Not true. I had FilMiC pro with all the add-ons on my iPhone 13 Pro Max and I received a message over the app that left me no option but to accept the new license. Instead I removed everything and switched to MoviePro.
I have the same problem. I was using this app since 2019 including its Cinematographer Kit on my Android phone and it was a one time payment and I was happy but recently I switch to iOS and the pricing shocked me 💥 I wasn't using this app for professional stuff, just for fun but now this app is only accessible for some sort of rich professionals who haven’t got any DSLR cameras. Have no idea where the FiLMiC company is heading.
Like others who have commented I’m the ‘owner’ of FilmicPro and all of the various add-ons. I wouldn’t move to the subscription model as I tend to use my Sony cameras for most of my video work. The only thing I would miss from FilmicPro is the clean-hdmi output as I tend to use my iPhones as video cameras into my video switcher. Are you aware of any other camera apps which provide a clean-hdmi output?
It's a good thing Samsung gives us pro photo and video built in to the stock camera app. It's about time more manufacturers include this with the stock camera app and give users the option of looking for a third party app or not. Filmic done lost their minds. lol

Protake. Yearly subscription but affordable. Different cinematic "looks" and anamorphic compensation. 8 bit, 10 bit, and Dolby Vision. Pro mode. And free to try with some of the "looks".
Exactly protake all day every day and you can shoot in looks and it basically does the exact same thing as filmic pro and I bet now they are really going to go hard selling their app
I used to get good results with Filmic Pro but it stopped working and kept crashing on my Galaxy 21+, as mainstream a device as you can get. I worked with support and sent them the crash logs they asked for. Never heard back. It wasn't worth the trouble to hassle them for a resolution.

If you are on Android .. Motioncam and Mcpro24fps are great alternative. Motioncam allows you to shoot 10 bit Cinema DNG while mcpro24fps is just like filmic pro. but better
What's also messed up is that they haven't even bothered to address the 10-bit over-saturation recording on newer Android phones. We're still being forced to use 8-bit..
I bought Filmic Pro, and I like to use it. I paid for additional features. I'd pay a reasonable yearly subscription, but I’ll be looking for a new option at this price point.

Are they not breaking the law by advertising filmic pro as a one time purchase and all the add ons to then change their mind and tell you you have to pay again for it. basically they lied then. Definitely will have a look at those other apps you mentioned. No way would i pay £2.99 a week for an app £155 a year. Somehow i think they need to sit down and rethink their pricing before they lose a lot of customers.

I was close to paying for the app a couple of months ago since I had just bought the Smooth 5 gimbal ( the app was about $20 if I recall well), but stalled and delayed. And they had RECENTLY enhanced the app to work with this gimbal, to ditch the native app. This announcement would have meant that I’d had flushed my $20 down the toilet in less than 2 months. I’m glad I didn’t! What a rip-off
On Facebook, Filmic Pro said it was a mistake and we who purchased it could still use it as we always did. Problem is I keep getting the "agree to a subscription" landing page and can't access my app...
That's the one tham I'm using and it works great. Plus, the developer is responsive and has made several changes that I requested. This is something you rarely see in iPhone apps.

They haven't implemented the weekly subscription in all countries Yet. They say they are testing this new payment plan in some countries ; I guess to test it and see how it goes.

The $50 a year would be worth it to have integrated control for my gimbal and have a powerful film app. No one knows how much longer Freefly will keep the Movi app going since the Freefly Movi smartphone gimbal was canceled in 2021. If I didn’t have the Movi gimbal it would be NO for me.

You'll never catch me paying over $100/year for a video capture app, even one that until now I've used all the time. Someone should explain the substitution principle to the folks over at Filmic Pro. That was a nice F you to open my app to yesterday. 0/10 already switched.
To even consider a "rental/usage" fee is arrogant and greedy beyond measure. Basically they're business model is to parasitize upon the creativity of others. If you think about it subscription services are not a good value proposition for most. Of course it depends on the product. Often the product sits unused for a majority of the time (unless it has a primary function) such as for a professional. Secondly it creates an unstable foundation for a field/craft to evolve by utilizing the product. It's a form of extortion and I would claim that it should fall into the realm of Antitrust. I dabbled in smartphone video and I thought it was a nice application to have. But it would make no sense for me to keep using the app if it will be a constant financial drain. Like you mention smartphone videography is not a staple for premium content. If they want to bottleneck this field so be it. I look forward to someone creating an open source software or a kickstarter for an app which does what Filmic does. The only justification for any kind of periodic cost for a consumer is to add features and compatibility with newer products. And for the most part a piece of software like this is fairly static.

If you do comercial work and get payed then yeah, $2.99 is not much, but if you're just a hobbyist then the $2.99 becomes $150/year that you just can't afford, you better use another alternative, even the default app that comes with the phone is better alternative.

I deleted Filmic Pro after it upgraded and required ongoing fees and have installed Filmic Legacy, essentially the old version without ongoing charges

I’ve checked the Apple App Store and the Android version it. Neither store mentioned a subscription. Where did you hear this information?
Filmic Pro still works as it did on both my Apple and Android devices. Are you suggesting in the future this is going to change?

@@Dimidth_Petkovski I needed to do an update on my Android device to download the latest Filmic Pro version. I didn't see any mention of a subscription whilst doing this and the app run as it did before
this only applies to people that want to get filmic pro know. If you have bought it before, you are good to go
They mask the cost, to bait you. Once you download and run the app, they put a screen of free trial or pay.

To even consider a "rental/usage" fee is arrogant and greedy beyond measure. Basically they're business model is to parasitize upon the creativity of others.
If you think about it subscription services are not a good value proposition for most. Of course it depends on the product. Often the product sits unused for a majority of the time (unless it has a primary function) such as for a professional.
Secondly it creates an unstable foundation for a field/craft to evolve by utilizing the product. It's a form of extortion and I would claim that it should fall into the realm of Antitrust.
I dabbled in smartphone video and I thought it was a nice application to have. But it would make no sense for me to keep using the app if it will be a constant financial drain.
Like you mention smartphone videography is not a staple for premium content. If they want to bottleneck this field so be it.
I look forward to someone creating an open source software or a kickstarter for an app which does what Filmic does.
The only justification for any kind of periodic cost for a consumer is to add features and compatibility with newer products. And for the most part a piece of software like this is fairly static.

I think the people from Filmic Pro they are going to regret it, because if we have paid one time for an App, we should not pay again. No matter the price, is the attitude.
And also, if you pay once, and then you have to pay again every year, well, that’s a ripoff, of course, because you don’t get to own for what you are paying, because as soon you stop paying, the App won’t be yours.

If you do comercial work and get payed then yeah, $2.99 is not much, but if you're just a hobbyist then the $2.99 becomes $150/year that you just can't afford, you better use another alternative, even the default app that comes with the phone is better alternative.
