How to grow COWPEAS (time lapse)

We recently harvested a crop of cowpeas, using the purple hull pinkeye variety. These are related to black-eye peas, and are popular in warm climates. We planted them at the beginning of May in North Texas, Zone 8A. Ultimately, our extremely hot and dry summer made it difficult even for these heat-loving plants. But they're still an easy crop to grow that doesn't require great soil. This video takes you from start to finish - about four months.

I plan on growing both cow peas and Seminole pumpkin in the summer good to know I should be careful not to plant them too close together 💚🌱

My grandma gave me some cow peas that are 20 years old and were grown by my great-grandfather, who was an avid gardener. I'm going to be planting them myself this year. Could they still sprout? I'm told that he dried them out and prepared them for planting, but he did so 20 years ago.

Wow, that's amazing! That's very special to you! Yes, they should grow. Cowpea seeds are very resilient. Plant them, and at least some of them should sprout. Make sure the soil is warm enough, or start them under a grow light. Keep a few seeds in case something happens to the first batch. Best wishes!
