  • Welcome to my brand new off-ice training series called #SkateWithMichelle. The focus of this week is spin technique! Check out my Instagram for the official Skate With Michelle Calendar: / b-iut1opc6e
Today is all about the camel spin technique. I am going to break down the spin from beginning to end so you understand the main steps of the camel spin. Starting the position off the ice will help you achieve a fast and centered spin when you get back on the ice.
The foundation of spins is so important to master before hopping onto a skate spinner. I recommend going through this video before doing spinner exercises. Let me know in the comment section below what your favorite part of today's "Skate With Michelle!" tutorial!
LET'S GET STRONG TO BECOME THE BEST SKATERS WE CAN BE!
Friendly Reminder: Please be careful when following along. If you never attempted certain elements displayed in the video, be sure to consult your figure skating coach before trying it for the first time.
    Skating Love,
    Coach Michelle

Hi! In the future, could you make an off-ice tutorial for the flying camel?

Can you do one that talks about all the other spins you can transition into from this spin that look cool or best preserve momentum? Like layback/attitude, sit, hairsplitter, to back spin?
Also can you also tell me why coaches are so vehemently against spinning both ways? I am learning as an adult age 35 and can spin both ways, and i see it as getting double practice and not having to wait while you are dizzy and also not developing muscle imbalances. It also makes for a more well rounded athlete. The sport is a bit of a dinosaur to encourage one side only. In water polo you practice throwing and catching and shooting with both arms. In swimming you breathe on both sides. In gymnastics, you learn to cartwheel both ways. Switch hitters are envied in baseball.

The name of this spin should be something cooler like swan or dove or spinning bird kick or anything. For a sport where people look for beauty they call it a camel...*shrug**spits like a Camel*
