  • Becoming a medical scribe played a huge part in confirming that I wanted to be a physician and getting me into Medical School! It may not be the most glamorous job in the entire world, but the amount you get to learn by working so intimately with physicians and other providers is so valuable. I highly recommend it for anything trying to get their feet wet and see if the Medical Field is right for them!

    I used to recruit Medical Scribes with ProScribe. It’s so good to hear this testimony from you. I felt like as a recruiter I was ripping some people off because of the pay, the commitments, the fees if they quit. It felt like it was a rip off opportunity for my candidates sometimes, but hearing your testimony shows me there really is the value I always heard about from my team. I’m glad you enjoyed the opportunity!

      Hey Daryn! It is nice to hear from a ProScribe recruiter. Honestly, it is a tough system. The pay is a rip-off but worth it to the students who need the clinical experience to get into a program someday. That is what makes the whole thing tough. While I wish I got paid more along the way, I definitely value all the experience I received and know I am more ready to start medical school now than I was before being a scribe!

    I just recently got hired to be a medical scribe for Baylor Scott and White Emergency. I take my final exam in a few days. The studying is crazy overwhelming. I’m super nervous for the training and as I’ve been studying, I continue to feel more anxious. 😭 Wish me luck y’all.

      Oooooo good luck! :D Try not to be too overwhelmed by the studying and medical terminology! A lot of it truly is difficult to remember until you have clinical experience to associate with the terminology which you will get once you are in the ER! Good luck! You got this!! :D

    I’m new to your channel so naturally I had to start at videos from the beginning and I’m currently a scribe! Totally agree with everything, the experience is worth so much that it can be easy to overlook pay (which like you said isn’t much) lol but I work outpatient for a PCP, full time and it can be a great gap year option too!

    this video is old so you may not see this, but I'm a stay at home mom looking to get a job again and I have some experience in the medical field from doing medical transcription 10+ years ago and I took a medical coding/billing course in 2020-2021. I'm thinking of joining Scribe America now. I was wondering how many hours did you work on an average shift and is there opportunity as a scribe to make more money or eventually work your way up to making a decent living? I'm in my 40's and not looking to become a doctor ... I was thinking maybe being a scribe could get my foot into the door for medical coding (even though I know they are two different things). I think being a scribe would be good for me since I already have some medical terminology knowledge from my past experiences. Anyway, thanks so much and good luck on your career path as a doctor!

    So, scribing can be counted as clinical experience.
    I thought scribing does not involve “patient interaction” because you pretty much take notes for the doctors and type them in the charts. You are not allowed to touch or interact with the patients.
    How come scribing is considered clinical experience? It is a tremendous learning experience for sure! I’m just not sure about it being considered “clinical experience” due to limited or not at all “patient interaction.”
    This is why I want to do medical assistant or EMT instead. Do you think med schools would prefer scribing in the ER over EMT? Or the other way around? What are your thoughts on this? Thank you!

    I’ve been watching your videos and find them very useful! I’m a premed student, currently a freshman, and I really want to become a scribe over the summer going into my sophomore year. I’m working on building my resume, I’ve been volunteering at the hospital I want to work at in pre op, and I’m taking a medical terminology class for my major over the summer. I’m just nervous that being only 19 will turn providers away from hiring me! Do you think age really matters in the sense of getting the position?

    • @ShaunAndersen
      @ShaunAndersen  4 роки тому +2

      Hey Julliana! At 19 years old, I cannot imagine you would not be hired as a Medical Scribe. Most third party scribing companies hire as young as 18. You are only being hired directly by the providers if you work in outpatient or directly for the facility you are scribing at; in which case they can determine how old/how much experience they want you to have. However, again, being 18+ will work just fine! You should not run into any trouble :)

    I have a question and not sure if you'll see this. I got emailed a interview for a medical scribe. I was a CNA at downtown hospital. I am not going to medical school. In fact I'm a Veteran and have income every month but just need more medical experience/income for my savings.
    Would it even be worth it for me?

    • @ShaunAndersen
      @ShaunAndersen  4 роки тому +4

      If you are needing an income so you can save up money, I do not think scribing is the way to go (unless you get hired at a higher paying place) since scribes usually get payed pretty low. I believe CNAs and Scribes make a similar amount however so that really will depend on where you get hired and how much they are willing to pay :/ In general though, neither positions make a whole lot. However, this may be different for your situation since you already have some income from your service!
