Well, if you think about it, they never left. If you look closely, when you dogeroll with the dualie Squelchers, they connect and form the dual squelcher.
i gotta be honest I'm more of a Splatoon 2/3 guy but shooters feel so more fun to play in this game despite being a lot slower. it feels like this game rewards shooter players more for good positioning and landing shots but in s2 became more of a fast movement class overtime.
They already did bring it back. Twice. Granted, the second reincarnation (Nova) got heavily and unjustifiably nerfed, but it's there. Nintendo overnerfing things is nothing new, look at Dynamo and H3

I have an irrational hate for Dualie Squelchers for replacing one of the only shooters I liked :/
I played both OG and new Squelchers, definitely prefer Dualie version, but I get you

best 4 shot in the series, easily. echolocator and splat bombs. this thing was unstoppable
