I'm a fan of the book and the first 2 movies and it's impressive that they managed to adapt as much as they did. The original book is huge in terms of world building and characters and internal dialogue.
@camelopardalis8506 embarrassing mostly, especially because they did try to use more elements from the original book. And I can't prove it, but to me it looks like some of the costumes from Dinosaurs were repurposed for the Rock Biters (and overall, just one of the Jim Henson Co's weaker projects)
@@CinnamonGrrlErin1 I found the scene that shows the Rock Biter child(ren) watching t.v. jarring. And while I hardly remember the visuals, that scene could be one in which Dinosaurs costumes were used.
That was a serious clincher! From the beginning, that sequence just gripped you as the title track strokes your natural inclination towards fantasy (sad I can't say that these days without sounding erotically charged, and sat here for a few seconds thinking how to reword it!).
I absolutely love the neverending story both the book and the movie but yeah it’s kinda crazy to know that they both pretty much have completely different stories where the first half of the book is basically like the movie but with a couple of differences but the book has more complex story about how after bastian saves fantastica and starts using loads of his wishes he starts losing his fragments of his memories one by one until he completely forgets who he is and why he came to fantastica in the first place and with persuasion of the Evil sorceress Xayide bastian starts becoming more and more jaded and dangerous with his power and even distrusts his own friends atreyu and Falkor this all cultivates into a huge war in fantastica with bastian almost killing atreyu and also results in the ivory tower set aflame and destroyed so yeah the book is very different from the original movie but I still really enjoy both of them in their own ways
For this Thanksgiving, I want Scribbles 2 Screen to cover the lost media of the Thanksgiving classic *Planes, Trains & Automobiles* (i.e. the deleted footage that’s been recovered, still has yet to be released (according to production stills, theatrical trailer, shooting script etc.) and the lost three hour cut of the movie (according to the film’s editor Paul Hirsch))! This seems like something right up S2S’s alley!!
2:59 You seem to be referencing the old German blu-ray here. The first HD scan of the German cut had horrible DNR issues hence the lack of film grain on the image. However there was a new 4K restoration of this cut afterward that improved every issue that previous scan had, and has since been released on UHD which looks incredible. Genuinely the best the film has ever looked. The HDR especially makes scenes stunning. The only caveat being it is just the German cut not the Warner Bros cut. So hopefully Warner will release their cut in UHD very soon.
Well now I know there is a superior version of this film out there. That original Doldinger Score is INCREDIBLE! No shade to Giorgio, but after searching up that original Ivory Tower theme... I was in tears!
Many years ago me and my sister were watching the movie on tv, I’m from UK btw so this would have been a UK broadcast but anyway the film played as usual but when it got to the part where Atreyu fights Gmork there were some additional scenes pretty close up gore shots of them fighting and we were both shocked as we had never seen that before, originally the fight is over quickly but ever since then I’ve never been able to see it again or find any information about it and it was never in the German version, I know we never imagined it and it has bugged me ever since
I only knew about the deleted janitor scene, but had no clue about the other scenes. Yes, I knew of the darker version of the Dark Crystal for a while although it’s more of just an alternate version of the movie I think the best way to describe it it is very similar to the loss cut of Star Wars, which is basically the same movie except with different takes of scenes, different dialogue, different voices such as Frank Oz voicing a character in one of the versions of the movie who wasn’t voiced by him in the finalist film, or deleted scenes. that didn’t make it into the movie. by the way, is there any darker kind of Labyrinth that exist? I know that was intentionally meant to be more lighthearted due to the respond to the Dark Crystal, but was there anything cut that was significantly darker than the finalized film? even though it can be pretty dark at points, I’m kind of shocked some people five scarier than their crystal may be because of the goblins and baby being involved but I think that film is significantly scarier especially because there’s very violent scenes in that one
I love the 1st two movies and have tried to listen to the book on Audiable but keep dosing off Earl in it, one to wake up what Atreyu meets Morla. 😅 But, I grew up with this movie on Laser Disc and remember a lot of what you showed as "Deleted Scenes" having been there.
Speaking of the late Wolfgang Petersen, there is another film of his that deserve a "Scribbles to Screen" episode: His 2006 adaptation of Paul Gallico's novel: *"THE POSEIDON ADVENTURE",* simply titled *"POSEIDON".* The final cut runs at just 98 minutes, but originally it had a much longer runtime of 123 minutes, with about 25 minutes of deleted scenes. The first 20 minutes dealt with more character scenes at the beginning before the giant rogue wave struck the ship. But according to IMDB, Wolfgang viewed the shorter cut as his preferred Director's Cut and he had no intention of releasing the longer cut.
Tbh considering how Hollywood is I would not want them to even try to reboot it. All the crummy remakes in the past have just tore apart my childhood loves.

How do you feel about the third film? I find it horrific.

We don't talk about The Neverending Story III, and for good reasons!
We don’t talk about The Neverending Story III no no we don’t talk about The Neverending Story III but it was my wedding day
Fun Fact:
Industrial Light & Magic did uncredited work on the cloud effects in the opening of the International Version.
I didn't know that, until now.

G'mork was the one thing in this movie that stuck in my head. Wish he'd been in it more.
I always wanted a TV show spin-off called "G'mork and Mindy"...
I like the Neverending story. I wish the characters at the beginning with the top hat and snail, etc. got more screentime.

@ScribblestoScreen can you talk about the Blue's Clues pilot from 1995 that was found?
I think that the half of the story where Bastien rules Fantasia would've been better for the sequel
As good of the sequel it would been better great then the third film.
@@nathanblevins158 Not a bad idea

Please work on your sound editing, your voice is SUPER quiet, but the film clips are super loud. I still loved the video though!

When you read the book you totally understand why the author hated the movie.

...It was DARKER????
What about Xayide? I would have liked to see her enslaving Bastian, following her plan

I'd rather see a faithful remake
I read the book as well as saw the movies ( 3rd one doesnt count 🤮) I even vagually remember a cartoon all very good.
Now, does anybody wish their was a film reboot? And this time, it would be faithful to the original book?

@@GarouLady If any studio was to remake the movie, they should split it up into parts like what was done with Dune.
@@haydenbrewer787 It's done wonders for Dune. While the 84 version was good, it deviated in some parts. The ending being one of those deviations.
As long as he wasn't put under the same problems he had with the Hobbit, Peter Jackson could be a potential candidate.🤔
