Using multi-modal MRI, Caciagli et al. document abnormalities of hippocampal volume, shape and positioning in juvenile myoclonic epilepsy (JME) and unaffected siblings, which relate to reorganization of memory-associated functional activations. These findings represent genetic imaging phenotypes, and imply a neurodevelopmental mechanism with expression during the prenatal stage.
