When I was about 10, my older sister bought this album. I wore it out thinking these were all originals. At about 11, when I heard an original, I was like....., wait! Dino, Desi, and Billy does that song!! How embarrassing.
the six string bass playing the melody on 'Turn, Turn, Turn, was likely the same one Glen Camplell used on "Wichita Lineman" ( which he borrowed fro Carol Kaye.....)
managed by Hollywood tough guy actor and rat pack associate member Mack Grey ( a pal of Frank and Dino's ) Back in 66 when I was in high school I kept up w all the scene through my lil sis' "16 Magazine" which at the time also ran the latest on the Stones, Yardbirds, Animals, Beatles (natch) as well as the lighter fare like DDB..... a piece ran on the boys going clothes shopping at DeVoss on the Sunset strip and they ran a pic of the boys having sundaes and shakes with a dude right out of the godfather.....caption ran:" soda sipper on the right is Mack Grey DDB's world famous manager. " For a while Mack was music director of the Dean Martin show .... he was on the piano when dino would come out halfway w a cig and a drink and cut up doing risque versions of the hits...... On the management contract between Grey and the boys the signatures are Lucy's and "Jeannie's " Dino jr's mom , because the boys were under age ....on the records you hear Jim Gordon on drums, Joe Osborn on bass and Billy Strange on guitar .... the wrecking crew
RIP Billy
