wow, Thank you for articulating this so well. This video takes a wonderful approach towards speaking on the inevitable inclusion of AI in the software field, while offering a wonderful perspective of how to co-exist with it. TYSM!!!

I think people are misunderstanding something very fundamental when it comes to software development. And it is that all these generative language models respond to natural language prompts. And that is where the big bottle neck is at. I mean, just think about creating an application from the ground up through prompts alone. You could do it but it wouldn't be fast or probably even accurate. And this isn't because "the language model isn't advanced enough yet". A notion I see brought up constantly. It is because there is an actual hard limit and impreciseness baked into natural human language. That is why programming languages exist.
Sure a language model like GPT-4 can give you precise code if you know what to ask it. But could you imagine someone not even familiar with programming to even know where to begin in asking something? Until an AI exists that can surmise/predict the nuances and factors entailed of ideas conveyed through natural language, engineers will always be needed in the implementation process of these ideas. Mainly for the simple fact that it is more efficient to convey these ideas to an embodied person with immediate knowledge of the outside world and can respond to you past bandwidth limitations with the social skills to reach some sort of mutual understanding. Impreciseness and all. And if it comes to a point where we have language models that respond to something other than natural language, then we just looped back around to programming again.
I don't doubt there will be a massive culling of jobs the tech field. But I don't expect it to be mostly because of AI. I expect it because the tech industry in general is already bloated and overvalued with more jobs than its predicted growth. We've already seen it happen with the massive layoffs. So forgive me if I think this video is a little silly. I wouldn't worry too much about getting obsolesced by AI. If you really believe in your product then yes, a good portion of its success does require marketing and having a slick brand image but that has always been the case with any kind of product.
Thanks for the neovim config. It was a good reference for my own setup. I won't be purchasing the note taking app for "productivity vibes" lol.

@@SalonDuSoleil Pretty much. Especially within certain constraints like a budget. Just imagine putting into a prompt, "make me a social media app better than instagram that will make me a billion dollars that will be cheap to implement. please and thank you :)". The heavy lifting here is the word "better". What does that even mean to a language model if anything at all? General intelligence is the end game. Until that happens I am not worried. If it does then I humbly submit to our AI overlords.
Also, people worry about these language models writing better more efficient code than human devs. And sure, that will probably happen but a dev has to be the one to decide where to put it and how it fits into everything else around it given vague notions like "good" or "better". I don't care if CoPilot gives me a perfect implementation of some binary search tree. Not that spooky. I could have probably found one the old fashion way of googling stack overflow which it pretty much used as well as part of its training.
And at the end of the day, end users don't care. Hardware nowadays is so powerful that marginal differences in performance really do go unnoticed. As someone who works intimately with compiler optimizations, you just have to accept the fact that machines will always write better code than you that will take advantage of the bare metal. Heck, a language model optimized a compiler not that long ago. Great.
It will make the most difference in extremely narrow but important fields that actually leverage that extra bit of optimization. Most programming work out there though could care less. I strongly believe that there is plenty of work left to be done on this planet that could better leverage the technology that we have. It is just that the market has deemed such pursuits unprofitable so not worth pursuing.
That is the real tech doomer pill. Not big spoopy daddy OpenAI coming in and taking your job. Hopefully your job is actually for something that will stand the test of time as the well of "tech enthusiasm" runs dry among investors flagrantly still throwing money around hoping something sticks.

This is surely awe inspiring and it is true learning coding is often lonely but what you seem to have achieved looks super human. First learning how to do it and then daring to create, using what have learned (and what you might still be learning), and at the same time facing your own shortcomings, inefficiencies, and ineffectiveness, and ultimately staying resilient and taking it all - emotionally, physically, and functionally to see the fruits of your labor.
    Keep going sir.
    Best wishes.
And I forgot to add the video is really high quality.

As for the branding, interesting take, usually branding is a huge thing for artists, youtubers and other widely known people, but never developers. Very few people will use something cus it was written by a particular dev. But hey, you proved it works.

I’m almost certain that eventually people will move on to be AI developers until they’re not needed. It’s depressing and maybe even scary but I’m not going to go for a different career path even if what I was saying will become true.

The second problem is that with the advent of cameras, artists are no longer in demand in the same sense as before, and with the advent of AI - our applications will become as inaccurate as paintings compared to photographs. They will be artisanal. And the applications are perfect. The third problem is that those who could pay for the applications themselves will be left without income to pay, but now they can still support the outdated code and receive money, but there will be less of it every day.

I am thinking if I should just learn Php as there are still more small-medium companies looking for Php devs for their websites. Is this a good move to fight AI? I know it's moving backwards but Php developers are still the most in demand, right?

I know I can fully agree. Programming is (in a way) a form of artisan ship. You make something like the insides of a mechanical watch, where people don't see the "guts" of that perfectly durable watch but they know it lasts forever. What you create IS purely functional, but the extent to which that functionality performs is dependant on each programmer... Coming up with new functionalities, ways to improve the code, tighting all up into a general grammar style, etc. is ART.

I love your work and I'm amazed by your app and software. But as an individual I stopped my subscription, because Obsidian is still a better experience with more features. I hope in the future you surpass it though!!
As an advise, real time rendering of the MD code in preview view in the text-editor prompt is something you should try to include too I believe!!
Keep up the awesome work and follow your passion!!
