Beautiful new photo collage on your YT homepage Richard. You talk passionately about the TVR Chimaera. Finally an explanation of how the door mechanism works on this TVR.
Just picked up a Chim, bought it from a mate who has owned it since 2001, L reg Cooper Green, it’s old and needs love, but it’s brilliant. The other cars its nemesis….a 3.2S Boxster 😂
Dip-galvanising is a risky business as some people have (apparently) had the chassis distort due to the heat. You also have to drill holes all over it. When I have the chassis' done, I have them spray-galvanised, which is zero-risk (just costs a bit more) and then 2k painted. The cheapest way is just to powder coat them again, and surprise-surprise, they don't last very long!
@@UPnDOWN interesting - I saw somebody on the web galvanize dip their esprit chassis and was amazed how cheap it was ( less than £200) ...and wondered why everyone didnt do it..then I recalled someone way back when saying, it can distort things, even just doing suspension components. Even plating can, I am told. I have a low mileage original 92 Griff 4.3 and, despite being dry driven and stored (mainly stored!) now needs the suspension components sprucing up Its only surface rust and flaky paint - could u give a guide as to cost for such smaller items - who would u recommend - do they do the 2k too? ...dont suppose u have an LT77 92 Griff speedo sensor? ;) Stopped working whilst laid up for yrs - speedo still smoothly rises from off scale to zero with ignition Besotted by all Wheeler era cars and loved his laconic, laid back style. Had the pleasure of a few short chats, Trev too :) Desperately miss the factory and great team that made these beasts possible. Totally agree with your 'custodian' view :)
That's such a beautiful car... And really like your explanations for us non mechanics. I'd love to have one of these but they obviously need a helleva lot of work and maintenance. Would you say it's the best roaster ever made?
They're really not that difficult to look after! The only thing is that it's vital to have someone (either a garage like me, or yourself as an owner) maintain it as you can spot when something's going to cause a problem before it actually happens. They're actually nothing like as expensive to run as most people assume. Best roadster ever made? I don't think I could argue the case for any car as it's such a subjective thing, but the Chimaera's definitely up there for me, along with the Frogeye Sprite and MX-5.
It was part of a range of buyers guides by Veloce called "The Essential Buyer's Guide (and then in my case, TVR Chimaera/Griffith. It has a Griffith on the front)
Message to Bugatti fans: please note that it's pronounced 'Kye-meera', not 'Shy-meera'. Likewise, the Bugatti Chiron (named after the Greek mythological hero) is pronounced 'Kye-ron', not 'Sheer-on'. 'C' in Greek has a hard 'K' sound: charisma; choir; chorus; chemistry; chiropractor; Charon the Ferryman; Chiron the centaur. Kye-ron. 👀 A-a-a-a-a-and relax...🤭
I know what you mean, there is a slightly gammony-element to some corners of the ownership base. You get that with all cars, admittedly, and there are also some lovely, lovely people in the TVR community.
That colour is just magical. I adore these cars.

That is some kind of car. The way you explained it, it makes all the sense in the world. You have some mad skills my man.
Thanks!
Great video. I’ve owned a Chimaera for years and still found this very interesting 👍

Nice!
I’m becoming addicted to your films… really detailed but with lots of humour ❤
Don’t praise him up too much. Next he’ll be telling us he owns an SM or other nonsense. 😆
Thanks!
I always fancied getting a chimaera
Great video Rich, what a lovely looking TVR the Chimeara is. Love the colour of this car. Now away to watch the drive.
Glad you enjoyed it
Looks a credit to your skills, a fine looking rebuild 👍
Had my out riggers done a few years a go I waxoyl mine every 3 years love my chimaera had it for 12 years ❤️
Just make sure the rest of it is OK, as the outriggers are only half the story.
Great channel with the deadpan wit.
Ooh! Have we been so good as to have a double helping of UnD?
I think so!
Brilliant video , Very helpful and witty as I’m just about to look for either a Chimaera or a griff hearts with a grif heads now with a chim
Head always goes Chim, but heart always goes Griff, for me at least.
@@UPnDOWN with you there hence the comment 👍🏼 thanks your posts are brilliant
Great video
Thanks!
There was a similar nice Rover metallic purple colour around that time…..
Yes I remember it
Here's a question, when people restore TVR's do some people galvanize the chassis instead of powder coating them again?

@@UPnDOWN :) I have an NC mx7, burning some oil but otherwise it's brilliant. Getting a compression test done soon.
@@MrSunnyBhoy NC MX7? Haha I can't tell if that's an absurd double typo or it's a joke that went over my head 😂
How do you get in if the battery is flat? Great vid !
There are ways. Secret ways.
Are those zip ties proper TVR ones?
😁
Genuine TVR 'Heritage' parts.
Nice 👍 are you taking jobs on ford fairmont au's to the same standard 🤓👍
Of course!
If TVR needed a salesman!
They'd need a product, first!
What’s your book called?
I’d like to buy it but I can’t find it anywhere

I Googled it the other day and they're still out there, though in much lower numbers than the S-Series version.

@@UPnDOWN it’s a line from the scene you referenced in Scrubs
@@UPnDOWN Is the TVR badge in Union Jack colours the tell tale sign of the gammon segment? 😂 (this Chimaeras one in gold looks great)
