Excellent video Dave and Barbra. Doing the WHW with a small group of friends wild camping in July (I know the midges will be awful but it’s the only time we can do!) then off to do the Berliner Höhenweg at the end of August. Keep up the great videos 👍
Enjoy the WHW, Just checked out the Berliner Höhenweg - look amazing - let us know how you get on - we might fancy that ourselves - cheers Dave & Barbara
nice informative video. if you wild camp / bothy stays it is completely free. Though if you get bad weather i'd stay in a campsite as there are drying facilities and a room to cook
Yes you are right John - We normally carry our bags but we are getting a bit old to carry tents and this is the reason we had our bags carried between hotels and campsites. If you doing wild camping you obviously need to carry your own kit. Happy hiking John. The WHW is a great walk - but better with good weather - Cheers Dave & Barbara
I wild camped it all. A great adventure. True about it taking ages to walk by Loch Lomond. I'd seriously consider wild camping by it at least that one night as i'm not sure there's a campsite near it but it's easy to find a quiet spot. My favourite camp on the whole trip.
@@hikingwithdaveandbarbara8629 that sounds like a great one. i'm toying with the Pennine Way but might be too much in one go. Before that though Berwickshire Coastal Path. A mere 30 miles but a solid 2 days nonetheless.
Hi Martin - Good luck on the Berwickshire Coastal Path. We are going to check it out. 30 miles is a decent hike over a couple of days. As we know coastal walks are not flat and not easy - Cheers Dave & Barbara
@@hikingwithdaveandbarbara8629 I did it last week and I would highly recommend it. Paths were good. The hardest sections for undulation were at St Abbs and Burnmouth but otherwise I don't think too hard if you've done the WHW
I don't think the trail should be signposted. When walking in unfamiliar countryside with mountains, rivers, hills, etc, one should definitely be able to read a map and use a compass. As for making it a national trail , I would say don't. This is Wainwrights trail and he did say in his books that you should make up your own trail. This is a very popular path and I would just like to say that I'm glad you enjoyed it. My partner and I did the whole trail backpacking it in 14 days, camping all the way and it was fantastic.
Thanks for the thoughts. Maybe you are right. I did see that the trail is going to be made into a national path which means they will probably have to build a bridge over the A19. That has to be a good thing. I think we give the the C2C another go in the next year or so. Cheers Dave & Barbara
I enjoyed your videos on the Cotswold Way and was excited to find this one. How does the difficulty of the West Highland Way compare to the Cotswold Way?
Sorry for the slow reply Clint. This is a tough one as the Cotwolds way is longer and there are some quite big distances involved. I would say the WHW is a great walk but only great if the weather is ok ? We actually met a couple from Canada who were dissapointed with the WHW because there was not many small villages to walk through. I would say mt favorite UK hikes that we have done are 1. Coast to Coast 2. Pennine Way 3. WHW 4. Cotswold Way 5. Dales Way 6. St Cuthberts Way They are all good Sorry cant be more help - much depends on what type of walk you like.😀 Cheers Dave & Barbara
