I could not hold my tears back when I was watching this. I have not been back to HK for 21 years. This video brought back a lot of memories. I miss HK, and I miss my father. Hk is so different now, it's still there though, but not my father.

MIss the old buildings and the open space in the 60s. So much better than the modern skyline. So sad looking at all these old photos -- traces of history ...
So many memories evoked by this excellent video! I knew these scenes between 1972 and 1984. I enjoyed my work there and found the Hong Kong staff very easy. Full of life, optimism, quickness and energy. Always humorous and friendly to me. I miss living in this great city.
Every 5 to 10 years, HK has a lot of changes. Every year I went back to HK, but recently since 2014 Chinese New Year, I stopped travelling and I saw my friend's photo, HK added some nice places which i have not visited. i miss HK. Next year 2017....hopefully can visit HK.

I watched a programme earlier which quoted Frank Welsh's book that says "Britain did not care about Hong Kong" and basically says that Hong Kong was a piece of chess. However, many of us were deeply hurt that the British government didn't try to do what they did for India - paving the way to independence...
Moreover, over million of HK citizens were run to HK after 1949, you may ask these old men and women why would they left their home in China and live in HK. Furthermore, if you see any any mainlander overseas, you may ask them the same questions, "Why you immigrate to there?" Most of them will give you the same answer Don't be naive

Well, we did not voluntarily give you to China, this is cos we had to heed to the 1973 UN resolution which recognised HK as Chinese sovereign territory under British administration but not recognised as British colony by most of the countries. This give the Chinese licence to get HK back and keep it as long as the resolution still in active. That is why Britain had to heed to international law and the UN and had no choice to give it back to China. The resolution also block us taking it back.
@manleongheleng I don't think us British will be back cos our government wants China to be our trading partner and taking back HK would make the Chinese cancel trade treaty with Britain and would lose money HK needed. It will be very hard for the British to take back HK or even HK declare themselves independent cos the Chinese already declared HK as Chinese sovereign territory and promised to defend it. The PLA is there to make sure HK stays Chinese for long time to come.

我的爺爺嬤嬤是出生在1880年代的香港和新加坡，他們對我講英國佬統治的香港和新加坡係非常歧視華人，白人可以做洋行，阿差可以做英軍，而華人就只可以做苦力，倒夜香。
英國人在香港和新加坡的管治，固然有其弊端，但最低限度能讓當地華人安身立命，有飽飯吃，避開了國共內戰、三反五反、大躍進、文革等數之不盡的人禍，而且他們為兩地所構建的社會體系都非常健全，還致力消除貪污，華人根本沒能力做到。還有最後一點，言論自由和資訊流通度（這裡泛指香港），在英治時代也比現在好，各媒體百花齊放，人人都可以想說什麼就說什麼，沒有這麼多政治審查。
說得難聽點，兩地都是英國人發展起來的。沒有英治，就沒有「香港」和「新加坡」這兩個地方，兩地市民今天亦沒有任何可自豪和炫耀的資本，充其量它們只是個漁村或二、三線城市而已。
香港絕大多數人係大陸偷渡過來，非原居民，要香港出生先有英國籍，可以做英軍。
英國對香港好，係1945年二戰後開始，英國國力衰弱，殖民地紛紛脱英，英國殖民地急速減少，物以罕為貴，香港先變得愈來愈珍貴
大陸管治，香港玩完，過多十年，香港滅亡，齊來默哀。
