc. But many native Americans do that too. Usually, Americans skip these sounds in the middel of a sentence but will pronounce it at the last word(s). The Brits don't do that. It is just for speed. There is a term for it that I do not recall now.

      To a large degree I think it comes down to a level of “what’s the point? The world defaults to a let’s speak English with each other for diplomacy purposes and we speak English already.” -type of mentality. So that discourages effort. But I do think a lot of people miss out on a sense of accomplishment that comes from learning another language, not to mention missing out on the ability to communicate with so many more people you wouldn’t be able to communicate without learning another language; not connecting with other cultures in a more enriching way, and so on. There’s actually a lot to unpack with regards to your curiosity on the subject, and I’m glad you took the time to post the comment. Hope you’re doing well Coggins

    I really admire Trang’s character to be a successful
    young independent person. However I think she belongs to the lucky class that can afford to pay for education because VN does not put big importance in education. When all the kids could afford to go to school free of charge between level 1 and level 12?
    Why kids have to stay home to assist their parents because they cannot afford to pay all the miscellaneous fees that they should not pay?
    What is the reason they could not do it and what Trang would do if she’s appointed as Minister of Education?

    • @BigTimeBentley
      @BigTimeBentley  5 місяців тому

      yeah some people are more privileged than others. the richest here in Vietnam send their kids to international schools that cost 20+ thousand USD per year. Trang was educated in public schools her whole life at a very low cost to her family and really made the most of her opportunities...I'm really proud of her for that. Unfortunately not everyone is blessed with the same opportunities but hopefully we can all do a little something to help others in less fortunate situations

      Her English is good, but she still mispronounced some of the words if we truly paid attention (i.e grammar sounds like grandma). The way she speaks also has a very weird flow, flat tonal, it's like she doesn't know how to denote/stress words in a sentence, and arrange them in an incorrect sequence. The positives are she has an American as a bf so she can keep learning and improving, and how she gets to use them on a daily basis.
