Kern County Raceway Park SPEARS SRL S2 Tour 06/14/2014

June 14, 2014 - Onboard the SPEARS SRL S2 Tour Series car #0 - 40 laps around Kern County Raceway Park, Bakersfield, California. Record 14-car field. Qualified 4th, started 7th after 10-car invert. After spin, re-started 13th, then worked back up through the field, fighting a slipping clutch, to finish 6th and on the lead lap.

Sorry, just came across this excellent question from a while ago. Mainly stayed low to protect against other cars (that you can't see in the video) from trying to pass. Easier to pass low at Kern than on the high side. When clear behind, I did move up the track some, but not all the way since I had old tires with poor grip as it was, and the higher line is much dirtier - lots of marbles and less grip. Plus there is a bump at the exit of Turn 2 that you can avoid by staying lower. I believe that bump is what caused the 99 car to spin at the beginning in the first place.

Great vid. I have a question... it seems you could've benefited at times from taking a higher line. Now I am a novice so sorry if I'm out of line (so to speak), but what were the considerations that kept you from pursuing a higher line? I ask as a newbie driver. Thank you.
